Recorded during pre-concert rehearsal at Torroella de Montgri April 17 2014 . Special thanks to www.jorquerapianos.com/ for one of the best pianos I ever encountered
I learned to play this piece but I did not like it much until I heard this rendition by Valentina Lisitsa. Now that I know what it is supposed to sound like, I love it and I am inspired to practice more.
I just discovered this pianist. Is it normal to watch her videos over and over again, obsessively? I'm deeply in awe of her artistic performance on these Beethoven Sonatas.
I love how Beethoven baits us twice about the recapitulation : 3:20 "ok the first theme comes back, the end comes soon" 3:26 "nah actually it's more development" 4:13 "ok NOW it's the recapitulation." 4:20 "see? it's the whole theme this time" ... 4:27 "or is it ?" 4:37 "MORE DEVELOPMENT"
If you know beethoven a little, you can tell when is a recapitulation and when not, because beethoven tends to do an intense dominant or subdominant harmony before.
The ground theme is amazing, he couldn't have left it out only for beginning, end, and central 10-13 second development. The whole piece is built upon it, changing it up, but it flows so perfectly, he couldn't have possibly not done what he has with it.
When I was younger me and other piano students always used to listen to Lisitsa's playing ,every time we searched up a piece we were currently studying ,Lisitsa would pop up the first . Nowadays it doesnt show up that much (so youtube should do a better job!) , but yeah she became our role model (she still is)
I have watched Valentina's videos for years, and they never fail to bring tears to my eyes. The lightness and grace with which she plays is one of a kind. I have loved Beethoven since childhood; in my first few years, I'm told, I would cry if my parents played me any other music. And when I heard Valentina play his music in adulthood, I thought: "This is how these songs are supposed to be played. This is what Beethoven meant when he wrote these notes." Truly amazing, Valentina Lisitsa.
Some Damn Author One of the many reasons why I love Beethoven's music. One moment everything is alright and pretty, and the next moment the Earth is burning.
More than 1100 people disliked this flawless interpretation! It's beyond me why would someone would dislike something so perfect played, unless they have either hearing impairment, mental issues or they are just plain stupid.
@@elizabethwolf492 what is it about classical music? Is it inborn to love it or cultural to resist it? Beethoven etc filled my car during my driving days, wonderful! Now l am stuck with my driver’s choice which l find unbearable ~ except ABBA now l do like that! But not rap! Now for me, that does suck!
Tastes differ. Every artist transfers his own personality. Some may reject such an attitude. As for me I adore Valentina and understand what she says by playing.
I don't know why emotions are stirred so deeply when I listen to her I think it's because I'm so proud of humanity for creating music like this it brings tears to my eyes
Her hands are like birds... A truly beautiful performance. When I close my eyes I can picture the autumn wind catching the leaves and whirling them around. And I listen to thrash metal, mostly.
Valentina Lisitsa’s playing allowed me to enjoy Beethoven. Before her I thought it was too bombastic. With her gentle transitions finally I see the genius.
Gracias Valentina! La Divina Valentina.
A statement so unreasonably broad not to be considered seriously, unless a thorough list of the names of all other possible performers can be submitted.
Beethoven, a compositional genius. What I admire about him is that despite losing his hearing and eventually becoming deaf, he did not allow that to stop him composing some of the best and biggest musical pieces we know and love today. Pieces such as The Tempest, Fur Elise and Moonlight Sonata.
Whenever i hear her playing i get the feeling she's an unstoppable force. She's like the wind, and her fingers are floating an dancing, gently blowing, sometimes howling thats the way i feel it
Allegretto of Beethoven's - this is a true masterpiece of the composer, an incredibly beautiful work, performed with great taste and the highest professionalism. . .
This is my #1 favorite Beethoven piece, and I like this version more than any other I've heard. She emphasizes all the right parts, it's just so DRAMATIC.
Have a listen to Irina Lankova. Equally good technically, at least, but a completely different kind of pianist. Or Nicolas Economou who is sadly no longer with us but was absolutely brilliant. Some of the kids, literally, from the Far East are pretty spectacular
Ms. Lisitsa is one of the great Beethoven interpreters of our day. I think was she was greatly influenced by Sviatoslav Richter's playing. Her performance combines strength, power, and lyricism- an artistic feat.
I was taught that one can tell truly tell the skill of a musician by the ability of playing well piano (the dynamic that is). By that standard you are one of my alltime favourites, no matter the instrument. So light, so clear yet so energetic. Really looking forward to hearing you in my hometown soon!
