In this Basecamp Adventure we head to the Shropshire Hills. Pitching up at the Cartref Caravan Park we explore the local countryside and hike in the famous hills. Taking on the Lawley and Caer Caradoc circular route, discovering ancient hill forts and close encounters with unexpected Highland Cattle.
This trip is also our first experience towing with a Petrol Hybrid. After a lifetime with Diesel engines, we took delivery of an Audi A3 40 TFSIe Sport PHEV days before and find a better than expected performance whilst towing.

Another stunning vlog Nick. Your drone piloting skills getting better all the time. The Shropshire scenery was very impressive. Love the relationship you have with your dog, she’s living her best life for sure. I’m still on an Audi diesel - A6 Allroad - so impressed with the quality of Audi’s. As always, thanks for taking us along and look forward to your next adventure.

Thanks for the feedback🙏. I fly the drone all manually. I don’t use any of the automatic modes as I like to capture the scenery as I see it but it’s hard to master so I really appreciate your comment. The dog is living her best life as you say yet so am I… bestest friend I’ve ever had❤️

Nice Car Nick. It looks great towing the basecamp. Another stunning area. Not long until you’re up here in bonnie Scotland a 10hr Drive good test for the new motor. Another great vlog mate keep them coming 👍🏻

Great new car. I’m sure the dealer told you but if you always use the onboard sat-nav the car will always work out the best place to use the battery and you’ll also get better mph too. The sat-nav is aware of hills etc and will make sure you’re in the right gear as you approach the hill. Also, if you leave home with a full battery and have a long drive, the car will save some battery for the last part of your drive if the last part is in a city. It’s a very clever system. 👍

Great video yet again Nick. The Audi was impressive, really pleased for you that it delivered ahead of expectations. That pizza looked amazing as well. I’ll add that walk to my list. Did the dog sneak in the quilt? Looking forward to the next video.😊

New car looks great and should prove to be economical for towing the basecamp. We have just changed to BMW 220d so see how we get on with eriba but should be a good match. Great video as always,looking forward to the next one, Cheers.

You’ll be made up with the 220D. BMW Diesel engines are known to be the best.

Lucky with the weather and another beautiful video. Interestingly I'm poised to pick up a new petrol hybrid on Thursday. I did toy with the grey metallic option ( to match the c'van) but opted finally chose white. I'm an ardent car and caravan washer : polisher anyway 😅

Enjoy your new car. I’ve mastered the hybrid now post this trip and understand how to get the best from it. Superb technology. I would never go full EV but a hybrid is a sensible alternative.

Its called Outdoor Active. I plan all the routes on the app which can be followed on the app also. I do get this question all the time so it’s a good nudge to include in the next vlog👍🏻

Is your A3 a plug-in hybrid? If so, did the site have a charger? Even before they made them hybrid, those TFSi engines were really good. My nephew has a 1.2 TFSi Seat Ibiza and its really nippy, also a friend of mine has the 1.4TFSi in an A4 which I found to be surprisingly capable for a heavy car like that 😉

It is a plug in. The site didn’t allow charging of cars however I’m finding it more efficient to charge from the engine. That said, this is all very new to me so just learning as I go! CM&C sites allow charging via the unit. The Audi doesn’t accept fast charging so takes circa 270 mins from a wall plug yet under an hour from the engine.
