Andy or anyone.... I love traveling. I am at a point where companies are constantly paying 100k and really like me, but 3-4 weeks off isn't enough. So I usually quite and then go travel. I'm a chef/dietitian and traveling the world for 3-4 months, at a time, is like my religion. I love the experience, getting new culinary ideas and just living life. The questions is, how do I negotiate getting 3 months unpaid travel time each year? I currently work a lot of contract jobs, which allows me to travel within USA, but I wonder if I could be a bench player for a large food service company like compass group, etc. without having to travel to crazy places within USA once I return from abroad. I feel like I have to make a serious decision about life soon, but all I can think about is COVID ending and doing 6wks Korea, 2 months Japan, then taking a 2 night ferry boat over to china and then trans Siberian railroad up through mongolia to moscow. That's where I'm at in life....

Hey Andy, what defines the “end”? What specific event between your communication with your new employer marks the end
@andylacivita
@andylacivita 3 года назад
When they tell you they are not hiring you. Also, if sine time has past And they’ve been terrible enough not to correspond with you to be explicit they are not moving forward with you, that also constitutes the end. The problem with this is you don’t know when to throw in the towel. The trick is to make sure you ask them what their timeframe is on making a decision and when they will contact you. You need to know this in order to make the determination they decided to move on without contacting you.

"negotiate at the end" you mean when they give you job offer? when "the end' is?
@andylacivita
@andylacivita Год назад
The end is when you actually receive a written job offer. The next best time is if they want to give you an offer but WILL NOT put it in writing until you have a discussion.

I agree with every word. I was in a situation where I was making a big jump to a role that was new to me and thus my experience was lacking. The salary was very good for me and so I didn't negotiate that. I negotiated other things. Would you negotiate salary even if you're very green and are happy with it? Keep in mind I have always negotiated salary in every job previously.

What i say si that i want to look at the entire package including benefits before negotiating anything. Another tactic that i use is that i pit the old company benefits that i like against the new one. I have 4 weeks at my current employer. I am not moving for 3. Ect ect ect

Just to clarify. Shouldn't negotiations occur when the employer makes an offer to hire you? Why would you negotiate benefits if you are not even sure you will be hired? Second questions- once hired do you let the company know about an already scheduled vacation?
@andylacivita
@andylacivita 3 года назад
Yes in your first question. That is usually the case. However, it’s not necessarily negotiating the typical benefits. There are other benes that are more flexibilities such as wok from home that some people feel they need to know sooner because if they cannot, they don’t want to proceed. Just an example but you get the idea. On the vacation, if you already have it scheduled, mention it BEFORE you start. As your negotiating simply make them aware of it. It’ll be okay with 99% of employers.

@@andylacivita Is it good to give a salary range at the beginning, so you know whether it's worth it to apply and go through the interviews in the first place?
@andylacivita
@andylacivita Год назад
I would not. I’d ignore whatever salary info they give you and wow them. Hash it out at the end.

It doesn’t make sense on why you get ghosted when you give them your resume and they tell you that they really like what you create for the brand. The employers are jealous so I obviously have potential.
