As a MAX G2 owner myself, thanks for continuing to vlog the scooter's performance with some of the controller firmware versions. I'm still disappointed in Segway-Ninebot for not giving it a 48V battery so that they wouldn't have to nerf the torque and deal with battery overheating issues. After seeing your vlogs on the scooter, my MAX G2 will continue to remain on controller firmware version 1.4.4 so that it can climb some of the steeper inclines in the area I live in.

Battery extension that upgrades it to 48v?

Yah 48v would have been perfect. Acceleration is a bit anemic compared to when the G2 initially launched. I used to be able to make it up that mountain without the need to walk the scooter up the last couple hundred feet. I know they’ve got some features floating around out in beta that allow for stronger acceleration. We’ll see if that ever makes it out in a future firmware update.

Just glad the Overheating is a thing of the past. They got it right with all the firmware updates.

Did you experience a lot of overheating? I personally didn’t but saw lots of people who did. The thing I experienced the most was the phantom braking when going fast down hill. Thankfully the firmware updates have addressed those. The App and over-the-air updates are a big reason why I really like the Max G2.

Great content. I’m on firmware 1.4.8. Is it worth updating to 1.5.3 and latest 1.7.0 battery. Or will I loose a lot of torque/speed?

So from a safety perspective I always recommend updating to the latest firmware as each update typically addresses an issue. With that being said, going from 1.4.8 to 1.5.3 will likely result in slightly decreased hill climb performance. I haven’t noticed an impact to top speed. Going from 1.4.8 to 1.5.1 does have a negative impact on battery performance, but that issue has been resolved with 1.5.2 and 1.5.3. Firmware 1.7.0 does appear to further improve on downhill battery and regen performance.

I would go with the Max G2 all day. Overall it has a very refined ride, excellent app performance, and a big community around it. The S1 does have a larger battery and higher voltage (42 vs 36) and supports heavier riders up to 140kg vs the G2’s 120kg, but I question the geometry of the front wheel and stem as the wheel axle sits forward of the stem centerline. G2 is also capable of higher speeds and has an integrated charger, meaning you only need to plug in a cable instead of a cable/brick combo.

Ive ordered a G2 Max as my first electric scooter, would it be wise to update to the latest firmware as soon as I get it or keep it on whatever version it comes with? Also I’ve only ever had experience riding Lime Scooters, would this be much of a different experience?

I personally would. I don’t see any major issues that would prevent me from making the update. The G2 had faster acceleration when it first launched, but even after all the updates, it’ll still be a much better riding experience than the Lime Scooters. You’ll find that the ride is much more refined.

As a Max G2 owner I definitely not advice to update your Max G2. The first software of the device when your buy is allow to crack and you can increase your speed to 35km. Unfortunately current softwares not allowed to crack and the speed limit always same.

Hey! I use the Victagen 5k lumen light from Amazon. I don’t think it’s actually 5k lumens, but it’s very bright and more than sufficient for my needs. Magicshine also has really solid options but at a higher price.

Of the most recent updates, I think 1.7.0 has the best battery performance; at least on hills. I noticed the biggest difference with 1.7.0 when going downhill. Seems like they improved the gradual braking behavior and regen efficiency. Power and acceleration seem about the same as 1.5.3 and 1.5.2.

That really sucks. Was the battery really low when you updated the firmware? Also, was the update interrupted at all, maybe WiFi dropping or something like that?

@tomsgadgetgarage battery was at 50% today but i updated it a week ago. Apparently i saw that the firmware update could possibly cause charging issues and I'm needing to use an external battery charger with a brick to compensate until they fix this bug...

Did Segway provide you with a charger? I recall seeing a couple posts on Reddit about potential charging issues people are experiencing. Hopefully it’s software related and not an issue with the internal charger.

Hello! Congrats on your new scooter :). In the Segway app, depending on your region, you should be able to go into Settings > Custom settings of sport mode > enable Sport Mode > and set Max speed to 22mph/35kmh. I do know this isn't available in all countries due to some local regulations.

I ride with 46psi in both tires and weigh about 91kg. I’ve found it to be a pretty good balance between comfort and range.

I updated the battery firmware and took it out for a quick spin. Didn’t ride long enough to notice a change in range. Hopefully it doesn’t.

I think 1.7.8 is for Bluetooth. Is Master Control 1.7.0? If so, that’s the most recent firmware.

That was a non electric road bike. The folks riding that mountain put in some hard work on the way up and let loose on the way down haha. If only the Segway didn’t limit my downhill free wheeling speed I’d be able to keep up 😀.
