Never heard the “cocking the leg to free up the diaphragm” explanation before. Just like the M14 Hi Power Match “unfair advantage “ mag rules. How that spilled over into combat rifle training is anyones’ guess.

I think everyone who watches pat regularly knows EXACTLY how it spilled into combat rifle training. Starts with "i" and ends with "nstitutional inbredding".

@jwilsonhandmadeknives2760
@jwilsonhandmadeknives2760 2 года назад
If you don't get your diaphragm off the ground you are eventually going to get tired from your diaphragm having to lift your body to breathe. Tired leads to fatigue, pulse, and inconsistency. Once you support the position (mag on the ground, bipod, bags...) it's not such a big deal because you are only doing half the work of maintaining position. Fundamentals exist for a reason. Nobody is doing extra steps just because. You don't have to learn or follow fundamentals, but you'll be better if you do. Are you going to do this in combat? Probably not. But if you want to learn how to shoot a better group, which leads to better zeros, then it matters just like Pat said. Or you can rely on bags like the rest of the part timers.

Notice, he didn't have to remain in the prone position during his explanation. He could have shown the position, then gotten up with the camera and moved to a bench for the rest. Secondary lessons: be comfortable staying on the ground a while, and stay fit enough to get up briskly. Thanks for the example, Pat.

Teaching is like playing the guitar. Anybody can develop the skills necessary to be a good guitar player. But some are born with a talent to play, and then add experience to their talent. Those are the legend players everyone remembers. Pat, you were born with a talent to teach and have added experience to that talent. You will be, for me, a legendary teacher. I learn so much in so little time from you. I can instantly begin applying your lessons so that I get better. I am grateful for finding your channel. And my wife is grateful for your basic dude stuff channel. I've picked up good habits from those 5 minute gems and she has noticed.

Thank you for the insightful video. If I am following your video correctly, you are saying that "Position points the barrel. If the position is incorrect, the shooter has to engage muscles to refine the barrel's orientation toward the target. All the while, the barrel is seeking to return to its original orientation". Additionally, breathing and watching the sight rise and fall is also a way to demonstrate the shooter's control of the weapon. You are doing all your viewers a great service and some people from Wisconsin consider you a blessing.

Ha just was doing the BRM most of sunday am,Rifle & Pistol, thought I was the only one that did that. Oh and the magazine on the ground or being pushed on yeah that's an actual real thing,Army basic in 78 it was due to the mags and rifles being used up, I had to re-qualify three times because of magazine issues the jamming was caused by me pressing the magazine against the sandbags it would cause feed issues, keep in mind these rifles and magazines were so used that you could rattle the magazine around in the mag well and I don't mean just a little bit.
