After hearing a sermon about John 18:5, John 8:58, and John 8:24 one Sunday ago; I was inspired to write a narrative poem with elements of lyric poetry that I wrote about those verses.
"Jesus of Nazareth," they replied. "I am he," Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.) - John 18:5 (NIV)
"Very truly I tell you," Jesus answered, "before Abraham was born, I am!" - John 8:58 (NIV)
"I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am he, you will indeed die in your sins." - John 8:24 (NIV)
I thought my poem would make a great Classic Country Music song. Since I’m neither a singer nor a composer, I used AI to create the music and vocals. Admittedly, my vocals might not be "singing material" and could even remind you of Roseanne Barr’s national anthem! But the essence and message of the poem are what truly matter.
HERE IS MY POEM TITLE: “Before Abraham Was, I Am”
HERE IS MY LYRICS THAT I WROTE:
(Verse 1)
I heard the preacher on a Sunday,
Talkin’ 'bout a man so bold,
He said “Before Abraham was, I Am”
Just like the Bible told.
In John 8:58, He stood tall and proud,
Said, "I’ve been here before time,"
He’s the Lord, He’s the truth, He’s the way and the light,
And He’ll be till the end of the line.
(Chorus)
Oh, I am the “I Am,”
He’s the one who holds my hand,
From the stars in the sky to the promised land,
He’s the I Am in every word.
In the silence of the night, when you feel you’re alone,
Remember, He’s the rock where you can stand,
He said, “Before Abraham was, I Am.”
(Verse 2)
In the garden, they came for Jesus,
With torches and chains in the dark,
He said, “I am He,” in John 18:5,
And the soldiers fell apart.
From the cross to the grave, then He rose again,
Just like He always said,
He’s the one who’ll break your chains, my friend,
And raise you from the dead.
(Bridge)
When the road gets rough and the days are long,
When your heart’s cryin’ out in a lonesome song,
Turn to John 8:24, where He says it plain,
“Believe in me, I’ll take your pain.”
(Outro)
Yeah, He said, “Before Abraham was, I Am…”
