Hey guys, I realized that I never put timestamps in the description like I had planned to do 4 plus years ago lol. If anyone is still watching here are all the timestamps for the different endings if you want to skip the ones you have already seen. Rescuing Zulf 0:20 With Zulf Evacuation 4:11 With Zulf Restoration 8:45 Moving on without Zulf 13:02 Without Zulf Evacuation 16:24 Without Zulf Restoration 21:07

Bastion gives us a good life lesson. On the first choice, restore, it gives us a chance to bring everything back. But, the time will come where the calamity will destroy everything again. This choice gives you a temporary feeling of happiness yet, an eternal feeling of pain. It's wrong. Whilst the second choice, it teaches you the most valuable lesson in life. Moving on. accepting the fact that you cant bring everything back. But its up to you guys whether you interpret the game the same way that I did.

I call bullshit. It does none of those things. You can’t restore and go back in life, and there might be no calamity because they remember. Zulf gets married is an example. There is no eternal feeling of pain because if they don’t remember and don’t fix the calamity then they keep going back in time until they eventually pick the evacuation choice

I chose to save Zulf and evacuate. Zulf is a victim of the Calamity just like everyone else, and after the hard lesson he learned from his actions, he deserves a second chance. Those who fail to remember history are doomed to repeat it. We cannot risk it. Zia expressing that her will to live starts after the Calamity helps.

Agreed. I went back for zulf as well, and chose restoration, believing a second chance at avoiding the whole mess and making sure everyone could live was worth it. But now I wonder if that was really the better option. No, zulf wouldn't have his wife if I chose evacuation, but I feel like he'd have a second chance at it all on a different way. Even if the calamity itself could be avoided completely, who's to say any remaining tension between the ura and caelondians wouldn't have boiled back over again at some point?

Saved Zult (he learned his lesson), and evacuated. 1. The kids life before the calamity sucked; and I didn't want him to go through losing his mom again. 2. The Caels & Ura sounded like terrible people, and not worth saving. 3. Zia's life was wretched before the calamity as well. Her saying her best memories were after the calamity said a lot. Also, don't insult he guy, it's a game, naturally it's a lightweight decision when you know that has no actual impact, and so you just choose whatever makes the plot more interesting, and "making everything repeat itself" isn't as interesting

While rescuing Zulf is an obvious choice, I think Evacuating is also a good choice. We can see how the characters struggle through their daily life during the credit of restoration ending. Would it be worth a very high risk of it happening again? Even if said characters did remember, they don't remember enough to get into power. Just what they pieced after the world fell apart, and those same people who had the power to and wanted to build the machine may do it over again. I played the game recently and the climate is tense, with distrust among both populations. What if Ruck is the kid. Restoration had no effect on those inside the Bastion and the kid we played prepares the Bastion for the next loop knowing the Calamity is inevitable. By the time the Calamity happens again, we're old and meet our younger self at the Bastion and guide him on his journey to repeat the exact same adventure and reach the same result for eternity... until you choose to evacuate leaving behind any chance to save everyone and gambling on your survival.

Just played and beat it. Saved Zult and evacuated. The kid's life before as well as Zia's life were not good. The Ura were being persecuted and still hated the city. The world the kid was in wasn't worth saving at all, and then the time will repeat thing. The Ura bombed hiroshima to this calamity, which was overboard, but just from a selfish perspective of the kid, there is nothing you would be going back to. But Zia having hope for the future was the pure deciding factor for me. Someone wanted to stay.

Thanks for the video! I saved Zulf cuz who knows why, but he probably learned his lesson after getting jumped by his own. With the crew back together and the future open there must be better options.
@lizardbrain4836
@lizardbrain4836 2 года назад
It seems evacuation is the most popular choice in this comment section so I will give my best reasoning of why I chose restoration. 1: The cycle does not NECESSARILY repeat itself. Massive changes in the direction of a future can often come from or chased back to a very minor event or decision (it's called the butterfly effect). A real life example of this is Vladimir Petrov not reporting a few stray american missiles on (which turned out to be a bug on the interface) his radar during the apex of the arms race during the cold war. If he did, the Russians would have retaliated and the Americans would have launched nukes as well. This minor decision has saved the lives of BILLIONS OF PEOPLE AND PREVENTED A NUCLEAR WINTER. Then throw quantum mechanics adding randomness to everything as well making it very possible to end with the country being saved from the calamity. This is somewhat strengthened by the fact that Ruck sais it's unlikely they will forget all their memories in the end credits of restoration. 2: There seem to be very few survivors in general. The Ura you fight seem to still have some numbers but anywhere else in the world is completely devoid of human life. How would one propogate the human race with just a handful of survivors? I feel like this would quickly lead to inbreeding problems. By restoring, you could save the lives of the VAST majority of the population 3: Why would the Ura suddenly bury the hatchet after you evacuate? To them, the fact that you chose not to restore their homeland after you had the chance to but rather evacuated probably sounds like a massive betrayel which either 1: makes it unlikely that they will join you on the evacuation leaving you with even fewer survivors or even worse 2: will actively work against you evacuating. 4: How do we know there is any fertile or habitable living space outside of the country? For all we know we could end up evacuating to a place without any kind of life whatsoever leaving everyone to die. The one key point that could make me change my mind is that if I accept point 1, I also have to concede that it's possible that not only a second calamity DOES happen, now the kid or anyone of similar capability/competence are also dead and there is no way to restore the bastion, leaving the survivors with no other option than to survive in a post-calamity country. But is this even that bad of an option? The handful of people could just chill at the bastion and try to artificially build it out as a village for anyone left alive. idk

