After working in banking 4 plus years...I can tell you that its standard bank procedures for a high dollar business account. I don't think you were profile for being black, however the customer service you received or lack there of was because you were not an acct holder with their bank. Most banks tend to turn their nose up to anyone who do not bank with them... they won't go the extra mile, they will provide the very bare minimum customer service possible, and they we be quick to deliver road blocks instead of a solution. What should have have happened at the point they could not reach Georgio, he should have explain what was going on and given you an OPTION. He should have sounded like this. "Mr. Cx, I was attempting to cash your check but our system indicated that the check was out of sequential order. For security purpose we would need to verify the validity of this check. If you would like you can take it to your bank to see if it can be cashed or you can wait a few moments and once the acct mgr for this company is through I'll see if she can get in touch with Georgio or give me the authorization to cash it" Sorry to say chick-fil-a is the only business going over and beyond in the customer service dept these days

My issue is that they started speaking in Spanish. How is that professional? Speaking Spanish over a customer who is not Hispanic is unprofessional and appears that they were talking about you. Asian people do that in the nail shop all the time. Stop giving people your money. Go straight to the bank manager. No answer go to head quarters. I’m so tired of people thinking they can walk over black people due to their negative stereotypes. I wouldn’t say profiled. I would say if you were of another ethic background he wouldn’t have done it though.

This happened to me at a leasing office the other day. Some Hispanic people are very rascist towards Black people. You ain't lying & im sooo glad you spoke on this

Here's a story. Back in 2016 Me and my dad went to a dealership because my dad was purchasing a 2016 Durango. He brought with him 28,000 check to put down as a down payment. When we came into the dealer, NOBODY greeted us. We was there for 10 minutes and nobody still said nothing so my dad ask this Caucasian Lady can she help us. Right off the back she was very dismissing towards my dad. My dad asked her her wanted the new Durango. She had the nerve to ask my dad " Well let's start in the used lot first" as if my dad can't afford a new car. The southern gentleman he is he laughed and said" No I already know what I want take me to the Durango, thank you". She then asked " Are you sure"? My dad smiled and told her yes. At this point I'm getting bothered by her. My dad picks out the Durango he wants. So we sit down and goes over the paperwork and when it came time to put down the payment, he gave her the 28,000 check. When I tell you her eyes go big. Her expression was like Wendy Williams when she passed out. She started asking my dad all this question like" What he do for a living" and other unnecessary questions. Before I knew it she runs to the back and a bunch a male employees came with her. They talking about how" nobody has never done this" and" they can't believe this". They bluntly told my dad they need to make sure his check is real. That was the last draw for me because I wanted to respect my dad and not curse them out. I told my dad we going somewhere else! You not finna give this people your money! I was so appalled!

We are in a banking environment where the Account Holder is the customer and not the presenter of the check. I find it crazy that some banks including mine, has charged my gardener $7.00 each time he has cashed the $165.00 check I write to him monthly. I called my bank and cursed them out and made them give me 17 months worth of $7.00 charged to give back to my gardener. B of A aint shit.

Being in the customer service profession that was very poor customer service. It was NOT their business nor concern what the check was for or WHY you chose to do your transaction at their bank branch.

Hey Dineva. I work in the industry and I can already tell you he never should have asked you any personal questions. No teller has the right to ask you any personal questions about your money your trying to get. As long as you had your ID to show that your check written to you than you should have been ok. Now he was right about verification but the teller handled the situation all wrong. If your check was drawn off of their bank than what was the problem?? I dont understand why he carrying on like that. Now I have never heard about the whole check seq. It shouldn't matter about the seq # of the check. First of all that teller was doing way to much. I'm so sorry u had to go thru that. The whole purpose of going to their bank was to get it cashed because like you said your own bank would have held the funds until they verified it. Wow!! Smh!! It happen to me. I got school check for 6000. The first teller stepped away and come back with another teller. They started asking my why I have a 6000 check from my school. I politely told them it was none of their business. Plus I'm at my own bank, so deposit my check so I can go. Little bish took the check and placed a hold on it until it cleared. Even with the Government logo, my ID and being a member I was still profiled. I guess the only checks black suppose to cash is a welfare checks.

No it is not bank procedure to ask what a check was issued for but it is the teller’s responsibility to inspect every aspect of the check presented. However, at no time should you have been treated like a criminal and I will go as far to say that you never should have known that the check was out of sequence. This was very poor customer service on the tellers part and is a manager’s nightmare. As a manager I am glad you took the approach that you did and I hope that manger uses this as training for the entire teller staff because it seems that no one stepped in when things were going wrong.

