4:00 Funny thing about this room is that, me and my brother played Vermintide the entier time together (not so much when vermintide 2 came around, just me) and he ONLY played as Kerilian, and i ONLY played as Bardin. So roughly the 5th or 8th time we came around to this part, my brother saw something funny, and told me to look "by the tree" and here i was only seeing GOLD and was confused as hell and asked "what tree? what are you talking about? theres no tree around here" and he got confused aswell and asked if i seriously could not see the very obvious tree, i said "no, all i see is gold, idk what tree you are talking about" to which he was Very confused and questioned what i meant about only seeing Gold, he could'nt see any gold, and then we came to the conclusion that, eventho we have done that mission time and time again, we never realized that it changed depending on who you play as, so everyone sees different things.

Hearing Stormvermin call other rats "useless" and going "up to me then-then" when you kill them is some crazy detail that doesn't seem to exist in the second game. It's a shame. It seems like the second game is overall weaker on dialogue and callouts when compared to the first.

Sadly there was a bug introduced late during Vermintide1's lifespan that removed a portion of these Stormvermin lines, so it's possible the same bug carried over to Vermintide 2 Not only were the Stormvermin affected, but also a bunch of *wicked* clanrat lines disappeared from Vermintide1 some time after the generic warning sound for backstabs was added. Edit: I'm gonna make a skaven voice lines compilation eventually using footage from the time when the clanrat lines were still in the game. "Eat your hands and face, elf-thing!"

@@Lumeuu I also miss how some of the Skaven get scared and press themselves against walls because they don't have the courage to attack the heroes. One could say its a less arcady version of VT2.

good vid. To summarize, Bardin is seeking the lost hold of Karak Zorn, an old (edit: the OLDEST and FIRST) Dwarfen stronghold somewhere in Araby, to the far south of both the Empire and the Badlands. The others surmise (correctly) that Bardin isn't only seeking this hold for his own personal glory - he has some dark secret that has made him outcast from the other Dawi. Spoilers for Vermintide 2 below In the Return to Drachenfels FLC, it was revealed that Bardin is outcast from the Dawi because he failed to prevent a Skaven attack on his home. This cost the lives of at least a few hundred Dawi, including Bardin's own son. Bardin is therefore questing for Karak Zorn to avoid taking the Drengi Oath and becoming a doom-seeking Slayer, though if the Vermintide 2 career is to be believed, that is his ultimate fate.

One quibble: VT2 doesn't present the career choices as a progression. They unlock due to level for gameplay, but aren't a history for each character. Perhaps Bardin becomes a Slayer. Perhaps Bardin decides to seek redemption in service as an Ironbreaker. Perhaps he continues his personal quest as a more skilled Ranger Veteran. Victor might advance as a Templar, might become a mercenary holy Bounty Hunter, might go kinda mad and become a Zealot. And so on.

Damn. I remember when Bardin criticized Kruber in the hold. "Do better! Slack watch gets folk killed!" Hits a little harder now, doesn't it, knowing what actually happened... Actually, that brings up some interesting thoughts I'd had. Following that train of thought: If Saltzpyre had already figured out(presumably as well as Kerillian, given her constant taunts as seen here, and some of her hold dialogue in VT2)that Bardin is avoiding his hold(and given Saltzpyre's nature and also Dwarven culture, he would likely correctly assume it was not for good reasons), it's very interesting that Saltzpyre begins to treat him with much more deference in VT2 as opposed to VT1. He likely figured out more details about why Bardin is supposedly searching for Karak Zorn, as it's a witch hunter's job to know as much as he can about both the people around him and what is going on in general. Assuming this line of thinking is true, it makes some sense as it lines up with his change in attitude toward the dwarf: A. Saltzpyre probably doubts the veracity of the Dwarf's search for the missing hold, but figures that if there's a chance succeeding in such a search might earn him some level of redemption(among the potential for strengthening the Empire's allies when it's direly needed), it's worth assisting him, and B. His pity for what he assumes is the dwarf avoiding the presumed shame of his presumed actions alongside the usefulness of having a skillful dwarf along for the ride in defending Ubersreik and further anti-Chaos operations in VT2 made Saltzpyre try to make the Dwarf feel as home as possible among the Five.

Fun fact: Vermintide 2 has been out and in one of the DLC's, answers the question of why Bardin is seeking it. Spoiler: Constance Drachenfels' voice whispers to Bardin. He messed up on a patrol; his son was killed as were many other dwarves when he failed. As a result, he is an exile; his quest is considered a fitting death sentence. Hence why he can become a Slayer.

