The part about the "guy" is actually very correct, but if I may add on the everyday life part, there is actually a bunch of nightclubs in new cairo and centeral cairo. Jazz bars, and high-end restaurants as well. However maybe alcohol is the only thing in egypt that is more expensive than the states or europe. I am an egyptian international student in the UK, and I used to attend school in an interntational school in egypt, where most of the teachers were foreigners. And after graduation, i realised that the staff in my previous school preferred the bars and nightclubs in areas around zamalek and maadi. Generally cairo is a city that always has something to do with no regard to which day of the week it is. I hope this helps broaden your views about the cairo everyday life.

I just want to fast forward 3 years to finish my course, gain a degree in primary education with QTS and move to Egypt 😩🇪🇬. I have to do 2 years work experience within the classroom and then I can move to Cairo to teach. I’ve read everywhere you have to have minimum two years which is understandable I wish I could just get my degree and move straight away. one day though fingers crossed! Also as I will gain QTS (qualified teacher status) do I HAVE to have a pgce and tefl it’s very confusing. As I want to have the best opportunity and skills when I eventually apply international. Love this video btw!
@ExpatsEverywhere
@ExpatsEverywhere 3 года назад
You know, some places get so desperate for teachers, they might hire you straight out of school. The downside is that those schools probably aren't the best ones to be working at. So there's the trade off but if you really want to get started and shorten that 3 years, apply for international jobs just before graduating and see what happens. We know plenty of international schools that have given teachers their first ever teaching jobs. All the best. Keep us posted and thank you for watching.

While there might be some academies that bring you in to teach. The other question you need to ask is if you want to work for those types of academies. By in large, international schools won't hire people that don't have degrees and/or state or national teaching certificates. Business English companies or children's tuition centers on the other hand, probably won't care.

I think you ought to get a perspective from African expats Chinese Philipino etc as the perspective is different, I am an expat and been here for over a year now and find it a very strange society, when you are black they will only respect and want to smile for you when they realize you are of certain class very annoying and they are all out to knock you on a deal. I love the local true nature Egyptians they may not speak English but they are close to being more real. Egyptians are good at saying yes yet don’t mean it and being in the private equity and investment space it’s hard to grasp how the majority can’t even stick to their word on simple issues. The arts crafts carpentry is great, that I love how good the scene is Hard to find basketball pick up games courts are not easily available The construction industry is driving the economy progressively question will be how long it lasts Driving is a nightmare 😭😭 They ought to create smoking and none smoking pubs cafes etc they smoke a whole lot Customer service deserves a lot more in Egypt in many places with some being good

I might get $1000 per month if I was lucky. Forget about the beaches and travelling to nearby countries. I don't think I could afford it. @@ExpatsEverywhere Is it easy to integrate and get along with the local culture? You know, make friends, contacts, just live like anyone else. Wouldn't it be an obstacle: atheism, being white?
@ExpatsEverywhere
@ExpatsEverywhere 5 лет назад
@@BowlerTheHatGuy So depending on where you work, you're going to have a friend base right there. Granted, it could be a mix of expats and locals or heavily one way or the other depending on industry or company. Nevertheless, co-workers will provide you with instant connections. This doesn't matter if you're single or married. Regarding being atheist or religious, you'll be fine there as an atheist, but it's probably not something to go around advertising. While Egypt is one of the most liberal countries in north Africa and ME regions, it's just common sense not to be advertising yourself in such away that's seen as counter-cultural. Does that make sense? Being white will come with some obstacles, but probably not the ones you'd think. Egyptians on the whole are really friendly and open to talking to strangers that are foreigners. Just use common sense and be aware of your surroundings as to when people are engaging you. Hope that helps. Thanks for the comment.

@@ingridgillette5573 Alright. We heard back and we'll give you the full dialogue here. As a Western, non-veiled woman who doesn't speak Arabic, this is really hard for her to answer. There is sexual harassment though. A friend of hers was assaulted and the guy was thrown in jail. Like, anywhere, be aware fo your surroundings. If you feel uncomfortable, try to remove yourself from the situation. She would say, try to not walk around alone. If you're alone, stick to places you're comfortable with. EE asks "Was your friend a Westerner?" Correspondent, "Yes". EE-"How covered were you when you walked around?" Correspondent, "I always stuck to keeping my shoulders covered and at least capris. I know the few times I wore shorts home from the gym, I got a lot more attention and looks." Lastly, we asked "How bad was the assault to be thrown into jail?" The correspondent answered that a food delivery guy pushed his way into her apt and was grabbing at her. However, a guy at her school had some pull and the case was taken really seriously. That doesn't always go so easily for foreigners.
