Thank you very that I now understand better, I have one question though, in the basking area, if I measure that area with a temp gun what is the ideal temperature there please ?

This video was so interesting and helpful! Especially the part about temperature/radiation explained so much to me (I was always wondering how to get a temperature gradient in a 4 feet enclosure). Now I feel so stupid having wrote to you about hot end/cool end 😅🙈 anyways you live and learn and I‘m super grateful for your videos!!

Hello, got a new bearded dragon who is 9 months. He seems to like putting his belly against the glass in his hot spot area and even sleeps like that. Is that normal?

Another great video... I don't know what's harder... learning for the first time or relearning and breaking old habits based on outdated husbandry. Learning a lot. This knowledge is really taking the care to highest levels.

Can you tell us what is the best calcium powder to use please you get different information from different people on if the calcium powder should contain vitamin D3 or not its so confusing 😔

It doesn’t really matter, you’d struggle to overdose a dragon, you’d have to shovel it into them. As long as it’s not a multivitamin it doesn’t matter to me.

Curious about the led lighting. Any recommendations or can you tell me what a safe wattage to put in a dome would be?

Gee this turns my whole set up upside down. I usually have my probe up the hot end and the cool end is usually around 25c. It's usually about 31-32c midway, and (roughly) 41-43 at the basking spot. I'm going to have a play around with your method this week and see how it goes. I have never liked the fact that the thermostat dims the bulbs. I want it nice and bright. I may have to take a bulb out if I do it your way, as I have 2x75w halogens, and I'm thinking it might get too hot with both in there. Maybe I will switch them out for some lower powered ones though because I do like that two bulbs give a larger basking area.

I've always done it that way too for years, what size is your enclosure and what material?

Are those thermometers midway near lights or near objects or walls that can be radiating warmth ?

@@ReptilesandResearchI have one zoomed min/max thermometer in the middle of the enclosure about half way up and the probe is near the wall. I measure the 'cool end' with an IR thermometer and point it in the shade at a few different spots. The basking spot temps aren't an exact measurement, but I have the thermostat probe on the wall near the lights, but the thermostat temp is set to 45c as I'm aware that the probe is not giving the true temp readout. I combine this with the IR temp gun and a traditional glass thermometer out of direct light to attempt to get a ballpark temperature. Im re-watching this video now and this morning I took the probe out completely just to see how hot it gets in there. The lights are much brighter and my boy Kilton was basking up there still. So clearly it's not too hot for him. It did push the min/max thermometer up about 3 degrees C. He seems to be enjoying it so far. It's only been about an hour and a half or so but he seems a bit more active maybe. I'll keep tweeking it, and I'm still thinking about maybe swapping the basking bulbs to 2x50W instead of two 75W's or maybe one of each.

@@ReptilesandResearch what basking bulbs do you use in your 4x2x2's and what temp to you have your thermostat set with the probe on the 'cool side'? Oh and by the way, it's been two days since I changed the set up based on this video and Kilton has been so much happier! His colour is nice and bright and he's got a lot more energy! ⚡ How much do you know about bearded dragons colour changing? I've noticed when he is happy he is nice and bright and yellow. When he's not so happy he is a more dull greyish type colour. I know they change colour to regulate heat, but it also seems to be related to mood. At least it seems that way to me. Nobody seems to talk about this though. Search results return nothing but "did you know bearded dragons can change the colour of their beard when they're angry!?". Any chance of doing a video on this at some stage if possible?

I use a T5 arcadia in both my tanks (4x2x2)and use the arcadia basking d3 bulbs which are fantastic and literally bring your animals alive!, in my zen habitat I use a 160w because the cage is so open at the top and its top mounted its hard to create a good heat and good spot however in my wood enclosure which is mounted inside I use a 100w, problem is in wood enclosures is I had to cut more vent holes and use a twin computer fan to get the cool side to mid 20° and the hot side to high 30° as the temps were to much and the air circulation poor. I wouldn't have another wood enclosure, pvc open mesh top is by far the best I've found, glass tanks are for fish.
@intensecutn
@intensecutn 10 месяцев назад
Going off the advice he's giving in this video, the wood enclosure sounds like it would be the better option.

@@intensecutn yeah very confusing for me I found wood enclosures are a nightmare for monitoring temps properly and my dragons hide alot.

I could just a little help... I'm getting a (4×2×2) also could you tell me what bulb you us with the T5 Arcadia I see there are SO SO many different kinds in his amazon list I'm so confused, and want to get this right for my rescued beardie. If you could find a pic online or something it would really help... everyone has so many diffrent opinions but I've done alot of research and I know arcadia is how I want to go, but not understand it completely yet
