The power they wield is not psychic, it's mystic. Psychic (aka: "psionic") power is the direct projection of one's mind & thoughts to affect another mind, whether for good or ill. Mysticism is about harnessing & controlling one's own mind to the point where they gain benefits to their own mental & physical abilities & use those extra abilities on others, for good or ill. It's similar to the way that a dedicated martial artist will develop well-thought out moves with the body, carefully considering how muscles work in conjunction with the skeletal structure to formulate the quickest, most efficient movements to transfer the most strength as possible into a blow or kick...Even the best ways to use their own bodies for the best effects with leverage (unarmed melee with limb locks), all while using the minimum amount of personal energy & lowest personal risk of injury. The idea of practicing martial arts is to make these carefully considered maneuvers ingrained into reflex action so that the body more or less performs the moves without having second-thoughts or having to take time to consciously considering a variety of moves before acting. This also leaves more mental resources free for considering overall tactics & strategies that it might take to end the fight. Some Zen monks, for example, gain such abilities like being able to consciously controlling their pheromone production, gaining a subtle level of influence over their subject's emotional responses (They might call it "animal magnetism"). This is a close relationship to the "Witch's Voice" which grants a more direct, verbal level of control over the subject.

The Benne Gesserit were supposed to help all humanity not just women. Ironically, their messiah must be male. The Reverend Mothers seek to be able to control a possible messiah, yet if he truly is the messiah, he cannot be controlled by them. Another beautiful irony.

Read the Frank Herbert books, not the potboilers . There's no " magic "... Extremely honed human abilities.

The Bene Gesserit test isn't really about willpower, it is about finding out whether an individual is an animal - selfish and only concerned with their short-term well-being - or human - altruistic and seeing the big picture. And even in the books not everybody says the test is 100% reliable.

The mental strength and discipline of the Bene Gesesrit Sisters and Reverend Mothers are something not to be taken lightly.
