As someone with C-PTSD, I both respect and appreciate that shirt. When I travelled to the UK back in 2013 they held me in detention at Heathrow (to check if I could be allowed in, because I had PTSD...) and t he security guard asked why I was being held up. And I told him because they are asking if I'm okay to let in. Well the security guard did this walk, across the UK, every year for PTSD awareness, told me he'd fought in the Troubles and the Falkland War, and gave me a card to call if I ever had any issues or needed someone to talk too. It was extremely heartening and definitely took the edge off an already pretty stressful situation (first time travelling, first time in the UK, first time being held in detention lol). So much appreciated seeing that dude.
Hi Tom! Thanks for the review as always, glad you're still around and kicking :-) I have but one concern with these kinds of air coolers always, and it's that whence the factory "custom" fans are going, what to do then is rather bleak. Do these two, for instance, have 3rd party fan mount brackets out of the box? How will the temps and overall performance be affected by high performance 3rd party fans? I would love it if you can answer such questions like these in the reviews. Mark has said on the website review that he "wouldn't try replacing this with anything else" but that's not always an optional wanderlust and fans do have failures, whilst heatsink itself will not. Maybe I want to use this for 10-15 years on the same computer as it ages and shifts from a daily, to a daily for children, to a background server etc. I'd like to continue to use the big heap of metal then too and I think it matters.
Elite: 3rd party fans do not fit, you’d need to buy replace fans via be quiet!. Pro 5: Same as with Elite. 135 mm fan has to be of the same make. The outer 120 mm fan might be replaceable with 3rd party fans. Best bet is to buy original Silent Wings 3 fans, in the case, failures occur. So, replacing is possible.
it's nice to see they've finally made a new big chungus cooler. the RGB implementation seems a little bland to me. i think i like the design of my dark rock pro 4 a little more than this one but it's good to see the middle fan is a lot easier to take out. i don't even take my middle fan out to clean cause it's so annoying dealing with the metal tab things without scratching the black paint
I'd be restricted in case choice; I like to have my cooler fans aligned exactly with the rear case fan. Good review nice level of detail and your musing on what they should do in future interesting. I do love a goofy grin to finish on too. PS: I too appreciate the tee-shirt.
No look at the mounting brackets/hardware? Didn't see it in the web review either. Considering two pages of "closer look" I thought it to be kinda odd not a single picture of the mounting hardware.
I see you tested on 9900K. The problem with that is, new CPU's like 13th gen intel and 7000 AMD are very much different in terms of designs and core placement (amd cores are not centered on a die), so this test is not valid for anyone with a new gen CPU. Noctua even offers offset bracket for AMD 7000. (please see the Hardware Canucs review and everything will be clear)
My only complain is the very existence of the 135 mm fan. Here's why: - it puts unnecessary stress on the manufacturing process; - outmatched by the 140mm fan; - severely limits the cooler's customization capacity. The fact that they share the same heatsink is undeniable proof that better fans do improve cooling. Imagine if they came with a cooler capable of mounting two 140 mm fans. Get two Silent Wings Pro 4s and watch the TDP exceed 300W. But for that, Be Quiet needs to ditch the 135mm. That applies to someone who has an i9-13900K and plans to upgrade to the 14900K to squeeze every drop out of it. As for me, I own an i5-12600K, so I'll buy the Pro 5 simply for an eventual CPU upgrade.
how about dark rock pro 4 with be quiet silent wing 4 pro fans vs dark rock elite cooler. to see if the heatsink is better or its just fan performance the middle fan seems to be a problem if it fails
What ram do you use if i may ask? I wanna buy the Elite but i have Kingston Fury Beast ddr5 32gb installed, i'd like to know if it's gonna work without adjusting the height of the fan
I would imagine people either want air or liquid cooled so folks like me who don't ever want an air wouldn't care about that comparison. Probs wouldn't hurt to include though, just saying I could see the reason
@@peckc16 Since the Actic is a liquid cooled AIO and one of the cheaper options frequently when discounted online as well as very high performing according to most reviews what is you reason?
@@mattfitz1408 myself and many folks interest in these big air coolers have no interest in aio typically. I don't like the idea of water in my PC and they typically don't last half as long as the fans on an air cooler. I'm just thinking if olls are looking at this big and expensive of an air cooler, they have likely already ruled out liquid cooling.
@@peckc16 Ok I can understand what your saying better now. Your point is valid but this channel reviews many liquid coolers as evidenced by the chart being dominated by them. If you don't care about AIO's then you might perfer a chart that had none of them and even more air only coolers. Since thats not the case I still argue that its an issue to be missing one of the best optons for AIO's. It's clear the majority of viewers are not opposed to any AIO or liquid cooling in general hence the reason he reviews so many liquid options. For most viewers the bigger question is what performs best along with some price/noise/performance metrics. The utility of these reviews is largely in the ability to compare these charachteristics price/noise/perfromance and to better understand how much performance you leave on the table with large air coolers. I believe that Arctic is an important missing data point for charts that are otherwise extremely thorough.
Hello, please tell me if dark rock elite is compatible with the gigabyte z790 aorus elite ax ddr5 motherboard and DDR5 G.SKILL TRIDENT Z5 RGB 32GB (2x16GB) 6400MHz RAM, thank you
The RGB implementation is pretty low effort, why not include the "be quiet!" logo. When it's dark and you look through the side window, you'll just see a glowing square.... I mean, I don't get it. They do the same thing on the AIO's. It's like they are torn about whether or not to fully commit, admittedly I'm glad the fans aren't RGB, got to keep those epic black be quiet fans.... Wouldn't it be cool if you could set the "be" to white and the "quiet!" to orange.
Testing fan performance without measuring noise is absolutely useless. Basing the testing on rpm numbers is meaningless. 1000 rpm is not the same noise level for two different coolers.
@@OC3D How come every other reviewer manages to measure noise levels and make a noise-to-performance graph? And obviously you have to remove case fans as a variable.
It makes no sense to compare coolers based on fan rpm. One fan can push more air at 800 rpm than another at 1000 rpm, but that doesn't tell you anything about how noisy they are either at equivalent rpm or at equivalent performance level.
