Carrying on from part one where I got the RHS header done, now it's time to keep going with the even more complex LHS and the cross over pipe.
So sit back, grab a drink and enjoy some more in-depth fab work on this awesome turbo manifold

Stumbled across your channel. It's good to see old school home brewed turbo conversions and fabrication, not just bolting on some bits.

Sounds like some pantera influence in the music. Nothin better good music and turbos. Good work man

One thing you could do is heat the headers to remove welding stresses, at around 620 degrees C for thirty minutes should do the trick or 4 hours at 300 degrees C say in a normal oven. That should help remove the formation of micro cracks. Of course once its operating on the engine you will get higher temps , but you want to remove the stress before its bolted up so it wont twist and move around in the first couple of uses. It is also a good thing to do after bead blasting, for a bit less time, to stop skin related stress cracks. Good luck. P.S. leave the welding backbone frame on.

Awesome job man came up mint as I know the struggles of making these having just finnished my own, keen to see how it turns out as you went a slightly different way to what I did... keep up the good work 😊

Love watching time lapse fabrication. Love the look of those headers. Can you take out material between the merge pipe and other runners to provide a bit more cross over flow between both sides and allow both sides to be vented

Hey mate. I plan on turboing my 1gr-fe and fabricating everything myself. Just wonder the best source for all the steam pipes.

Great video again! With the curved section of pipe for the waste gate is there a trick to cutting the base of the pipe to match the curve to the pipe you're welding it to?
@boostedbuiltgarage
@boostedbuiltgarage 5 лет назад
There are a few tricks, i can kinda just do it all by eye but there are some good building blocks to doing saddle cuts like that on the fabricator series RU-vid channel

So, the wastegate only works on 2 out of 6 cylinders?
@boostedbuiltgarage
@boostedbuiltgarage 5 лет назад
On 3, the dynamics will obviously change once there's more volume all under pressure. But won't know til I try. Worst case Ill have to run another gate🤷‍♂️

I’ve noticed all the manifolds for turbo V6 motors have the cross over going around the front. But could you have it bending over the top of the bell housing around the back of the motor? Or does it effect the flow?
@boostedbuiltgarage
@boostedbuiltgarage 4 года назад
You can do that. Lots of people have had them going under the back too. My first thought was actually how you said, but I have too much stuff at the back and against firewall so it would be a major heat affected zone. The front works well cause there's space and doesn't heat anything really. Plus the added airflow across it
@xCliffs
@xCliffs 4 года назад
Boosted & Built Garage yeah I thought about the heat issue. Probably wouldn’t be good aye, but would look a lot neater if you could work it out.

Could you not put the waste gate on the other bank? (For a little more room) Or would you end up with massive over boost issues, being so far from the turbo? Also, if so could you not tune it out?
@boostedbuiltgarage
@boostedbuiltgarage 5 лет назад
You could, but like you said it's a bit far from the turbine, but it would still probably work. With things like that, you just don't know til you try 💁‍♂️
@therealfatboy1116
@therealfatboy1116 5 лет назад
I run a turbo v8 with log manifolds. Right at the end of the logs I have a wastegate for each and have never had an over boost issue so can definitely be done
@abc-bm8pl
@abc-bm8pl 5 лет назад
@jvx89 running a single gate on the crossover pipe would give better boost control than the current setup of running a single gate in the collector of just one bank. There is much room for improvement here.

maybe blank the wastegate hole you have then use the turbo housing like you said because you have gone this far why not make it best it can be..
@boostedbuiltgarage
@boostedbuiltgarage 5 лет назад
Didn't want to use turbo housing cause I might change size, also I want it to be stealthy and also be able to have my turbo blanket on it. So I'll see how it goes I guess

Curious as to why you've stuck with the Buick 3.8 v6 as opposed to upgrading to a ecotec 3.8 v6 ?
@boostedbuiltgarage
@boostedbuiltgarage 5 лет назад
Because everything is built around the Buick. There's not really any difference, especially anything that warrants changing
@afterlightdesigns

Buick also has a lower compression ratio for more boosty goodness
