Yep getting the barbeque ready for the big day Sunday of Snags Steaks & Beer ready for the race on the big screen, couldn't come down budget is tight this year so the boys & I had to have at home, to make more feel like we're actually there we setting everything up outside just hope it doesn't rain lol.

The RACECAM onboard camera, an Australian invention was put together and first used in Bathurst by the Seven TV Network. It was a big thing that year. They talked non stop through out the race,about it. It then was used all over the world. I am sure it won't be too hard to follow it up.

First thing I did when I got my licence was to lap around the mountain lol It's awesome. As a kid I grew up watching Bathurst 1000 with Peter Brock and each time we drove past Mt panorama my dad would lap around the mountain because the track is open to the public when there are no events on.

I live on the Great Western Highway which is the road out of Sydney most people use to get to Bathurst. It's getting busier by the day.

Likely going to be rather wet right up to the weekend. Most of eastern Australia has been having some extreme rain, flood warnings everywhere.

They used to be solid rear axels but have since moved to Independant rears about 10 years ago

The cars have a rear mounted transaxle and independent rear suspension today, but a lot of the cars in this video were running a control "Ford" 9 inch live rear axle. Usually when they smacked a wall the first thing that would break would be the watts linkage, which would allow the rear axle to move around like that. I think they switched to the transaxle back in 2013, when the "Car of the future" chassis was first used

The flag drops for the main event on Sunday 5 December at 12:15 Bathurst Time. That's about 7pm Saturday 4 November in Illinois.

I remember at the Sydney car show in the early 2000s, they had the winning car in it's as finished condition. And it was a mess, all the panels were dented, the front was taped on, all the aero kit was off angle and car was covered in grease and road dust and tape.

Ian you should search for Bill Brown’s Bathurst smashed. He had two incredibly big smashes around the end of the 60s. In one he rolled along one of the old fences.

Quick fact before mount panorama was built in 1938, the main race track was 45 minutes away in orange it was called sir jack brabham circuit and there use to be a landing strip in the middle aswell and they left the windsock on the corner to this day. Now it’s a massive park in the middle called sir Jack Brabham park, the circuit is no longer there is streets and the long straight has the main hospital for the area.

It's begun!! I've been glued to the TV since Monday as on our pay TV service, Foxtel, they have a dedicated Bathurst Channel... Monday and Tuesday all classic races and driver features, today was a lot of support categories such as Super 2 and 3, Toyota 86s, Australian Touring Cars, Touring Car Masters and S5000 open wheelers. We get the first proper Supercar practice sessions tomorrow!

Watching the race on the screen is the best way to keep track of what's happening, to watch the race, but being there and walking around the track as it's happening ..... beer in hand ..... is by far the best way to feel it. The race becomes secondary to the experience of being there.

Somebody could broadcast Bathurst on discord for you and the community to watch and interact together.... one of the bartenders at my local pub was watching a ufc fight on his laptop at the bar with us that his mate was sharing on discord... it worked a treat

A mate of mine and myself used to watch the race together every year until I had to relocate for work purposes. He was a Ford man, I supported Holden. But, this didn’t matter because we didn’t care who won. We really watched, and had friendly wagers, on which lap the Betta Electrical car would crash or break down.

Its unbelievable how step the mountain is, on tv it just looks like a normal hill with a road on it but I live in Bathurst and always drive around it and some parts of is are increeeeedlibly step.

I’ve been flag & comms the past 3 days at Murray’s corner, looking forward to the next couple of days for the main event! They keep predicting rain which could make things interesting but so far it’s been pretty warm and only the occasional light shower. Always something interesting- there was an albino kangaroo yesterday and an echidna on the track.

Hi Ian, well you certainly do understand the situation of racing at Bathurst - which is today for me. We appreciate the fact that you are such a fan of our unique Great Race, and I hope you do enjoy it in 2021. Best place to view the race at the mountain - is on the mountain, ie right up the top, in the paddocks, where all the best action happens, tho those off's at the end of Conrod and thru the Chase were crazy due too the immense speeds that they are carrying. The cars 2005 to 2013 had a live rear axle in line with a watts linkage suspension. There was one anchor point in the roll centre that could raise and lower the ride hight. The watts linkage when it broke would leave the back axle floating under the car.

at 4:40, im pretty sure after that crash they added more tire barriers there as there was normally never bad crashes there (and they made the tires more connected to not just single im pretty sure too. And boy it was good to see Chas Mostert win this year, cause he used to win quite a bit until a horrible crash through skyline and into the dipper in 2015, he broke his leg and wrist it was so bad

Not my favourite type of vid but that 'knife-edge' that they race on is amazing. When they wander from that groove (or something breaks) the track becomes like ice. Looking forward to the race! Cheers. PS. There's a view from onboard when the wheel hit Craig Lowndes' windscreen. From memory the actual incident was only a few frames long - then bang.

