@Wben113
@Wben113 Год назад
Your right the product looked beautiful. Bubbles will happen over concrete as moisture escapes in some spots. Heat will get rid of them. You would need spiked shoes to pretty much easily control them. But there will not be alot of them. The big ones happen when the product is put on too thick. But they can be dealt with with a heat torch, I think that is what it is called. If there was a good primer coat on first, it wouldn't be an issue. The small bubbles would be lightly sanded down when it dried and then the product would have no issues being applied. I really liked the look of the metallic. Couldn't really see the finished product.

I have used a lot of epoxy on wood. Similar to concrete, if not more, there are areas on the surface that are not perfect meaning there are cracks or voids where the epoxy will flow which displaces any air in those voids which causes bubbles. The way to mitigate this is to do a very thin sealer coat prior to the top coat and then after the top coat is applied run a heat gun over the surface which will pop any bubbles.
@ShortCircuitedBrewers
@ShortCircuitedBrewers 5 лет назад
Yeah I really think that would have been the ticket!! What primer do you use on wood? I'm doing the bar too with the copper pot epoxy.
@firejohnnym
@firejohnnym 5 лет назад
I use the same epoxy to seal the surface as the top coat. Just use enough to wet the surface and seal the pores then do the final coat on top. If the sealer coat is very smooth do a quick scratch with a higher grit sandpaper so the mechanical bond is there. Cheers!

@ShortCircuitedBrewers
@ShortCircuitedBrewers 5 лет назад
I think there are a lot of variables that effect coverage. porosity of the concrete, moisture levels, and some other things I am not mentioning. I have racked my brain and if I were to do it again. I would probably not follow the directions on the box and plan on 2 coats. First one to seal the concrete and make a "base" for the second coat. not really worrying about coverage, only enough coverage to make sure the concrete is sealed. I think this would prevent some of the bubbles and make a more consistent finish. I would probably not use a drill to stir either as I think it whipped air into the epoxy, possible contributing to the bubbles as well. lol as you can see I thought a lot about what went wrong!!

@ashleerhoades6540
@ashleerhoades6540 3 года назад
Not to be that guy but the bubbles come from moisture in the concrete. I had this same issue on my basement floor and someone mentioned moisture. Before I did my garage I took a piece of trash bag and taped it to the floor and left it for 2-3 days. No moisture had built up under it so I considered it dry. The product laid perfectly in the garage. with no bubbles. I wasn't using the metallic in either application.... Just the grey with the blue, white, and black flecks.
@ShortCircuitedBrewers
@ShortCircuitedBrewers 3 года назад
Yeah I think they should recommend sealing the floor bit they don't. 😔
@Jutilaje
@Jutilaje 3 года назад
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers sealing is definitely not what you want to do, because it prevents the polycuramine from bonding with the concrete. The proper step is to use as little water as you can during the cleaning process (obviously relative, because you've gotta use water. You just don't wanna continuously flood your floor 6-8 times even after it's already been rinsed plenty), squeegee/wet vac all the water out, and then let the concrete dry for much longer than you think it should take. Like 3-5 days. Even better if you can keep it nice and warm (75 degrees or higher) to drive out moisture, and then do a moisture test before you apply the coating. You can use a fancy concrete moisture tester, or like the guy mentioned above, you can take a small square of clear plastic, tape all edges to the concrete floor with a good sealing tape (duct tape or similar), and then let it sit overnight. When you come back, if you see condensation on the inside of the plastic, the concrete still isn't dry enough. Continue drying the slab and checking moisture until you get a plastic square with no condensation, and then apply the coating. Obviously that's far more complicated than rustoleum insinuates on the box, and that isn't 100% necessary to get good results, but it's pretty simple (just time consuming) to do, and will absolutely be worth it. Even if your pad was dry enough to not cause bubbles, letting your pad dry even more will still result in a better application that will last longer and resist chipping/delamination more.

