Just a heads up as I just found out recently it is actually illegal to throw bass back in supposedly as they are invasive, one of the few laws they have lol, just turn the camera lol
@jonesfishing
@jonesfishing 4 года назад
Yeah, they are considered invasive. I've heard about that law, but I'm pretty sure it's legend. Because the FLW hold tournaments in Busan, Korea. And they definitely release the bass back into the water. I think it derives more from the crucian and prussian carp anglers no liking the bass because they eat those small fish, that Korean's love to catch so much.
@jonesfishing
@jonesfishing 4 года назад
@@Adam-r2x8j you totally missed the point as to what I was saying. The largemouth law is definitely urban legend. They wouldn't have bass tournaments that involve releasing them after the tournament if that was a real law. Also, there are actually no national fishing laws in Korea as far as freshwater goes.

@@jonesfishing nice video! Actually, it is an actual law but just not enforced. Like many other laws here. For instance, it's also illegal to fish from motorized boats, but again they have two bass leagues here that hold tournaments (KSA and LFA)..usually at Andong Lake. Bass were introduced in the 70s and yes, considered an invasive species in Korea (much like Asian carp and Snakeheads in the states). I grew up in the NE (Connecticut) myself. Been fishing in Korea since 2000 and the fishing population is growing, with more than 7 different bass shows on Korean fishing TV. Im mostly fishing on Chongpyong Lake, 1 hr NE of Seoul. SHout out and maybe we can fish sometime.

@@bassfishingasia Thanks man! Again, I'm not stating that they aren't invasive. I am aware of the history of bass in Korea. However, can you show me an actual statute or written document that says this is a law? I have only seen it as hear say on forums. As well as actual Koreans saying that it is not an actual law, just something that is encouraged and common courtesy. I understand why people don't want them released. What is wanted is not necessarily legal obligation unless there is actually a legal document or statute stating such. It's funny you use snakehead in the states as an example because it is a common misconception that you are obligated to kill them after you catch them. Most states actually allow you to release them back as long as it is in the same body of water they were caught in. Unfortunately I no longer live in Korea, so it's not feasible to meet up to fish.

Enjoyed your Korean fishing Jonesy. Have you tried top water poppers with your fly rod? I slay both bass and perch/blue gills with top water poppers. What month of the year was this? Be safe shipmate.
@jonesfishing

Thanks Phil! I have used a popper a few times, it can be a lot of fun. I lost the couple I had and have yet to buy more haha. This was in July. I'm really behind on videos. Hope you are able to get a tight line during this winter

Hey man, nice video! We’re the South Korean fishing laws virtually nonexistent?? I’m looking into traveling there once COVID relaxes.
@jonesfishing
@jonesfishing 3 года назад
Yes! There was basically no laws. There are certain rivers that are protected, but there are usually signs that you can use Google translate on to verify. People will tell you there is a law to kill bass when caught, however this law is made up. They are invasive there, so I understand why people say that, but you are not forced by law to kill them.
@ScottimusPrime

@@jonesfishing thank you so much! My girlfriend has family there and I would have already visited there if it weren’t for COVID. Anyway, I looked into the fishing laws and couldn’t believe there weren’t permits or anything like that!! Minus fishing on private property, I get that people would charge for that. Thank you so much!
@jonesfishing
@jonesfishing 3 года назад
@@ScottimusPrime Yeah man! No problem! Use Google maps to find little reservoirs and ponds for bass and snakehead. Most of those are actually public water or at least no one says anything about fishing them. Good rule of thumb is if it looks pristine with no trash or anything you probably can't fish it haha. Good luck!

Good spot outside of humph preys across the bridge underneath it, or the Han tan river, I don’t know if that’s the right spelling, but tell the korean cab drivers the Han tan river and they will take you, good fly fishing 🎣 and it’s a great spot to chill