It does not matter how long you have been living your life... One day, at the very deep of your night dream, you suddenly wake up because you have heard in you night dream this music... At that moment you will realize that you have been born as a human... Thank you, Valentina...
Praise God. I'm learning this piece and with this recording I can see different methods of how it played along with others. Thanks so much for uploading this.
Beethoven is the best for me. He was churning out metal riffs centuries before it even became a genre. The guy was an absolute monster and it's hard to comprehend his magnitude. As for the performance, absolutely stunning. Loved it.
Ben Edwards Yep, they are called “great” for a reason. When someone asked one of the jazz greats (Coltrane, maybe) in an interview who had influenced him musically, the first name he mentioned was Johann Sebastian Bach.
If you like that "metal riffs" style, try Shostakovich, The 4th movement of 5 symphony (bernstein version) the 2nd movement of symphony 10 and 2nd movement of symphony 11.
@@sevastyan5880 I always get so upset when people refer to a piece of classical music as to a "song"!!! It blows my mind!!! 🤢 This is not Jennifer Lopez, jeez!! 👿
I agree with the comments, I want to slap my husband every time he says “how’s that SONG coming along” in reference to me learning pieces ... ffs people 😅 Just for the record, I want to slap him, but I don’t. In case some people are sensitive
One of the keys to playing this correctly, and she does it to perfection and beyond, is ensure that you are playing in 3/8 time as written and not feeling it like 2/4 time in triplets. This is accomplished by placing a slight accent on the 3rd beat of each 3/8 measure which is more difficult to do than falling into the triplet trap.
I studied as a fine artist and within that field of study repertoire, I also listened to classical music. Through the madness in school I was going through at the time, a good solid basing in classical music was one of the few things that kept me centered as well as sane. I journeyed to a well known library one day and went through the music encyclopedias of the great past composers. One of the issues that came into my thinking then, is how were these greats able to craft such fantastic symphonies and other musical scores without going nuts themselves? The sheet music scores of some of these pieces looked so confusing. I never forget that time spent in the large music section of the library. I feel that we all live by the dualities of both visual as well as sound variations. "This helps us grown as a peoples". When I listen to you, I am taken back to just how that particular composer wanted to convey as an idea what they thought up and simply said so by their artistic flare and said it. To-u Nicely played. I noticed that you've got you sandals on, "The barefoot contessa", Thanks you so very much. I adore your music and your gift to reach out. Notes on Beethoven. He had a condition which was proably present at birth. I've heard that all the while in his career, that his ear cannels were progressively closing. It is proably estimated that this is why some of his symphonies are so loud. He proably learned to hear with the soundwave coming to the meat of the skin of his face, in order to hear and apricate exactly what he was doing, conduction wise.
Oh my Goodness Valentina! This is the way I wanna see and listen all the MASTERPIECES with a prodigious Talent of yours. Every single note played with mastership. This is bliss! More videos like this, please!
Beethoven is my favorite composer and this is all-time favorite piece for piano, which says a lot... and this is played magnificently! I am currently learning to play it myself although it's challenging (I usually play easier pieces) but this is the one piece I hope I'll be able to play one day. No matter how much time or effort it takes! Thank you Beethoven and Valentina Lisitsa for this video and the inspiration!
Like Pollinni she hits the right notes for a start and she does it in a very musical way. Its the natural flow that I like in her performance. Thank you You made my day
HA¡ Bethoveen would slap her on the face ,she thinks she is so great she is going faster, she is not the composer, she is just an interpreter she forgaten hersel and ignorants accept her stupidity
@@AlexGonzalez-iq5wj A comment full of hate and spite. Just what the world needs right now. She's just a pianist trying to make a living. And by the way Beethoven was 5 foot 4. A slap would have got his ass kicked!!! And I don't like being called an ignorant, Watch your comments sir you just never know who your talking too.
@@tpiskor I never called you ignorant, she acts like she is the composer of the song, she is going too fast ,and if Beethoven was 5 feet who gives? still he created this song not her.
Yeah I'm not really into metal but love metal arrangements of classical songs. Dr. Viossy's Paganini Caprice No. 24 is a fine example. Let's headbang on my friend!
By far, the best version/interpretation of this beautiful Beethoven song on RU-vid! I listen to it several times a week! Check out her street music version of the Appassionata 3rd movement on an upright! Crazy good as well :) She amazes no matter what she plays!
There is nothing wrong with you Paul Simenson. I have been obsessed by Valentina Lisitsa's pianistic brilliance for years. She makes it look so easy but trust me she works like crazy to enhance her God-given gifts. Obsess on!
Gracias a ella y a Ludwig.
