I may have bought a lemon, but I finally figured out why I could not get tight groups with my Benjamin Mayhem NP@ .22. I would get 3-4 tight shots and 1-2 fliers from 5 shot rounds, and when I say fliers, they were 1-2 inches outside of group at 25 yards. I have noticed non-round holes in the targets on the fliers, but last week, the first shot was exaggerated. Although I had noticed over the last year that looking up the barrel when it is broken open to cock it, there appeared to be a black crescent moon shape on the upper left side of the barrel. I removed the metal shield from the suppressor/cocking handle and looked up the barrel again. The crescent moon was there, but I could get it to go away by simply moving the plastic/rubber suppressor baffles. Bottom line is a used a long drill bit and drilled the hole down the middle of the suppressor 3/16" larger and cleaned out all of the drill residue. I now have tight groups with the only fliers coming from shooter error. The pattern is now tight enough that I can shoot lantern flies off a tree at 20 yards.
I’ve had mine for a couple of years. Yes it is pellet picky ( mine shoots most accurately with crossman hollow-points believe it or not ). Squirrel and pigeon headshots at 50+ yards is a breeze. Definitely get a good air rifle scope, the one it comes with lasts just long enough to break it in and get it sighted if you’re lucky.
Same with mine. Took about 100 shots to break it in and it shoots great with the premier hollow points. 45 yards is about the limit for a squirrel sized target
I would like to see you get a sound meter to te st the makers claims on how quiet their airguns are. Maybe do a test on the Umarex Throttle with it's "Stopshox" system? There are some claim that system lets you use a traditional rifle hold, without having to go to the artillary hold. Kedrp up the good work!!
This looks like a mod job on the Jim Shockey Steel Eagle,,It screams Frankenstein to me. Perhaps Benjamin didn't quite work out all the kinks on what i believe is a hybrid. Great review, keep up the good work.
Always enjoy your airgun reviews. You do a great job. I have the Benjamin Trail NP Elite Stealth Wood in 177 with CBT trigger with a lighter spring but I do not have the second stage and the adjusting screw is screwed in tight. I think I need a longer screw to get the second stage. Any thoughts? No bipod. I'm suprised.
Actually a longer screw will help a bit for adjustment. Try that to start with. What really makes a difference is to change out that spring to a lighter one if you like. HF&T sells generic spring kits very cheap. Ultimately you should fill an easy take up(1st stage) then it should come to a wall(2nd stage) as you pull against that wall it should then disengage the sear and fire the gun. Predictably is everything with a trigger. I don't put rails on every gun. I just have too many. In fact I am going to start liquidating some of my inventory. I appreciate your comments and thank you for watching 👍
I wish you would test the triggers "Out of the box". I would like know the trigger pulls as STOCK! It's ok the make modifications and you could even compare the stock and modded numbers. Not everybody is comfortable changing spring and or replacing screws in their guns trigger.
So...just an FYI, most of my inventory I have owned for quite some time. The modifications were done quite some time ago. So I am not going to reverse my modifications for the video. But I do clearly advise what the trigger weight was out of the box. I also like to show what the potential can be for some of these triggers. Viewers like to know if they are stuck with the standard trigger settings. It is always a bonus to know if a trigger can be modified to improve performance. Thanks for watching 👍
I bought a Benjamin Durango and I liked it so much I've got two of them. One's my daughter's..lol Dime size accuracy at a good distance. Maybe I'll see you you do a review. Stay safe my friend...
Thank you for the timely review, I was strongly considering purchasing one of these, but have decided to wait-saving and shopping for a ASP20/Diana/RWS, instead. Great review as usual, and appreciate your honesty. Is there a link you can suggest for completing trigger work? Thanks!
I have Crosman’s-Optimus that I installed a GRT III-very nice, and a Nitro Venom and Diamondback-both desperately need trigger work. I may end up with GRT’s on both, but thought I would carefully check other options. I have the new bearings, and ordered adjustments screws for each. I’m just not sure-and have no knowledge of how one is smoothed out (cleaned up?).
Hi again, you awnsered a viewers question and recommended a cheap spring kit from HF&t, what company is this? I Googled these initials but nothing came up. But the way you have a good website, gonna have to get a shirt.
Harbor Freight and Tool. They have a variety of generic springs in a very inexpensive kit. You won't use most of them but there are a few in there that work. Under $10.00 for the whole box. Use a 20% coupon and get a free gift as well 👍😉
I've got two Durangos very solid and very accurate rifles. About every 200 shots you better be putting the correct lube in the compression chamber. If you use three in one you'll destroy it. Pure silicone oil from Crosman. Put a quality scope on it and your ready for the Zombies..lol
I’m currently thinking about getting the Gamo magnum with the adjustable scope combo and I’d like to know if you think a different rifle with an adjustable scope combo is better than the Gamo? Thanks, keep up the content.
I’m willing to spend around 400 but I’d like an adjustable scope combo and more than 25 ft lbs because I would like to shoot at longer ranges. I’m not sure if there is a combo with the asp 20 that could fill that need, is there another combo that you could think of? Also thanks for responding.