I've watched a bunch of videos on this Rocksolid product and I've also researched a TON on epoxy type floor options in general. I've come to a couple of conclusions. One is that Rustoleum is knowingly trying to sell an expensive product at a price point they know will attract people. They are doing this by telling people they only have to use X amount of product for X amount of sq ft and they are WAY off. It is really unethical of them to do this. Two is that, to keep costs down, they are not recommending a primer which would have stopped your bubbles. If you look at any other epoxy type system you will see recommended rates of 5 times the product per sq ft that Rustoleum is saying to use. But, of course, it costs a lot more money to do that. It's really the only way to get good and consistent results though. You have to spend the money on priming and you have to spend the money on enough product to get a decent thickness and that is all there is to it. I think Rocksolid is a fine product as long as you put a prime coat down first and use around 4 to 5 times the amount of product per sq ft then they suggest.

I did my garage floor with RockSolid coating by Rust-Oleum about 11 months ago or so. And I am not very happy with it. What Rust-Oleum does not tell you outright is any sun that might hit the floor, will fad the coating finish. I have an area of about 2'-0 x the width of my double car garage door that the sun hits and its now faded. Worse, and much worse is when you park your car in the garage and it condensates water on the floor... and the water sits on the floor and waits to evaporate,,, the water will lift the gloss finish right off the coating. When I called Rust-Oleum and reported the problem,, they informed me that these 2 conditions will damage the coating??? Where in the fuck is it posted that plain water will lift the gloss top coat? Or the Sun will fad the coating??It sure as hell isn't listed on the coating description! Don't waste your time, don't throw away your money on RockSolid garage floor coating..

You can not apply heavy, less is better. Use a squeegee THEN roll! However, I am not happy with my look either. The reviews is 50/50 per all reviews. Not worth the risk.

Yeah. I'm retrospect. Al they really need is the addition of a concrete sealer and I "think" That would actually make the product work as intended.. I might be wrong but every other "prosumer" Product out there has a sealer for the concrete under the epoxy so it doesn't soak in and prevents bubbles from coming up. Who knows.. I know I don't recommend it as is!! 👍🍻

When you follow the directions to the letter and even call them to confirm the process? I don't think so. I fully believe they should recommend sealing the concrete first and then apply the product as most professional grade manufacturers do. But they recommended against that in the instructions.

Rustoleum isn't a paint brand I trust, I sure wouldn't trust a product from them that is outside of what is supposed to be their wheelhouse.

Too much labor involved to mess around with cheap shit. Buy BENJAMIN MOORE Super Spec P-40. I did a 1000 sq ft garage, not one issue. Never lifted, pealed or bubbled in seven years so far. Dropped tools, battery acid, oil and grease of all manor, nothing got through. What's the saying Spike uses? Buy once, cry once

Don’t use this product I’ve used this product on a 6x6 meter garage (36 meter) - used rock hard gap filler - used a grinder to remove old paint drips - pressure washed - acid washed - de greased - etched - pressure cleaned - used hard rock porous under coat as it says it makes the top coat go further - then 2.5 garage kit - Small spots of the dark under coat coming through - Will need to redcoat entire job and use fault hiding chips - another clear coat This product is the worst I did An epoxy coating 12 years ago and it’s still in good condition

Yeah.. I feel pretty stupid.. The one video I mention that had "success" made me feel like if I did the right things I'd be good.. Lol yeah right. There are a few things missing from the instructions. After many comments and messages I think if I had put a sealer down and sealed the concrete off it would have worked. Does Rustoleum mention it?? Heck no.. Oh well lesson learned! 👍🍻

Short Circuited Brewers Don’t feel stupid. I’ve read dozens of bad reviews and for some odd reason I keep searching and searching for a good one? Probably cause I just like the way it looks so much, but like you I want to think if I do it better it will come out fine.

you have the poorest surface preparation I've even seen, concrete no etching, no primer, a lot of moisture,,,, I guess you intentionally want the coating to fail....
@ShortCircuitedBrewers

Funny thing is I did EXACTLY what the directions said as well as called Rustoleum to confirn what to do.. Not a single mention of a sealer.. Or anything etching other than the citric acid
@asroma5216
@asroma5216 5 лет назад
@@ShortCircuitedBrewers from technical point, etching is the best way for concrete to generate hydroxyl group on it, which will then form hydrogen bond with the hydrophilic group on the modified epoxy polymers, which greatly enhance the epoxy film adhesion to concrete. but remember to apply the etching product and wait for a few days drying before apply the two part epoxy. moisture in the concrete may induce blisters and peel-off later
