I remember trying the Ninja once and completely destroying the entire game but then not being able to do the same thing again on later playthroughs, it's definitely an insane class if you get a good early game

I couldn't agree more-- the Ninja class is one of the quickest classes to snowball with, especially if you find Shelob and get the Dyrnwyn. It's my personal favorite class to play for a reason! :)
@kilivanjg2813
@kilivanjg2813 Месяц назад
@@roogeydoogz I only ever find Dyrnwyn, and the axe on characters that do not use those weapon types. It is both incredibly frustrating and hilariously funny. Every time i find them, on a character i dont need them for, i do a push. Ill be looking like The Rock in no time!

Note on the wizard: I think it is a great starter class, WHEN PAIRED WITH THE CORRECT INFO, and when paired with this info, you get a new view on how to play spellcasters which helps even more in the long run. Use spells as utility, not weapons. Use fireball to inflict burn damage, then run away and let burn do the majority of the damage before returning to deal the final blow Use cold to slow down enemies. It is INSANELY useful since then you can use your staff to beat them down while backpedaling and occasionally turning around and running This helps in 1. Saving mana so you can spam when you really need it 2. Levelling up polearm skill so you arent defenceless against magic resist enemies and enemies that can juke you. Just because you have magic doesnt mean you must rely on magic 3. Generally leads you to play better with spells as other classes such as barbarian I learned this by watching Lyciants streams, love the guy Another tip i can share is when in your inventory, press "skill list" i would reccomend reading through all of their masteries, but see what your class already has stats in, eg arcanist has stats in ranged and tinkering for lockpicking traps. wizard has stats in polearms, Barbarian has stats in axes and a bit in maces. Try to main those weapons, you deal more damage with those anyways and when you reach lvl 100, you get a really helpful bonus with high damage yet fragile weapons. Basically try to not use axes as wizards because axes deal more damage on paper, either way, slow/cold + polearms can let you deal damage without taking it to certain enemies
@CasterOfHope
@CasterOfHope 7 месяцев назад
I recommended Barbarian to one of my friends as a likewise good beginner class. You start with a ring of might that does bonus damage, plus axe weapons bypass some of your AC and still deals damage even on block. likewise with the chance of running into a special skeleton mob holding a red and black axe in the first few levels of the game (mines) you can immediately get a weapon upgrade that doesn't break or degrade, just keep your wits about you going forward in the dungeon and you should be fine. likewise I recommend everyone to learn how block works since especially early levels, leveling your block skill can allow you to get additional AC (armor class/defense) from blocking with lanterns and even torches, so an equipped stack of torches around 20~25 block can defend against most enemies and level your blocking.

Monk can be a strong starting class for a beginner making food mostly a non issue while being really good for dealing with skeletons. It struggles with identification early on but that leans into the classes whole theme of asceticism, doing without material things, etc.
@roogeydoogz
@roogeydoogz 4 месяца назад
I have yet to have a decent run with the Monk, however I've heard so much about this class that I'm willing to give it a try. I've learned that a lot of enemies are prone to unarmed attacks, so in that aspect alone I feel like the Monk is a total ass kicker.
@ham8426
@ham8426 4 месяца назад
@@roogeydoogz well the life after death update nerfed the class to not be wildly OP iirc, it used to be a good class pick for speedrunning apparently, but it still takes the ease off of food concern and unarmed is good in the mines when combined with a touch of stealth, only big issue is that low perception meaning you either go without looting anything you aren't sure is safe even if its cursed or spend more time on early floors grinding out every iota of experience to finally be smart enough to identify mouldy cheese.
@josephscriven5454
@josephscriven5454 2 месяца назад
You basically don't have to worry about food for several levels down. And a torch is adequate defense with them most of the time. And when you do finally start to be able to appraise things, it snowballs into being really powerful. And they start out with the light spell, which makes it easy to learn casting. And they can learn and cast forcebolt fairly consistently early on

I've played the Joker a few times and quite honestly I had a rough time with him. He starts with niche gear, although I completely agree with the ring-- finding any ring early on that gives levitation is beyond useful. I love how the Joker starts with the ring though, it definitely makes smaller hazards like pits much easier to navigate!

I swear that Spell of Light cheese just doesn't work past like level 40 for casting or magic. I am always forced into using higher tier spells like Levitation or burning through staves of lightning from the mines to get there instead.