Q, you are absolutely spot on in this video!! I have been in banking since 2011, with ALL of my experience being on the teller side. He absolutely profiled you & at the same time was trying to do his job. And the fact that you did not have an account coupled with the check being out of sequence does call for extra verification. HOWEVER someone needs to retrain him on how to be customer service because he said and did some things that were out of line. Speaking in Spanish when there was no language barrier with the customer is a NO NO. Its rude and unprofessional. Him going back and forth about taking it to your bank when he obviously knew the account holders was a hot ass mess. Especially with the Relationship Manager sitting right there. I agree that asking you what the check was for is none of our business; that is discretionary and we must have valid super red flags to ask that. I don't think he had any here. Him mentioning the sequence number issue is not a privacy issue as it is not considered sensitive information on an account. The balance, account signers, signature images are better examples of more sensitive information. I applaud you for how you handled it. On behalf of the banking industry I would personally like to apologize to you for that experience! Much Love.

My story I just went to the nail shop 2 weeks ago to get my toes done and I waited 15 min before they put me in the Luke warm water but as I was waiting a woman not of my decent walked in and was like how long is the wait .( I’m blk) the Chinese woman tells her not long but every tech had someone in their chair.im in my now cold water watching Netflix when I see the lady that walked in after me getting ready to get her nails done by a tech that just got done doing some else’s pedi.neither us had an appointment hense “how long is the wait”. When the Chinese guy saw me take my feet out the water he started talking to the manager and she then spoke to me in English “ u wait 10 more min hunny” I acted like I didn’t hear her because I had my headphones on” I pulled a tissue out my pocket dried the water and put my sandals back on she then said it again I said no it’s ok I have to go.i was going to see blk panther for the 3rd time with a friend and I told her I didn’t see why they thought that was ok I told her I wanted to go off in there and tell her no she should have been the one to wait 10 more min not me but I told her I couldn’t bring myself to do it but she told me I should have.

Bank employee: If you are not an account holder or frequent non-account holder, we are instructed to ask the purpose of the check. It’s about how the teller delivers asking the question. The teller was right (at least at my bank), when it’s a large amount, we are advised to call and verify and especially take extra steps with someone who doesn’t have an account. So when they call to verify, we will ask the maker the purpose of the check, if their answer is different from yours, you’re just making it harder. No $1500 is not a large amount, but in check form, the protocol changes; unless it’s a certified check or money issued by the bank, we have to take extra steps. Usually, we’re not asking to be nosey, we ask because it’s our job to protect ourselves, the bank, and account holder. Banks receive a lot of counterfeit, many from non-account holders. As far as how you were treated, no excuse. He should have simply explained to you politely the steps he was going to have to take to go forward with the transaction. No you shouldn’t have known about the check sequence being out of order by that much but I think it was still poor customer service and possibly stereotyping.

The approach you took was superb, because about a 100 people done already fucked it up for us because of the unnecessary yang, yang, yang they exhibit when shit don't go their way. As a former bank teller, he was following protocol. He likely asked why you received the check to determine if it was in line with the nature of the remitter’s business. Tellers are trained to protect the bank and its clients, which at times does leave non-customers feeling as if they have committed a crime. That being said, if his customer service skills were on par, this transaction would have gone a different way. He should have been friendlier, reassured you that he was going to do what he could to assist you and went to Renee up front to determine if the check was issued legitimately.

You keep saying you understand but you really don't understand. I think we get agitated over the wrong thing. If the check was way out of sequence, I can see why they would want to speak to the customer to make sure the check was not written fraudulently. It was to protect their customer like you would want someone to do for you if someone came into a bank and tried to cash a check you may or may not have written. It looked suspicious. Wouldn't you want your bank to check with you before giving someone $1,500 of your money if the check seemed out of place. Usually when people are doing these things, they go to the bank that the check was written on instead of their own bank so that they can get the money now and it is not traced to your bank account.

Asking what the check was for.. was the biggest indication that it was profiling... thats like a pharmacist asking how you get syphilis when you pick up yo shii

Based on your explanation, I don't think he profiled you based on race. Also when I went to Auburn University and got my degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Human Resources they didn't teach me shit about banking either so I can't speak on what was correct banking protocol. However, I definitely want to commend you for keeping yourself collected during that situation and talking with the bank manager about it. I definitely agree with your point on how the young man was wrong for being dismissive. Had you "just gone to your bank" like he wanted you to instead of placing that call to Lorena to clarify some things then at the end of the day he would've felt validated in how he handled that situation. He was outta line (teller). That service was below par. There's no excuse for any bad behavior. That teller does not realize that you could have been a potential future accountholder, that they could lose the real estate account, and bad publicity will kill future businesses.

