BATTLING RAIN & WIND for 500 miles Across France on a Road King Special (S2-E1)

March 2024. We was planning to go Scotland on our road king special. I had done 2500 mile journey around Scotland on my old chopper in 2022 & Lisa missed out and has been on about it ever since. But the weather looked to be too bad for a wild camping motorcycle trip. So at the last minute , plan B was France, That was as much of a plan as we had. Nothing booked. Let's just see as much as we can, ride hard , search for the sun and catch some mountains. France is so diverse and the people are amazing .. Oh and the weather is fine in The South.

Cheers man … it’s great that I’ve found one I can pack ! … the weather gets better … that day was challenging but we kept laughing about it . Either that or cry and the tissues were wet !

Into this video at 1:43…had to put in on pause to write. I subbed immediately. No windshield and the view from the cockpit and the guitar…instant sub. Next I love the Road King Special. No fancy electronic stuff….just a great bike. Two up as well. Just to cool. Love it. Okay back to the video.

Ironically you rode through torrential rain to avoid Scotland’s rain, but it paid off. Scotland isn’t going away so later in the season guys. Loved the video

Re Full face helmets ,I have a Scorpion Exo Tech,chin guard deploys to rear , like open face but very wet I use it full face .

Another great video 🙌. I’d recommend getting an Emovis tag for the toll booths - pit it in your jacket and drive straight through without stopping / faffing and just pay by direct debit 👍

Thanks for that . I didn’t know about that That sounds so much easier . Tbh we was very unprepared as was last min thing . I guess that way it also Knows you are a motorcycle? Twice it tried to charge us for a car But I had to argue it out . Obviously because car too close behind us .

@@LeanIntoTheWind Yeah, I’ve swapped between car and bike and it’s always detected it correctly in the automated lanes. I’ve heard occasionally it can get it wrong but you can just contest it. It’s a game changer on a bike to not have to keep taking tickets / find payment cards etc!

@@sagalout not too much hassle for me as Lisa on the back , and she keeps card ticket on top pocket, more of a nightmare when on ya own I used to hate trying to take gloves off etc . But good to know … as that deffo sounds easier ! Thanks again

Thanks so much . Appreciate that , so close with the tuning , it’s actually DADDAD , David Crosby used it a bunch , but that is one of my songs (or a little piece of it ) the guitar is a Martin backpacker , I picked it up used , think I paid £150 . Knew they are 350 I think , but I hate new guitars and that seemed too much money to tie to the back of the bike .

I was brought up on the likes of John Martyn, etc., so my inspiration was fingerstyle DADGAD and the like, which is a versatile tuning for a lot of styles. Loving your tunes, pal.

Ah man hope you have a great time . If you going there make sure to go to Ile De Re’ it’s an island just near La Rochelle it has huge bridge to get to it , but that island is so beautiful.. and some really wonderful places to visit especially with your lady .. apparently rated some of the most romantic spots in France , tiny port harbours with incredible restaurants etc … the bars are OEM Road Glide . No cable changes needed .. as in all standard fit .

How did the weight of RKS and Chopper compare ?.

Not comparable.. so far apart . I mean it was still a big twin , but so stripped back it was miles lighter than the RKS . But it only really comes into play if you drop em and have to pick them up right .. And very slow tight manoeuvring stuff .. I can sense with the rks if she is gonna go . She will just go , it’s definitely a fine line .. I come close a few times when I first got her , always slow tight turn , but now more used to it , leave the bloody front brake alone at slow speed , but yeah miles apart ..
