Very occasionally a ‘giant’ walks amongst us and you think they will live forever. Mr Barry Humphries was such a man and sending much sympathy to his family, friends and Australia. Thank you for sharing this wonderful human being. 🇦🇺🇬🇧🇦🇺🇬🇧
A very sad loss. Barry Humphries was a comic genius. To have played Dame Edna Everage and Sir Les Patterson so convincingly and so differently demonstrated that he was a master of disguise and comedy. As many have already said, Dame Edna was one the most hilarious and unique characters there is. Whilst obviously planned, the clip showing Dame Edna in the Royal Box with the then Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, and Humphries' ability to be unfazed and still deliver Dame Edna's classic acid tongue one liners, demonstrates his professionalism as an entertainer. He was a very clever man. A truly sad loss to the world of entertainment.
One of the most talented and intellectual actors/stand ups I had the privelage of knowing. Saw him live in Perth Aus and Newcastle in UK in the 80s. Masterclass person. RIP.
Barry Humphries is the ONLY ''drag queen'' that could be said to be child friendly. He had a knack of finding the right level to entertain all strata of society, from a Queen or Prince, politicians, show biz alumni and politicians to your average Bloke and Sheila. His true gift, apart from his brilliant ad lib and comic delivery, was his ability to make people whole heartily believe in the preposterous and hilarious truth of the different personas of Dame Edna, Sir Les and Sandy Stone but above all his own unique self. I cherish seeing him, apart from the many TV interviews and shows, in live theatre in Adelaide in the mid 70's. RIP dear Barry, a true colossus of Show Biz.
I'm listening to how he's passed, which is sad. But I've got a massive smile on my face as I listen. I have to apologise to Barry as well because Dame Edna is just too legendary and was too funny. In some ways, she'll be missed more than Barry will. Sadly, I've brought up Edna a lot online because the yanks have gone crazy over drag queens. They've clearly forgotten or are ignoring someone people around the world took into their hearts for decades because of the laughter she gave them. Rest in peace, Edna.
R.I.P. possums! Barry Humphries you will be missed indeed! Your characters were just out of this world. I can imagine you now up in the heavens above with the spangliest of outfits!
Rip Sir Les. "Joan Collins was a personal friend of mine. Never guess what she put behind her ears to attract the men folk". Long pause and a drink. "HER ANKLES" The greatest comic genius that ever lived. Part of Australia died today
I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF SEEING DAME EDNA & SIR LES HERE IN THE UK IN THE 80’S WE LAUGHED ALL NIGHT, MY SIDES HURT MY CHEEKS HURT & I GOT TO TAKE HOME A GLADIOLI FROM THE DAME & A BLOUSE FULL OF HIS SPIT (GROSS I KNOW) FROM SIR LES. AND FUNNY ENOUGH I WAS ONLY TALKING ABOUT IT A COUPLE OF NIGHTS AGO & NOW TONIGHT I’M HEARING OF HIS PASSING. . . SO SAD. THANK YOU FOR THE HAPPY MEMORIES BARRY, WE WON’T FORGET YOU. I CAN’T IMAGINE YOU RESTING IN PEACE SO YOU KEEP EM LAUGHING.
Last month Lily Savage, this month Dame Edna. This is too much to take......all the genuinely funny people are vacating this earth. Gutted Barry however thanks for giving me some of the best laughs I ever had from a TV set. Your 80s weekend show livened up our family household a whole lot. May you rest in peace
Farewell possum off to the celestial comedy company in the sky, you made me cry with laughter, and pulled muscles in my stomach for laughing to much, if only all people were more like you Dear Dame Edna Everage RIP Beautiful Human being Vale Barry Humphries
Lovely tribute,as a australian, we have lost a good one,l loved his satire, especially sending up Australian attitudes to culture with my favourite character,Les Patterson. Thanks for everything Barry
How Human Nature Works Human nature is the desire to receive, also called “desire to enjoy,” and it functions by receiving what is beneficial to itself and rejecting what is harmful. Everything in our lives is built upon this calculation where we first try to distance ourselves from harm, and then seek how to draw ourselves closer to what is beneficial. Human nature also includes a multilayering of systems that work simultaneously on still, vegetative, animate and human levels. One of those systems is our bodily one, which operates involuntarily. If our bodies are healthy, then they know what is good for them and draw that goodness to themselves. After the bodily system, there is the emotional system, which also functions relatively according to instinct. From the emotional system, we move to the mind, and from the mind to the intellect, and so on. That is, we have systems over systems that concurrently work on receiving what is beneficial and rejecting what is harmful. Such is human nature and the essence of our lives. Our every desire, thought and action operates according to the calculation, “How can we receive what is most beneficial to us and reject what is harmful?”
My favourite Edna line, when a guest got angry at not being able to speak.......(guest) "I thought this was a chat show" (Edna) "Not really, more a monologue interrupted by non-entities!" Ouch
@@RinaCentofanti None of that champ. But i didnt marry four times betraying my wife, desert my children nor suck up to Rupert Murdoch. Guess i finished in front champ. I am laughing today champ. The old grub is not.
Brilliant comedian when in character, no one better. However, I remember him appearing as himself on QI and was surprised by how shy and reserved he appeared.
Only Dame Edna could randomly sit next to the future King of England and the future President of the United States and still be the centre of attention. RIP Barry Humphries.
UGH!! This news REALLY hurt. This man was a comic GENIUS and could make me laugh like nobody else. I'm very thankful that I was able to see him perform live years back in Chicago. This is a huge loss. :'(
Yep... Barry was one of the best comic wits of our time.. I remember him greeting a UK woman celebrity on one of his shows, where (as Dame Edna), he/she said... "Would you like a cup of tea?... you look like a girl who would like something hot inside her" RIP Bazza - we will miss you.
When I think of the joy Dame Humpries brought into my life - primarily as a drag queen, I question the outrage directed towards modern drag queens. Rest in Power Dame extradionary.
Barry Humphries hadn't ever attended children's events in fetish gear and engaged in sexualised behaviour. He was a comedian and a well respected. One thing is not like the other.
