Only issue with the gun technique at 13:50 is that nobody is going to be holding onto a gun that lightly. It's going to be much harder to throw someone off who's got their arms and hands clenched the right way

Great class. No BS about belt colors. Basic warm up. Good exercises. I'd skip the gun control because if that baby is loaded you are going to bite that bullet. Love that circle of attacks (most self defense classes it's one on one combat). Noticed that there are no arm submissions and ground pins - more hit and run stuff which is wiser for the beginners. Will look up a class near me to try and see if I don't break anything

This was designed as a "drills class", rather than a lesson class. In our online krav maga program, we generally have a lesson class, which is filled with detailed instruction on particular techniques, with some basic drilling. And then, the following class is a drills class. In a drills class, we do not do high-level breakdowns of the techniques, but rather, focus on getting in effective and realistic repetitions. I hope that makes sense!

So I noticed in the gun defense drill that they weren't holding the gun with their finger on the trigger. Would that not affect the disarm? The up and over disarm in particular seeing as in a real situation the aggressors finger would naturally be on the trigger.

I've noticed that in Israel, the students get to actually punch each-other. I was wondering why that doesn't happen in schools in the UK or USA? Would it not breed more effective fighters if the students could test the skills out by fight one-another? Thank you.
@UltimateTraining
@UltimateTraining 8 лет назад
Well, in the USA we also do full-contact sparring drills. The drills you saw in this class were more designed to practice specific defenses and combatives, in contrast to free flowing sparring. In Israel, if you are referring to the military practicing krav maga, they clearly need to have an even higher level of combat-readiness, as martial action is literally in their job description. We have to consider safety in training, and the students who are attending our classes. But again, we do sparring in the USA as well.
@Stevie-BoyA
@Stevie-BoyA 7 лет назад
actually hitting something or someone doesn't necessarily teach one how to punch or hit, this here is just bassically all about techniques. Not hurting your training partner/s. The whole idea is good technique and effectiveness. If techniques are good and effective, the striking comes naturally with it when truly putting it into action when needed! Hope this helps somehow! Gida
@solokom
@solokom 7 лет назад
+Stevie-BoyA 0123 i disagree. A certain amount of pain is helping the training. It`s not all about techniques. The inner state of mind, instant built up agression in the moment you need it and the will to defeat the other is essentiel to defend yourself. Feeling what pain effect your attacks have and also to learn taking some hits and bear the pain is important. Because Krav maga will not make you invincible, most likely you will get hit and you will get hurt while defending yourself - so you should be prepared for that.
@minefigter
@minefigter 7 лет назад
Depends in izrael it's used for ther military atleast what i know and well if you don't do any sparring you end up getting ur ass beaten
@aikizu7110
@aikizu7110 5 лет назад
@@Stevie-BoyA no, the striking won't come when in a pinch or when you need it. You need to train that specific action for it to happen. You also need to train your pain resistance. From my poor understanding of krav maga, the idea should be of neutralising your enemy as fast as possible and then running away, but i have doubts that one could do it if when training he isn't used to applying some force to the technique.

Turning towards the choking arm? This week I went to a defensive class (not Krav Maga), and the message was to turn away from the choking arm, and towards the opening. There are many contradictions, motivations and philosophies in martial arts. When you practice 'blocks', much can seem sensible. But when you put the blocks together, they have to hook on, be compatible or even fluent. Then you return to your building blocks with a different, more pragmatic view. And possibly a bit confused. That's the learning process. Any method is good, except for the bad ones...

They rack the gun after a disarm: In America alot of people have a license or are trained to fire a firearm. For European viewers: Do NOT rack it or attemp to fire the gun. It is not self defense when you fire after a disarm. Also it may reduce the sentence the assailant may get in court: If it has only one bullet in the chamber and you rack it, and the bullet goes flying never to be found the gun is not armed, thereby reducing the sentence.

+Johann Emmerich Not really. These particular gun defense techniques are designed for a live firearm. For defending a melee (blunt or bladed), you are going to use different principles. We want to boil our techniques down the most effective ways to defend a weapon, but do need to have slight variance in principle against different weapon types.

Yes Mr. South's local academy, National Martial Arts, as well as our online program, the Global Martial Arts University, are both accredited krav maga instruction institutions.

Which would you say is more practical for real defense, I've been training in BJJ for a few months?

Justun Dodd In the streets avoid ground fighting at all costs. You want to start off with muaythai (but if it goes to the ground you will obviously have to use your bjj) so suggest you also learn how to strike next to bjj :)