The shifted axle was the old watts linkage rear end. With a solid axle iirc. Often with severe contact it would cause the rear end to shake from side to side

last i heard the cab can get up to 60 degrees celcius, and sometimes their coldsuit system fails, but still race on. And some drivers have reported losing up to 6kg of body weight over the duration of a Bathurst 1000 race.

Yep solid rear axel. The Ambrose/Murphy accident was the famous scuffle one. Race had just restated after safety car with only a handful of laps to chequred flag

Was great to sit back and watch a full day of racing yesterday. Looking forward to seeing the Supercars on track today. That was McLaughlin in that Volvo, now in Indy Cars. Touring car masters provided some great racing yesterday, loved the sound from the big bangers.

For me 1992 till 2013 was when the sport was at its peak. Once they changed to COF i feel the sport went downhill. Many still like the modern era Supercars but it's just not for me. Personally id rather watch the old archived races

Some of the promo videos they have up are so good, they use them to start the days coverage, the one that is top right on the end of this video in the suggested, he's Mark Larkham former racer now commentator, his passion is awesome and the fans love him so much that when he was dropped from the broadcast team the fans went nuts and forced them to bring him back. There has been a Russell Crowe narrated intro too a few years ago. And one with the rolling car cgi'd bouncing over the narrator as he walks that section of the track.

Chaz Mostert's crash from a couple of years ago was huge, and a bit frightening. Hitting the marbles are a killer. It’s what undone young Broc Feeney this weekend as he came through the Cutting. Just 2 laps later Van Gisbegan had a slide in the exact same spot and regained it just a fraction of second before he collected the wall. There was only about 10mm between the Gisbergan and the concrete.

I hope you enjoy Bathurst on Sunday. I personally cannot wait- I love to watch the first hour & the last hour & intermittently watch the rest. I just want to check to see if you have received my parcel- I sent in back in October, the tracking said it arrived at the start of Nov- but you where on holiday, so I don't know if it has gotten lost. There is a picture of a quokka & a fairy penguin on the box.

Live rear axles, contact to the wheels tend to snap the watts linkage leaving the axle shifting laterally under the car.

Hey Ian, at 15.12 the 33 Volvo was Scott McLaughlin, now in Indy team Penske. Lot of the early commentary was done by Leigh Diffey now NBC commentator.

One of the many amazing and awesome things about Mt Panorama is the weather, it might be pouring rain at the top but warm and sunny at the bottom, so you also have to deal with changing weather conditions in different parts of the track, spectators will pray for rain lol

Have you seen Daryl Waltrips adventure on the mountain. What an absolute legend. I've hardly had much NASCAR experience but I am aware of Daryl. Heart on his sleeve and no filter for his brain. I love people like this. Birds of a feather.

They have what they call a Watts linkage which holds the rear diff and axles in place. When a car crashes, and you see the rear drive train moving sideways, you can garauntee that the watts linkagehas been broken from the chassis.

Close to every season sees a change to the specifications of the cars. A big drift from the near showroom stock condition of fifty years ago. A few years earlier and nobody ran a roll cage and even a change to non showroom tyre makes of the same size caused an objection from teams who did not think to use a better make of tyres. Eg Pirelli to replace stock Dunlops.

Only 13 hours until Bathurst starts..... I've driven around the track myself back in 1994. I particularly remember the dipper, there is no road in front of you it just drops down and you kinda have to have faith that it's there. I was even doing under the speed limit so can't imagine what it's like doing top speed in a V8.

The cars of this era were live rear axle. When they hit a wall the Watts link would break and there be no lateral location.

13:00 Just a bit of context Warren Luff and Craig Lowndes are really good mates and had raced together as team mates just the year before in the same car for the enduro races. You really should look at the Bathurst 12 Hour and the Bathurst 6 hour. The 12 hour is for GT3 cars and is already very popular worldwide. The 6 hour is for Production cars is very quickly gaining fans.

even the small seemingly harmless wall taps are violent as hell, remember they are going 250kmph plus, a wall tap will hurt bad.

Probably the worst driving conditions are when it's pouring with rain (or hail) at the top of the mountain and sunshine & dry at the bottom or vise versa.

Watt's Linkage suspension Ian when the linkage breaks it goes side to side they can fix it but depends on other damage to the chassis etc

There have been many years that rained and the drivers would change the tyres throughout the race. Always adds a bit more excitement.

That wall KILLED Ronny Toomes when he lost it and he and his side car ran head on into the wall at nearly 100 mph. That was basically the end of motorcycle racing on Mt. Pamorama.

I haven't checked the weather forecast, but I'd say there will be some rain..... it hasn't stopped raining here for weeks it seems, constant drizzle with the occasional downpour, terrible weather lately.

On entering Sky Line you can not see the other side you have to know where the corner is by memory. May motorcycle rides just point their bike where they remember (think) the corner is close their eyes as the bike becomes air born and hope for the best.