If I'm not mistaken, I think you're right-- it works until a certain level. Definitely stick to levitation spells or just spam those useless staves once you get them, like the Locking one or the Staff of Light! :)

I personally got my first “win” on Monk, unarmed combat means you do not need to deal with weapon quality And weight, And it only got more powerful as I progressed the stages. If you find a ring of Might early you are very set (it does however mean that you cannot use legendary equipment all that effectively) Nice list though, very agreeable! And Yeah… leadership can go suck a d

Whats the best spells for learning Magic skill? I find that spamming Light is better for Casting, and I'd like to offload spellbooks sooner rather than later.
@roogeydoogz
@roogeydoogz 6 месяцев назад
You'll notice it's typically the cheaper spells that work the best. To my knowledge, it doesn't really matter if you use a "heavy spell" like the Fireball one-- just stick to the cheap ones and spam them whenever you can. If you've just finished a floor, start exploring other areas and spam cast some spells while you're exploring!!

Great guide, thank you! Just wondering why, with Ninja, you say that getting a mace (even a cursed one) makes him so strong. Is that simply because of high melee and skele being weak to mace? It's just that Ninja seems to be 0 skill in mace, but very, very high in sword... would think that would be better to go for?
@roogeydoogz
@roogeydoogz 3 дня назад
Thanks for the compliment! :) As for the Ninja being so strong with the mace- just a few things: The Ninja is great at sneaking around and avoiding enemies, but excels when attacking from behind. You're absolutely right, maces are extremely dangerous towards skeletons. In my experience, I've noticed the Ninja can struggle pretty bad when fighting skeletons, so if you can take them out quickly by assassinating them or rushing them with a mace, you'll be completely fine. Can you use a sword to take them out? Of course, but keep in mind that the Ninja is a squishy class to play as. If you wanna farm up a few Sword levels, go for it! A few extra levels here and there are great, but try to avoid taking too much damage! :) As far as trolls go, use the iron daggers and keep your distance! They deal a crazy amount of damage, and it really helps the Ninja snowball into a terrifying assassin later in the game.

Im not sure if its something with my class race but at some point while spamming light it says something like "ive learned all i can from this spell" and wont gain magic or casting. Maybe there was a patch from the posting of this video to now but also im only a 12 hour deep noob lol
@roogeydoogz
@roogeydoogz 3 месяца назад
Yeah you're absolutely right! Unfortunately it was like a month or so after this video, but indeed, the spell of light will only level you up to 40 or so. Once you get there though, spam cast any cheap spells like Levitation or Forcebolt! :)
@OGTwist
@OGTwist 4 дня назад
idk how you didn't put monk on here, its one of the strongest clases due to having con as its highest stat investment, starts with light one of the best spells to use for magic and casting level ups, doesn't require any weapon due to unarmed training meaning your weapons breaking doesn't nerf your damage. And lastly it starts off with slow digestion, one of the best rings in the game. I wouldn't go out my way to say its the strongest class in the game, but in terms of what the easiest class to win with is? Monk is the first by far

If you have the DLC, conjurer is absolutely the easiest to get a win with, by far. You have a permanent tank that keeps getting stronger, and around player level 6 or 7 you get the 2nd summon and then the game goes into complete easy mode. As far as your comment about leadership not being too great, I disagree. Yes, lower level NPC followers do die easy, but that's because they have low hps and crap gear. Higher level NPC followers are a lot more durable, and when you have 8+ of them, they just gang rape anything in your path. I never manage their gear, and we still curb stomp every level in the game. They do tend to die at boss fights though, but by then you have dominate and can just dominate enemies to get back up to 8 followers, actually beyond 8 if you want.
@roogeydoogz
@roogeydoogz 5 месяцев назад
I tried to include the classes I thought were the best for beginners, without DLC-- However, I agree with your point about the Conjurer. In my opinion, he's probably the easiest and most reliable class in the DLC, albeit mana management is incredibly annoying on the Skeleton race lol. Regarding Leadership, back when I first started playing Barony I actually found Leadership to be very nice. I do agree that NPC followers can be very strong, especially if you're lucky enough to find the "legendary" ones. However I found it to be a little confusing and a little frustrating stacking up a bunch of NPCs just for them to die to enemies and traps. Honestly, I've had them run right into boulder traps while I'm in my inventory and the trap ends up killing me. To add to this, and this is completely biased, I'm personally not a huge fan of managing "followers" in any particular game. I find it more immersive and enjoyable to actually BE the threat, rather than my allies (hopefully that makes sense lol.) Is Leadership a good skill? Of course, especially if you take the half hour to experiment and learn the ropes. However, for someone just starting out, I'd recommend committing to BECOMING the threat, that way they understand the punishing mechanics Barony introduces. But again! I really appreciate your insight. There should have been more information regarding Leadership and why it IS valuable to level up, but it was my first Barony video so there's definitely gonna be some neglect in terms of delivering information!
