MB Firstly, I've loved this song since the 80s. But, when you actually look at the lyrics, they're about a baker's-dozen long... lol What you're feeling is ALL Peter Murphy's voice, with the perfect nuances of David's bass and Daniel's guitar-effects
This song describes Peter Murphy the main singer of Bauhaus’s mundane life where he grew up in Northampton in England. He was a book binder for years and he wanted to get out of that monotonous life in there and he did become a legend. Grandfather of goth, we salute you!!
@Touchdown Bundy There is no definitive proof that Bowie had intercourse with Lori Mattix. All we have heard is her word, which hasn’t been too consistent.
@Touchdown Bundy Where’s your proof? All I know is that Bowie refused to partake in a kissing scene in Labirynth because of the age gap between him and Jennifer Connolly.
When my Mum died, nobody called me. When David Bowie died, everybody called me. The next evening, after the news, my daughter said get dressed, we are going out..and her Dad, my ex husband, a man I’ve barely spoken to in 20 years, except about the kids..arrived and picked us up and took us to a special screening of The Man Who Fell To Earth, and played Bowie all the way into the theatre and back, but we didn’t exchange a word. Anyone who knows me just simply knows that as boring, uninteresting and plain as I am, I exist on the Plane of Bowie. Best friend I ever had.
A fair comparison in my estimation; both were talented showmen of a high degree, and both were diminished by their Pride. (But we may overlook what God may not. . .) It is interesting that we lost both of them in a single year.
@@themaggattack And peppers. Allegedly he ate those to get as much nutrition as he could with eating less to nothing. Milk has fat and lactose, so sugar too. Idk about peppers that much because I personally despite them, but I guess they are good? Doesn't make it better though. The coke most definitely also had an affect on appetite.
This song changes my life every time I whisper it to myself while walking or riding my bike, remembering what a sandwich bar was. First fell in love with it aged about 12. 35 years on ... still in love.
It's hard to believe I've been on earth this long not knowing about this song and video. It's really a musical and cinematic masterpiece of epic proportion..
I think the credit for the very unique "look" of this great film goes to Nicholas Roeg. He was both a cinematographer and a director. Some of his cinematographer credits include Truffaut's Farenheit 451 and Far From the Madding Crowd (a great film based on the Thomas Hardy book). Director credits include films such as Performance (with Mick Jagger), Don't Look Now (considered a masterpiece of cinema) and The Witches (based on the book by Roald Dahl). A man who definitely had a unique vision.
Dear Mortal, i think this is the most magical reworking of a film my small brain ever saw. it brings out so many meanings and connections this song makes me feel in my heart, which is to say my intuition loves what it loves. very special. very special when people do things soooooooooooo well. you beauty. thank you x
Yes, this is terrific. I now implicitly associate this song with the film, which is really odd when watching the actual film while not hearing this song. Thank you so much.
There is... you should just take your time to look in other places other than vevo or bands/artists managed by great corporations. You should also have patience and attention to listen to their words and reflect in the possible meaning, you know... is too easy to say "this is great" when they became known and several analysis have been made...
Yeah culture now is washed up and ghetto. Newretrowave is trying to revive it. Look into it. Drab Majesty, Trevor Something, Electric Youth, George Ergemlidze.👍👍👍👍
Bauhaus/ Pete Murphy were superb and heavily influenced by Bowie like many artists in the late 70s/ early 80s. I like the idea of this video to the song as I love both artists but theres no real connection.
JOHN PAUL Jones : No real connection? Research what Peter Murphy has to say about Bowie. If you listen to the lyrics it actually fits very well with the film paired with this song here.
Shedonista Shamanatrix Shedonista, I know Murphy was significantly influenced by Bowie (which is obvious anyway) and yes I think the video compliments well. But it can also be seen in the context of dark narcissism/ nihillistic fears/insecurities. This is what marks the dark glam genre(Bauhaus werent goths in the cliched sense) as an art form with different interpretations. Good thoughts.
