1:43 'fingerprint system'.. this got de-railed in Australia when an employee got fired for refusing to use it; he then sued his former employer and won; he had to be re-employed and was paid compensation and now every business in Australia has to offer a card swipe option for existing employees, unless using a biometric attendance system is a condition of employment for new employees.

Another great vid mr Ashville, one thing I would say as an hgv driver myself for 11 years, if you introduced a profit share incentive into the pay of an employee after 3 months probation that gives the staff a huge incentive, they’ll take more pride in the job and responsibility, so a certain percentage of quarterly profits for example, maybe 2% gets split between everyone including office staff, just an idea mate.

As a business owner, doing everything i can to succeed and perservering. Its inspiring and reassuring to see another person grinding too. Keep moving daniel 💪🏽

20:30 I feel your pain. My business bank JP Morgan Chase, pulled something similar and we went in circles for 2 weeks. Thankfully, through a contact, I got a referral to a local bank where I now have the cell phone number of the branch manager, who is handling our account. He had his head teller fill in all the forms for us and even came by our office to collect the signatures. Always go with a local bank!

On recruiting staff. While I agree additional befits are a selling point to a degree. Ultimately that does put food on the table in the immediate short term. I would suggest drivers, pay an average basic, then for each load they do pay a premium/bonus. At the end of each month if they've gone the whole month without getting complaints about their driving, or damaged the truck a further bonus paid. If a driver will make an extra few quid for an extra load, and maybe some overtime on top, they are much less likely to have that ‘flat tire’ or hide in a lay-by near the end of the day. Having a nice clean modern fleet, I would think is going to be equally important. Having worked in a fairly diverse range of industries over the years I’ve always found more money brings more enthusiasm. But, it has to be target driven (bit like being on price back in the day vs day work) and not a given, which leads to complacency and laziness.

I know that you're looking at increasing the capacity of some of your trucks, have you considered towing trailers behind your rigids. For big concrete jobs have you looked at articulated mixer trailers or at an articulated trailer based mobile batching plant.

attracting people to this very stressfull and challenging industry is very difficult, muddy & wet in the winter, dusty in the summer, everyone you meet tells you your doing it wrong, add in the hours you are expected to work and you end up with a ever decreasing pool of dedicated people that all your compition try to headhunt. we are all in this struggle together!

Look after your loyal ones who have time served and proved themselves, and for the potential new staff give them time served incentives that way if they’re SERIOUS they will graft and prove they are worthy of an incentive . In other news tho, when you get a train back in we need a proper montage, even a lh60 birds eye view of the unload 👊🏼👍🏼

Daniel, retention of staff is the key you are looking for. Firstly it costs more to recruit new staff and staff turnover is a sign of a low morale workforce. If you invest in the staff you have and create a positive and vibrant work environment getting new staff will be easy. Word will get around about what a great place Ashville is to work that you will have to start a waiting list of people who want to work with you.

on the Merch front, can you sell it through amazon? use one of their fulfilment centres, they do all the shipping etc and sort out any issues.

Things go badly wrong in fullfillmentcenters, I orderd an radiator for my MKIV VW Golf and got a window regulator for a Mercedes Viano.... And to add insult to injury, the package had all kinds of Mercedes-Benz logos on it....

Working with the great tezza and Daniel would be a dream come true for me unfortunately I live in West Wales and that one hell of a trip to work each day lol