@@morganyoder4277 very few of these rifles come with decent quality scopes. Sig is an exception, it has one of the better. I would just find the rifle you want and upgrade the scope later. You can get a solid scope for around $100. The UTG/LEAPERS that have the "TS" platform work well. Look for the rifle that interest you most.
Just bought a Benjamin Prowler .22 for $104 at Walmart yesterday and they must of changed the barrel because it’s got a shroud similar to this Benjamin and I fired about 50-100 pellets and while using my FX Chrony I got up to 21FPE with JSB 15.89 which might be from dieseling as I didn’t clean it yet, but I was still surprised at the FPS from a $104 Walmart air rifle. Now my Gamo Whisper Swarm 10x .22 is a tack driver at 20yds even with that heavy plastic trigger which I hate. I can hit pennies at 20yds 4 out of 5 times no exaggeration I have videos and pictures if you think I’m lying. Anyway, when I Chrony the Gamo with the same JSB 15.89 I’m only getting 12FPE?! I know it’s settled and broken in now but I’d expect at least 15-18FPE with JSB’s. Maybe I’m being unrealistic but I think maybe a seal is leaking?
I have Benjamin Rogue NP2 SBD. Other than the grey inserts in the foregrip and handgrip, I do not think there is much difference is there? I think they quit marketing this Rogue Model because they did not want confusion with their original Rogue Model.
I’d love to see this Benjamin Mayhem NP2 .22 up against the Hatsan 130s Vortex QE .22! So many videos on the Hatsan .30 but so few on the .22 version. Even your video I watched was the Hatsan .30 against the Gamo .22, while I’m curious about the Hatsan 130s Vortex QE .22 🤔
Save yourself a few bucks and get the Hatsan 125 springer in .22. There's not enough energy difference between the 125 and the 135 to justify the extra money, IMHO. Unless you really want the 135's Turkish walnut stock, take a look at the standard 125. You should be able to find the basic spring version of the 125 for around $180.00 if you shop around. As far as comparing a Crosman, any model Crosman, to the Hatsan 125... Don't bother, the Crosman comes up short in every regard except sound level. The Vortex powered "Sniper" platform from Hatsan would be an exception of course, that platform is pretty dang quiet. Again my opinion, for what it's worth.
My favorite breakbarrel is the Sig ASP20 in .22 cal. High Quality gun, great trigger, easy to cock, powerful, not pellet picky, quiet, it is ready to go out of the box, you just need a scope. Based on your budget you can get a wood or synthetic stock. Anyway that's my choice 👍
Well I must say you certainly gave a fair assessment on this rifle, I own it also and have the exact same experience with it. Dang pellet picky and the recoil is nasty, I wonder if their sound suppression system is causing harmonic issues with accuracy. Anyways another great review, thanks!
I kinda liked the looks of this rifle. Not your basic looking hunting style break barrel rifle. Would suit me well. But kinda sad that you could easily get a poor copy of one if not able to test shoot one before buying. And it is always a damn shame not to reach claimed spec numbers..
@@AirgunDetectives I do own a Crosman Phantom .177 break barrel. Bought it once cuz being on sale. (Probably on sale cuz the specific chain store nowadays mostly sell Gamo break barrels, if any). But I have nothing bad to say about that rifle. Basic springer break barrel that has worked fine. Even the og cheap scope that came along still works. Can hit with that rifle very well if the shooter ain't in a poor shape the day after..😁
Aftermarket spring? For the trigger? You can pick up an entire assortment of springs at Harbor Freight and Tool for less than $10.00. Polish the contact points with the trigger and the sear. Only a couple of pins hold in the trigger. Just photograph everything before you take it apart as a reference for reassembling. It is very simple.
I need help!!! What diameter scope rings can I put on mine?? The screw snapped inside of one of the mounts and I’m not sure what size replacements I should buy.
Shoot benelli montifeltro 28 in barrel w crio chokes w light loads. And I even put the triple A or whatever recoil pad on. Really helped but I shot remington 1100 LT20 for eons. Spoils you.
Your not as old as me They use to sell Javaro blowguns for about $8 when I was 13 I got one.The darts were awsome, was spring wire and you cut to length. The dart heads were a string of beads. I pulled them off with a reg fork. I used a cup of water and precut darts. But once finished I was lethal. we even used electric grinder to sharpen a few. In winter Id throw bread out for birds then open kitchen window and stand on chair. It was twice the blowgun that cold steel has. It was like shooting out of a pool stick. and u could see your target and you knew you were on. Mice rats squirrels. Thats why I dont kill anything anymore except like snakes rats possums. Use shotgun at about 5 ft. Cant believe you hit dead center first shot either!!!
99% of the reviewers are doing this (rookie) mistake: a suggestion to "subscribe" and "like" the content that actually HASN'T started yet. Damn - how do I know whether I like it or dislike it, whether I will "subscribe" or will not BEFORE I watched it?! Please, use a COMMON SENSE and put these suggestions at the END of the review (if you think it is necessary).