First all I love your videos and this is my first time commenting. But I got the answers 🙋🏾Having experience from being a teller at different banks (different companies both in the hood and affluent areas) I can tell you that he was not profiling. As a teller you are held personally responsible for everything that goes in and out and if he had cashed the 1500 and it just so happened it was fraudulent, he could have been immediately terminated. The first red flag is that is was out of sequence. Also maybe the authorizing signature was a little off so he made the phone call. Third they asked you what the check was for to make sure it made sense for you to have it (but u told them it was for babysitting or watever 🤦🏾‍♀️ which doesn't make sense for a real estate account). Also when you deposit a check into your own bank it goes into clearing house where it can further be investigated and it will not be a loss on the bank it's drawn on (if it is a bad check). Fourth when ms Renae said she is "familiar" with the check she is taking all responsibility so Hispanic male fish no longer gave a fuck and his demeanor changed. They can't explain all of that. Unfortunately it's people that scam for a living and get away with cashing smaller checks here and there. Their customers are considered the actual account holders. Once a non account holder walks away with money it's gone. He didn't have to be snobby tho. Hopes this ease ur frustration.

Well you handled the situation better than me. After dealing with the teller 2 minutes I would have been talking to the bank manager. You were judged as soon as walked through the door. Yes you were profiled. And it's no one business why you got paid.

Well if you don’t have an account there, and if the check was written on and not printed on they will question what the check is for and will call whoever account is to ask them questions about your identity and what was the check is written for especially if it’s over a certain amount. It’s not really discrimination it’s typical but they should have informed more. I work in Real Estate as well, I gave an agent check who was out of order because I have a few check voided so it threw off our check orders so the anger ran into the same issue. Also remember the bank tellers thinks it their money in all those accounts

The one thing I have noticed about today’s work force, the personality test that is required during the application process is completely flawed. It’s seems to give the “ok” to people that have no business being in customer service. I come from a time where customer service was everything. People now-a-days don’t care, they really have the mindset of “you don’t like it, don’t come back” and the managers have the same concept. Also that is Americas way of thinking as well. People don’t care about being nice, they want your money they could careless about how you feel. It’s sad that the teller treated you the way he did, but going that extra mile was not an option it seems. Regardless what the system said, all that could have been handle differently. Also that falls under training, proper training at that. What’s even more surprising, he missed a selling opportunity. He could have flipped that whole situation and turned that into a sale (I know sis you wasn’t using it regardless) but I guess they don’t do that anymore. Now you know to stay away from that place.

Where is your proof that you were racially profiled? Maybe the teller was out of line for asking you what the check was for & sounds like he didn’t exercise the best customer service. However there is nothing in your explanation that proves the teller would have treated anyone of a different race differently. Could be bank protocol for all you know.

From where I'm sitting it doesn't sound racist to me. It does sound a little like he needs some customer service training but i don't think it was profiling sis. Just some etiquette he needs to learn in regards to bank protocol and customer service.

I work for a bank and we do have to follow some of the same protocols you mentioned the teller did, if you’re a non-account holder, the check must be verified on a website and if the check on the website doesn’t match with the one on tellers hand, we must contact the account holder. So he I agree with you, he was doing his job, I’ve done this plenty of times and customers always look at me like if I’m doubting therefore I always try to make it clear in a professional manner that he (the customer) isn’t the problem it’s the check or the the acct holder isn’t answer or whatever the issue may be. No we do not ask what the check was made for that’s none of our business at our bank. Neither did he have to talk to you in that way. I’ve had blacks, Latinos and whites with the same issue and I think everyone just feels some Sort of way while we’re verifying the checks (I hate that part of cashing those kinds of checks) So don’t feel like You were being discriminated against or anything it’s just steps we must take and there’s really nothing we can do on the other side, if we don’t follow those steps we on the other side get in trouble as well. I'm glad Rosalyn Brooks chimed in with her experience in banking. My daughter and I and her friend were discussing this and we all felt there were definite break downs in customer service, most obvious asking what the check is for. However, my daughter thinks the problem stems from the cashing of the check which to her indicates there is a possibility of fraud when requesting cash as opposed to depositing. Ms. Brooks said it was not unusual to call the company that issued the check when the customer does not have an account at that particular bank. We all agreed that we would rather deposit the check because who needs to walk around with large amounts of cash? On the other hand, our friend said that sometimes if you are given a check by someone you don't know or haven't dealt with before, you might want to get the cash quick to make sure it clears. I cannot say for sure that you were racially profiled but I would not be surprised. In your situation Latinos are the majority and it always the majority who profile what thy consider the minority. For sure you received unsatisfactory customer service.

I've cashed checks before never and I mean never have I been asked what the check was for. I would have said sexual gratification. Go with your gut. He thought you were trying it. You were right.

I feel like what you experienced wasn’t racism in the way way people like to see racism. People like to see racism as a measure of personal vendetta. When the real racism is the fact that there might have never been a “ignorant nigga” that went and fucked it up for you. And there doesn’t have to be one after you. A lot of times Black people aren’t afforded the same level of customer service as other simply because people don’t count us as worthy to receive it. So tbh every other Black person who is unfamiliar can walk into that bank with out yet proving themselves to be a worthy of good service and be treated as a potential “ignorant nigga”. That’s what real racism is. The constant need to prove that you’re not ignorant, or a theft, or unworthy just to get what white people often get by default
