Motorcycling journalist Paul Blezard extols the benefits of feet-forwards (FF) motorcycling in this episode of Top Gear from spring 1988. The piece features interviews with Malcolm Newell, Royce Creasey and Arnold Wagner.
Pete Lawrence's bike is still alive and well, and living in Scotland. It's had a recent repaint, and a few mechanical upgrades. Still a brilliant piece of design, and execution, and it still gives me great pleasure to ride.
A change in how people think about two wheels is overdue. Recumbent bicycles have been a low cost platform for testing the idea. I could easily see small engine scooters being the most likely to take advantage of this concept.
There are not any relevant chunks cut out. What was cut out was all car stuff plus an item about motorcycle leg protectors. This 'FF edit' contains the intro and the outro and two items from the original programme which ran consecutively, both about Feet First motorcycles.
I remember fighting that preposterous monstrous legislation. Thank heaven it never got passed (mainly due to the fact that in the end it was discovered that stopping the legs from moving forward in an impact transferred all the weight to the HEAD!). Imagine them bringing in a law like "All vehicles to be electric by 2030" nowadays - there'd be OUTRAGE.......... .......Awwww booger. Another one to fight.
What legislation? The video starts to talk about it, then cuts to the response from motorcyclists, without saying what they responded to? Also, it’s not all vehicles need to be electric by 2030, it’s 2035, and hydrogen and synthetic fuel will also be permitted (though how a synthetic fuel vehicle is different from a petrol one I don’t know, it’s chemically identical, so any vehicle that can run on synthetic fuel, and is therefore allowed to be sold, can run on petrol, and therefore isn’t). Battery motorcycles won’t take off without advancements in battery technology, but I’m hopeful for hydrogen and synthetic fuel.
@@HALLish-jl5mo In the '90's legislation was being brought forward to fit all motorcycles with "leg protectors". They did mention it in the video (if I recall). Thankfully the bill was defeated with help from groups like M.A.G. Regardless of the EXACT date, the inference is the same - ICE vehicles sales ban coming up soon.