JOHN PAUL Jones : Thank you for your intelligent reply! I said what I did based off many interviews I've read from waaaaay back when where Murphy cited Bowie as a Mentor and great inspiration etc. Good thoughts indeed and back at ya, from one "OG Goth/Elder Goth" to another. 💋
2020 lockdown got me like... music, music, more music. I need to hear it all, all those making it... I need to hear it. Keeping my sanity, with the soul of sound. All their passion, all of it. May 2021, be a year of hugs, and life more normal, but we will never be in the before time. We are evolving, and it's so hard. All I ever wanted, was everything.
Actually my preferred way to see this film. This look of this film is extraordinary, thanks to cinematographer Tony Richmond. The dialogue and other aspects of the film are lackluster as compared to the cinematography. Visuals of Bowie by Richmond with great music played over. Gold.
+Armand Rossi I also read that he went into remission in 2015 but it returned in the October of that year, at which point he was told to face the inevitable. :(
+sjrn24 apparently i've only had one and a half donut today. i broke up one and a half stick. he's only one and a half feet ta.. er.. ok that one works.
I want the future to remember the present but also the past. Because after all, i love our world's history, all the things we've been through, creation, until now, forever stuck in every human's mind, we made this world a beautiful place.
This songs helps me get up, and keep pushing through the day. Thanks you so much for uploading it. Bauhaus and Bowie are a perfect combination of perfection. 🖤
Bowie’s face and body was like a heavenly android or some kind of very aesthetically appealing Japanese anime character. Son of God he was, perhaps like son of Zeus, half mortal half divine! Bless his soul
Very beautiful video and song, the comment section perfectly illustrates what I loathe about the world. Many sweet good hearted people appreciating your work and bravely saying what it made them feel or how either the film or song, the artists involved in either, or the pairing of the two affected them. Then the loathesome, petty know it all's and dream crushers with nothing better to do then correct them or tell them they are stupid and their feelings worthless, neither Bowie nor Bauhaus would be impressed and such behavior is neither brave nor of value. Anyways thanks for posting this gem.
Bowie gives us all, his special ones, a little piece of him, rare...unexpected art, music, emotions... I just simply fell in love since the first hearing from him and Bauhaus and all together.. and there's still a lot of room for plenty more like them...
This is life! Nothing more, and nothing less! As a painter! This is much more than I can deliver! It's visual movement and audio! So I guess I sit silent, until Seen by someone or people that can hear from their eyes! and feel the colors which they see! All and all I can relate to the complexity. ❤
We met the director of Man Who Fell on campus. Nicholas was so nice to answer our questions about the film. Candy Clark was there too. Also, very friendly. Our Teacher was amazing -to get Mr. Roeg to visit us in 1977.
This is such a wonderful piece of art, it really made me realize how much I love this man and Bauhaus. Greetings to your galaxy, dear White Duke. You will always be missed 🌠
:'( and then ppl are always complaining about kids who write that they wish they wouldve been born earlier.. i mean, why the fuck not? there is so much we missed and that we will never expierience by ourselves. its just super sad!
A famous Brazilian writer said : "People don't die, they get enchanted." But the ones who are already enchanted in life as David Bowie become eternal unforgettable legends.
A beautifully graphic tribute for the enigmatic David Bowie, one of my favorite aliens and the mesmerizing film, The Man Who Fell To Earth! A fascinating masterpiece almost beyond comprehension, it must be experienced not understood. It is so brutally real, disturbingly so. Amazing video, I love it.
Gave me gooseflesh. Very interesting critique of society and the all-encompassing greed that can seep into Man's thoughts in such seemingly innocuous manners.
Hi! Just dropping a friendly thread of advice into the dark, empty well that is your brain. Is is for singular nouns! It's not cats is running down the street; It's cats are running down the street. Think of this sentence (if you can) the next time you try and write a sentence.
