Each time I see the homeless people around it reminds me of the republicans from when I was a kid. Then I look at the democrats and I see the same exact republicans. They are all just like that whale, larger than life and being locked up in a small cage of fear and hatred. Sure they get fed fish from their owners like the property you are at your work. You can never be free to swim in the ocean or find your own place in the waters of this world. Instead you are trapped by your job, your relationships and your property. Then you see the whale, and you know that the small comfort is not worth the loneliness. At the same time, you know that the small comfort’s you have found will be lost. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t cut down the fence and take a look.

Whales aren't money, on this planet they have seniority, I may be baptized Catholic (sometimes I go to prorestant churches,or catholic w family to bless food... way off topic) "dominion over the Earth"? wise Holy Bible readers will recognize we are _Stewards_ of the Earth responsible for upkeep... never been to Sea World, never will.. my concern is? why did they HYPE the release?? like the whale is IGNORANT?? died of STRESS!!! you say release? better do it Lickety Split... we all heard of the 'upcoming release'? right? what kind of Anthropocentric jerkitude... does it take to understand,fellow mammal, raises young,has language... we cant fully decode it... This makes my heart hurt. Please, tell your Congressional reps to pass legislation making it illegal to own, sell, import, display or otherwise exploit ALL large or exotic animals...and please don't patronize rodeos, circuses, petting/roadside zoos or marine attractions. Animals used for display or entertainment live absolutely horrible lives. In every way that matters, their neurophycology is just like ours and this type of captivity is animal torture.

I had prayed and hoped she would make it to her sea pen and finally be able to swim freely and hear the sound of other sea life; even if it would have been a short life. At last her never ending circles are over in that filthy, tiny pool. Never buy a ticket.

The only reason the aquarium agreed to release her is because she was dying. All zoo's and aquariums should be shut down.

THERE NEEDS TO BE AN INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION OF THIS WHALE'S DEATH. I wouldn't be surprised if the Aquarium "planned" or at least hoped for it. She was a total liability to them now that she could no longer perform. They didn't even respect her enough to keep her tank clean - you wouldn't let a guppy live there, let alone this magnificent creature if you cared about and RESPECTED her. Reports are that they were giving her rotten food. How long can an animal live like this? Who does that to an animal and doesn't face abuse charges???? And now they were going to have to bear the huge expense of returning her to Puget Sound. I don't think they wanted to put one more dime into her. Her care alone must amount to animal abuse and the Aquarium should be held accountable.

I'm so upset. I learned lolita about 10 years ago, to think that she still had ten more years of torture is disheartening. The miami sea aquarium let her go only because they couldn't exploit her anymore. She deserved so much better from everyone. I hope all the public who went to watch the "show" realizes that each of them put a nail on lolita's coffin.

I get claustrophobic watching any animal move about restlessly in their enclosure. As a kid I would feel wild cats’ distress as they paced back and forth, almost psychotically. I cannot imagine what it must be like for an ocean creature this size living in captivity. 😢😢

I can't believe that there are people out there that will literally pay money to go sit and watch these animals who were ripped from their pods or families isolated for most of their lives in 80ft tanks when they need thousands of miles of ocean to survive and they're forced to do flips and dance to music in order to eat and their fins literally stop working because they float all day instead of swim there's people that actually think taking their kids to see an animal live a miserable existence is like a good way to spend a Saturday. If people stopped buying tickets this wouldn't even be an issue anymore

People are either quick to forget or never knew that before killer whales were studied in a zoological setting nothing was known about them. They were considered pests. The armed forces used them for target practice. It was only after we had them up close and studied them that the perception of what they are changed and strong protections were put in place for them. Now, instead of whinging about one geriatric killer whale, we should turn our attention to the wild ones. The Southern Residents feed exclusively on Chinook salmon. They are starving do to overfishing. If you want something worthwhile to protest, there it is.