Maybe they can prevent the calamity........

I left Zul and did Restoration just a moment ago... And well, since I binged the game, the time that ZulF* was with me was very VERY short, seemingly. In IRL time anyways. * (see, I don't even know his name properly, he was THAT unimportant to me) And, in that short amount of time he hijacked and boarded our home and lived like a parasite, then got a book that only he could read, didn't cooperate with it, then left and betrayed & then freaking INVADED us (which killed MY beautiful SQUIRT, how dares he?!), and then even stole our girl... Like... What?? Yeah, nah fam. Toodles bitch, you stay dead, and don't worry, since the beginning of the story, our quest was to restore the Bastion, and because Ruck knew what for - and since he MADE IT - yeah, the quest from the start was to turn back time and undo the calamity and the war. So I did that. You're good, and alive, and thank me in the next life. And while I do all that, you can lie there on the floor and rethink your awful actions. On the subject of Zia, though... Yeah, I kinda simped. Even got the game itself because I heard "her" song (waaAAy too many times... Like, that song needs a restraining order haha) on RU-vid first :) Buuut, the simping is not the only thing required in that relationship. The gramps is the OG here, and it's basically his (Ruck's) story, we just help develop it. He's the narrator. Hell, he might've already heard or lived this story a few times by turning back time, or he might've even BEEN the kid ("reminds me of myself when I was a kid" + he knows everything in vivid detail, but how when we know from the dream sequences that the protagonist/the kid/we are not the talkative type). Anyhow, just theories here, from a great and fun story and game ^^ But, alas, yes. Simping ain't enough, and she left, for Zulf non-the-less, soooo... Gramps gets the Restoration ending.

And then when you watch the end credit picture of their life depending on the ending. If you choose restoration Zia sits alone on the stairs playing her harp, she looks lonely and sad. But if you choose evacuation she's on the bastion waiting to for an adventure to come. Also thanks for doing the 4 ending. I didn't want to run the game 4 times although I did 2 times already. I saved Zulf and undid the Calamity. He was right to be angry that the people from the city had tried to....basically kill all his people. So couldnt quite kill the guy. Even if he had crimes to pay for. And living around with 3 people to MMMAYBE find other place to live and find other people...just sounds crap. Particularly when I saw the statues of all the people who died. When I saw the kid's friend. All the poor creatures trying to survive. Even if it was unlikely to succeed I thought it was better to try and reverse the Calamity. Overall the game is fun. I like that it allows you to play the way you want, increasing the difficulty level with gods, and different weapon combos are fun to try. The story however is fairly bland, and the choice ending is kinda crap. I did however like how the uhura attack you at first with zulf, and then some stop attacking, and they stop each other...that was quite a nice scene. But everything after that......MEH

It's different artwork that shows different resolutions for the characters. The whole point of a story's ending is knowing what happens to the characters. If you sail off then you see Zia standing happily looking into the distance, and you see an unhappy Zulf chopping vegetables. If you restore the world you see Zulf happily reunited with his fiancée and Zia sadly sitting down with a harp. Zulf and Zia's stories respectively showed him at the peak of his joy, about to get married, and her in a world where everyone around her hated and distrusted her. Of course she'd want to go forward, and he'd want to go back.

if I have one criticism of Bastion's story, it's that SPOILER (read only if you did the renewal ending): After the renewal ending and playing NG+, Rucks keeps bringing up this sense of deja vu, like he's been here before. That would mean that reversing time didn't prevent the calamity, therefore there's no point to reversing time, therefore the other ending (sailing off into the sunset with Rucks and Zia) is the only meaningful and good ending. I wish Rucks had the same dialogue as the original. That makes your choice much more ambiguous.
