I built this bird feeding station about 10 years ago and since then I keep modifying it to improve it, this version is probably version 3.
So far I have had no bears or squirrels able to get to the bird food, I haven't been feeding the birds lately because black oil sunflower seed around by us is very expensive, and we have 10+ cats and the birds wouldn't stand a chance.
Below will be a list of some of the items I used for this project, when I bought the materials for this job everything was much cheaper back then, you might find alternatives.
Just a note, sometimes I use this feeder pole to hang my hummingbird feeders up if I have troubles with bears coming up by our window and pulling the feeders down for the sweet nectar.
Thank you for watching, we really appreciate it!

There's a store in Massachusetts that sells such a pole for over $1000, but without the pulley system to make refilling easy. And then it has to be shipped (although I could pick up, since I live in NH). Their refilling the feeders solution was to use long painting pole extension to lift the full bird feeder to the stationary arms 12 feet up. The long lever arm of that pole and a 5 lb feeder (what I'm guessing your triple tube feeders weigh will fully loaded) would make that a challenging chore to refill. I like your pulley system much better. The plastic pipe to hide the ropes from ascending squirrels is also genius!

Thank You! We appreciate you watching and commenting:) As for the weight of the bird feeders I have forgotten but my best guess would be when fully loaded and three tubes it weighs about 9 pounds, and that is with black oil sunflower seed. And yes that plastic pipe works great over the ropes otherwise the squirrels would just climb the ropes:) Once again Thank You for watching:)

I had something similar to this. Didn't take the bears long to figure out that if they ripped through the rope with their Claws, the feeder came crashing down for them. Hope you've had better luck.

Sorry to hear of your bear issues:( Lucky for us we have had no problems, the most they would do is stand on their hind legs and try to reach the feeders but it is to tall for them, the ropes are pretty well hidden on ours. Over the years as the animals defeated our things we built we thought of modifications to defeat them. So as of right now we are winning:) Thank you for watching our videos, we appreciate it.

Thank you for this! I've had a bear coming around and so far it's bear 3, me 0. With this I may stand a chance at beating him!

We had the same problem before I built this feeder, The bottom of the feeders are higher then a bear can reach, we seen them try years ago but they never were able to reach the feeders and as of yet we win:)

The squirrels here in Tx would shimmy up the pole and stretch from the pole to the feeder and eat away. The little ones would jump from pole to feeder and sit there and eat. Or maybe you have no squirrels? Bears get them??
@thisoldmobilehomeinthewood8434
Wow! Yea here in the northland we have tons of squirrels and black bears but since I built that set up and may I add many a trials and errors till I got to the point where they gave up and leaved it alone, the birds are messy and there is quite a few seeds that fall to the ground and the squirrels seem to be just happy with that. We have nothing close enough for them to jump from:) You sound like you have some daredevil squirrels:) Thank you for watching we really appreciate it.

@@thisoldmobilehomeinthewood8434 So what stops the squirrels from simply climbing the pole and reaching to the bird feeder and chowing down? My feeder was ~1.5 ft from the pole and they had no problem reaching it. I tried a few things to keep them off the pole but everything failed.
@thisoldmobilehomeinthewood8434
@@fredve3984 Our set up we don't have anything within 15 to 20 feet from the bird feeder pole, so they have to jump from the ground and with our PVC pipe covering the cords there is no way for them to shimmy up the pole, oh they have tried many a times to jump up and slide down, run and jump and slide down or fall off, so far they have never made it, follow my setup for height and design and keep anything at least 15 feet from the bird feeder pole so they can't jump from that. And be sure if you use the rope and pulley system I do to cover the cords like I did or they will just climb up the ropes:) As you know they are crafty, very crafty, to me it was a challenge I took on to beat them, and so far I have:) But do I believe that some day they will beat it, sure, them little creatures are crafty but until then, Squirrels 0 - Me 1 - Good luck and thanks for commenting:)

I'd like to see an update to verify this the feeders were safe from squirrels and bears after a full season.

Sorry I didn’t see this post earlier, if you look in our recent videos you will see the feeders intact, our black bear activity has been real low for some reason, we are lucky to see a bear wander through once or twice during the summer but never really stop to eat anything. Thanks for your post and I apologize for not seeing this before.
