He’ll come back, Tom Cavanagh even said in a interview that if the show ends, it will end with Barry and Thawne’s final showdown. There’s no way that this is how his story ends

Thawne has become more insane over the years. He was much more reasonable in Season 1 and in LOT, which is perfect because he's fairly insane in the comics and in some versions of the story even more than others. There is a comic that explains Thawne went back and changed time a bunch of times just to torture Barry as a kid by ruining his life and killing his school friends as children. This Thawne is clearly becoming more crazed.

A lot of people predicted something like this would happen. In the last volume of Josh Williamson's Flash, Barry did something he had never done before to end his war with Reverse Flash: Forgive him. Thawne tried to attack him but Allen vibrates in a way that "resets" Thawne. As a result, Eobard is now a huge Flash fan working at the Flash Museum in the 30th Century. Extended Context: So Reverse Flash assembled a “Legion of Zoom,” consisting of most of Flash’s villains. They attacked the Flash and weaken him to the point that Thawne is able to steal Allen’s body. He is eventually removed after Barry regains control. The Flash Family gets involved and more villains show up for the battle. During the fight, Thawne reveals that he has been responsible for a lot of events, including Zoom’s origin, Godspeed’s origin, Heroes in Crisis, and Flash Wars. These were mostly done by moving so fast that he couldn’t be seen and by whispering hyper speed to implant subconscious suggestions. More Flashes from across the multiverse show up and help the Flash Family fight the army of villains. Barry chases Thawne into the Speed Force. The narration claims that throughout history, this is the FINAL RACE between Barry and Thawne. Thawne starts talking trash about how they have been enemies for so long. However, Barry chooses to forgive him rather than killing him or allowing him to escape. Thawne gets mad and runs at him, but Barry tricks him by vibrating at the right frequency to infect the Negative Speed Force with regular Speed Force. This “grounds” Thawne back into reality. It erases his experiences as the Reverse Flash, and he becomes a tour guide at the flash museum, completely unaware of the villainous past.

This was a damn solid episode, felt like the quality from the old days.

No matter what the changes are...thawne will always be thawne, it's like there's no amount of kindness or good gesture could ever change this guy...they did this to save him from being erased

Thawne is literally the only saving grace this show has anymore, Tom Cavanagh always delivers an impeccable performance

You know what. This is actually pretty satisfying. Barry taking away what Thawne loves most. Sure saving him is a bit risky. But watching his heart break realizing he has no purpose? Priceless.

The way Thawne gets emotional about losing his makes this episode one of the best ever produced by Flash writers

If this closes out thawnes arc, I’ll be sad but hopefully we get red death or a different iteration on red death, but still holding hope eobard returns

Thawne kind of did it to himself. Should have never created reverse flashpoint. Would have stayed alive and kept his speed.

There’s no way they created that new suit just for 2 episodes. He will come back eventually

I think the showrunners don't want to kill this guy off because whenever they lose their creativity or have no ideas they seem to bring him back.

People keep saying that Thawne will come back and they’re most likely right. But this is the end of Tom Cavanagh’s Reverse-Flash. This is where Thawne’s story ends, but the original timeline Reverse-Flash (Matt letcher) will have to go back in time and try and kill Barry as a child while fighting The Flash, thus killing Barry’s mother. He will come back but as Matts original RF.

everyone has to understand. Thawne was always meant to have speed to be the biggest thorn in barry's side. Thawne is crafty and a pro of manipulating the timeline. even if they got his speed away that is also how he got his speed in the first place (if you follow the comics). Thawne was meant to fuck with the timeline. whatever the cause is, theres always an effect.

So safe to assume red death is gonna be whoever gets Thawn's speed. the potential red death candidates I think are Bloodwork, Godspeed (god I hope not he's lame), Zoom (since Eric Wallace wants to bring him back. I wouldn't mind it being Bloodwork and Godspeed combined tho.

This is the first time we’ve really seen Thawne sad since the alternate timeline when he killed Cisco

I haven’t watched the flash since season 5 so I have no idea why thawne is still alive.

I can imagine if Oliver were still alive, he would’ve told Barry how he stoped his mother’s killer, Slade without killing or letting him die, by taking away his power and locking him up in an ARGUS cell.

This is the first time i saw flash wearing his supposed to be, real boots.

Thawne’s motivation was always vague and made his actions toward Barry feel unjustified, but this gives Thawne a genuine reason to go after Barry. He’ll be back, and now that he REALLY hates Barry, their next clash will be off the rip

If Thawne’s speed is gone, he’s no longer a threat, right?

Thawne knows the procedure behind Barry's speed. His is just an improved (note "improved") version of that speed. Thawne can get his speed back, but with different chemicals than the ones used on Barry. Though, getting his speed back runs the risk of getting wiped.

I don't believe for a SECOND this is the end for him. Eobard Thawne depowered forever is about as believable as Barry losing his powers forever.

Hope the negative speed force lighting that went in air stuck some one and they can do something like Red Death. And I can't wait for Thawne to come back and how they will bring him back

They don't even bother to try to think of anyway to stop Damien Darkh from fading out of existence despite being somewhat redeemed, as he grew and cared about his daughter. We know what Damien wanted but it didn't mean it was impossible. Yet they don't decide to let Thawne fade out and Joe has a angry speech that magically changes minds. They could've at least been too late. The future flash-the matt letsch version is still out there for flash to encounter. I enjoyed this 5 episode story arc but this is the kinda stuff that seperates latter seasons from the much better earlier ones is how like every villain gets to live regardless of how atrociously bad they are or not.

I hope he comes back for the Red Death arc. This feels like RF's story arc isn't over.

My theory is he built something to capture his speed knowing to save his life he’d lose his speed. This is probably part of another plan

I feel like there more to come with season 8 regarding eobard because he went straight to gideon in the fourth act there has to be something eobard is planning it cant be that easy or simple

That horrible human being should be grateful that the people that he tormented, brutalized, manipulated, and terrorized for eight years found it within themselves to take the higher road and save his life. When you think about all the lives that he ruined outside of team flash and all the lives that he has sacrificed in the pursuit of his obsession with Barry Allen, God knows it was not easy. Certainly not for Cait. And he had better thank his victim, Joe West, for this level of mercy. But we all know that the reverse flash will a way to regain his speed and resume his obsession to make every step Barry runs a painful one. That's all he knows. That's all he is. For the past eight years that's all we have seen him do.
