Great video. "Sing like you speak" should be interpreted as singing with the same lack of inhibition and emotional freedom as you speak with. Like you said people often can speak in dynamic ways with a wide pitch range and various inflections but when they go to sing their mind goes into "singing mode" and a lot of the good speaking mechanics of their voice get walled off once they are in that "mode". Singing is really passionate dynamic speech while adhering to musical rules. People often think that "singing like you speak" means singing in a very dull monotone way, except its not because people typically don't speak like that especially if they are speaking about something they are passionate about. I guess the hard part is using your voice in a similar free way that you speak with while still staying within musical constraints. This is of course all still a work in progress for me as well.

I have just found your channel and its came at a great time. The way you describe singing and the journey that is happening as you climb the mountainside is so intriguing. You got a sub from me.

Nice. God bless ya man. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. The simpler we keep it the better-and when we need to focus on something particularly, we attack the problem and move on to the next. If we pray that The Lord guides us, he will surely show us the way. If it ain’t for Him, singing is meaningless anyway. God bless you grateful man -Ronnie

Thank you Carl for another very insightful video! If you are accepting ideas for other videos... I would love to see a list of all the different drills/scales you do, with a good example of each; and the purpose of each; and what to feel or listen for in each. It would really help to develop my daily training sessions... like you say, we are not getting this info anywhere else😊

Hello Carl. First of all, thanks for putting these lessons out there for us who can't afford it, and all the great work that you do. I have a problem. I'm having trouble in my first bridge, specifically in the c4 to f4 area, and above that, my sound becomes too "whiney" (I wonder why this happens) and I'm unable to maintain the same timbre of my voice that I have when I'm singing lower, I heard other vocal coaches said to open the vocal track more, and when I try it does sound a bit better but I feel the resonance becomes too trapped in the back of my throat, and my sound becomes less bright, somehow weak and I lose some of the bright ping and become a bit strained (it feels like I fall back in my throat) My second problem is a tension problem, my larynx falls a bit out of place (I know the larynx isn't supposed to be completely fixed and moveless) but my larynx moves too much, and I suspect it might be a problem with my tongue or the muscles under my chin that are moving it. Do you have any tips? I would greatly appreciate them or if you direct me to some of your videos explaining this. This is important to me because I'm looking for a stable timbre in my voice that sound beautiful and can be reliable and if my larynx is moving like crazy then I cannot accomplish this. I'm also saving some money to be able to get a vocal lesson with you, so I'll send you an email when I save enough Thank you

Anyone else find about cord closure from these videos and it’s changed everything. I’m just trying to work out the difference between cord closure and focusing energy in the mask kinda confusing 😷

Clark,I can't do chest voice above g3 if I keep raising it,it will get me to mixed voice on a4 but,I can do mixed voice above c4 without any pressure and if I do scale,it sounds connected but for example if I do it from c3 bring it till g3 and then will jump on a4 but without break into falsetto So on my opinion my problem is my chest voice limits are above g3 below c4 and for that I have to do it as mix voice but my mix voice not enough closure to do it because when I bring it down it will go to vocal fry or I’ve made good squeeze to my falsetto or head voice so I don’t break into breathy falsetto or maybe i don’t learn enough about passagio Please help me Clark,I’ve been searching it for so long..

I love this video man. For me, I think Ive started grabbing in the wrong way less, and focus on the coordination of my cords more. I definitely feel a change in how I shape and approach sound, I no longer sing with a ceiling or by forcing my voice into a mould, but let my voice do what it wants to while still hitting the note in a connected voice, This has given me a feeling of unlimitedness in some ways, and I know, or at least strongly feel that its not falsetto, but I struggle with adding power to the sound. I have two versions of my mix/upper voice. The one that is connected to my lower voice but can almost feel like a whisper sometimes, especially in the passagio, and one that is a fuller cord coordination but is most easily accessed with much higher notes, I don't know if thats mix, but its very loud and resonant, has that zipping, buzzing sensation and is brought on by what feels like a glottal attack, to do it I must be onsetting with a vowel most of the time. Im trying to bridge these two modalities in my mix, I come here because I wonder if Im going in the right direction. May have to set up a lesson with you! Thank you again for all the information, it has been a key in my life

i find that the process in improving in singing is the toughest to pin down of any ability ive ever developed. you can hit all right notes and suck so so bad. i think a lot of what pros do so well is handle words.

im definitely a hard case, have been all my life. whereas people like my brother he taught himself how to sing one summer and it just came so easy to him, higher notes and all. it kinda sucks because im the one that's always wanted to be the artist, had to grow up with family members telling me to stop singing and everything because they would get annoyed of me trying to teach myself lol

Hi, Please review this song by Lata Mangeshkar. She started her musical journey in the year 1943. Her career spans over 7 decades. At the time of this concert she was around 69 years old and she is now 91 years old and still singing occasionally. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-d20ViB16SCY.html You may also want to review her song from another concert in the year 2003 and she was then 72 years old. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nBMXwgw7tbc.html Lata Mangeshkar is the Queen of Indian music and popularly known as the Nightingale of India. Many thanks 🙏 to you Carl! That was the best 9:36 min. I’m singing better already, because I’m just letting go of the what if’s, releasing the weight and the tension of all the thought that goes into trying to make it happen in an mechanical way and just letting it out MAN!! The easier you let everything flow- the better the cords can do their job naturally. That being said - the vocal fold muscles need to be strong in order to do it on their own 💪