@felixsylvester4266
@felixsylvester4266 Год назад
I wouldn't go so far and compare it to Marvel movies, but I somewhat agree. The situations in 2 get treated a lot less seriously, it's not like they don't acknolwedge that things are dire, but that they never really doubt that they will come out on top at the end. I guess it makes some thematical sense, after all the U5 now know that they are a great team that is able to succeed against very bad odds, but maybe they overdid it a little bit with the playfullness. Kerillian and Saltzpyre being cocky and confident is appropriate, but maybe Kruber and Bardin should have some moments of being the "straight man" were they acknowledge that things might get really bad, even with all they are doing.

to me since the end times was already handled badly in so many ways, and the first vermintide being like the only decent and actually smart story telling part of the end times lore we see that's okay. vermintide 2 was sorta meant to be played rather than worrying as much about the story, which i can't blame them. im okay with the slightly lighter tone and mild comedy because it makes the game more fun to play and look at for me. i love grim-darkness but i like it with a healthy amount of comedy too. that's why my favorite 40k faction is the orcs. evil and grimdark, but everything about them is fucking hilarious and stupid and i love that in a setting like 40k that takes itself to seriously most of the time. im okay with vermintide 2 focusing less on the story and more on the gameplay because endtimes lore in general is already so bad that i don't care. i'll always like vermintide 1 for the better darker story deeper characters but vermintide 2 is where the fun is at.

Probably because they had to establish the characters which grants a lot of opportunity for banter and exposition. And character development, too! They actually grow closer to each other over the first game. In V2, they already know each other quite well, so there's less reason for introductory dialogue or character growth, sadly. There's a reason people were clamoring for night versions of the maps in VT2. Fatshark's just got a pretty clumsy design philosophy in general. I remember when the second game released, and it took them a couple months to even get the power system working properly because of the way they handle version control constantly undoing progress. It's always one step forward, one step back, and one step to the side with this company - until all that's really occurred after a few years of development is them puttering about and quietly moving the team to the next big thing management wants to make. I feel bad for the writers and designers for these games because there's a lot of heart, but whoever's in charge continues to screw them over.

@@mrgabest Why would you even say that? Fans of an IP _always_ want to explore new places in that IP. You simply aren't very imaginative if you can't imagine a fun Vermintide 3: Araby... * Prologue opens with some poor Araby sap unleashing the Tomb Kings from an ancient crypt. * The central "Ubersreik" of the game is Ka-Sabar, a town held by Araby men which is being "reclaimed" by the Tomb Kings. * The Heroes: Bardin (hold-seeking), Kruber (possibly as a friend, possibly as a Grail Knight pledged to him), Kerillian (driven by dreams to reunite with her southern kin near Oreon's camp), a Mystic (female Araby citizen of Ka-Sabar and wielder of powerful magic), and a Lizardman (joining for inscrutable reasons and always muttering something about a Plan). * The Enemies: skeletons are basic chaff, Nehekhara Warriors are the still-basically-chaff, Tomb Guards are Stormvermin-equivalents, Ushabti/Sepulchral Stalkers/Tomb Scorp are the new monsters, a few Tomb Princes are minibosses, and a Liche Priest is the end boss. * Skaven can show up too, since they're basically everywhere. * Chaos? Harder to see that, but write in a chaos portal where they're racing for some object of power and you can technically rationalize it. * Orks? Yes post-release. They'd add a spider and goblin-heavy Ork roster (basically the forces of Grom the Paunch). * The Environments: Araby settlements, gorgeous Tomb Kings crypts, teeming jungles, and perhaps the fabled dwarven hold. Post-release with the Ork content you'd visit settlements in Mount Arachnos which would end up feeling a bit like Drachenfels content (a settlement in a rocky mountain). And this is without really inventing a whole lot of new lore stuff, so I'm not even really being all that imaginative here...

Recently I have reinstalled Vermintide 1 to try and get every red weapon that I'm still missing in the game and I have noticed, that I'm not hearing a lot of these filler dialogues in-game. There are a lot of callouts for specials and such from the characters, but not these lore/backstory type conversations. I mostly play on nightmare, and sometimes cata with QoL mod bots, so I'm wondering if these are more common occurences on lower difficulties since I imagine there is more downtime in those settings? I'd really be interested if you know anything about dialogue triggers in this game. Thank you in advance!
@Lumeuu

They are a very rare occurence in the latest game version. Typically story dialogue triggers only during the game session's first mission if playing with bots. So if you want to improve your chances of hearing more, reboot the game after each successful mission when playing with bots. Or play missions with elevators due to the forced triggers. Another pattern I noticed, is when playing in public lobbies, new players "hot-joining" in the middle of a mission might trigger more story dialogue, even if it's not the first mission of that particular host's session.

Indeed, I sometimes switched the bots around. In the QoL mod 'patch' folder there is a file called "BotImprovements.lua" If you wish to modify the bot selection priority yourself, the image link below shows you which section needs to be modified. i.imgur.com/gvw5qWy.jpeg I used Notepad++ to open the .lua file.

6:55 what map is that and on what game? I don’t think I’ve played it. No recollection of being on a boat and having another boat ram you.

The map with boats is "River Reik" from the DLC Death on the Reik

Really could do without these end-of--the-video voice chat noise storms. Otherwise, appreciated.

Elfs general personality of "Im older" or "my gods were here first" really rub me the wrong way. Like, I guarentee every Warhammer elf, is a fucking House Slytherin from Harry Potter.
