Great video, I also own the Orient "Deepsea" aka Pro Saturation - 2nd generation model with the old style hands but with hacking and handwinding. Bought it new in 2013 and will never let it go.
Orient is doing such a great job! Wish they still made the Saturation but I do Love the Triton and an even lower price than the Saturation even though it has the same movement. I My pick is still the Sieko more and the SBDC051 is my hearts desire. They just look more refined.Love them! The SBDC031 Sumo & the Triton would be an awesome battle with the Sumo a lil over $100 more than the Triton. Thanx Bruce for all the awesome content!
I got the 063 (as you know) from your recommendation in the review video and I have to wholeheartedly agree with you, it wears like a dream! My wrist is 7-1/2” and I can wear this watch all day and not even know it’s there! I love mine for sure and I have owned the 051 before and again you’re spot on it wears a bit larger than this 063. Anyway Thanks Bruce!
Both are incredible watches. Between the 2, my personal choice is the sbdc063. The Orient is rather large and i can’t say that I’m a fan of the location of the power reserve with how it eats into two of the dial markers.
I dunno man, the Triton is pretty darn close to what you're asking for when it comes to a smaller OSD. I really like mine. I don't care too much for the bracelet on the Triton, but it wears really well on a nato or heavy duty rubber strap. I've got mine on a Toxic Magnum strap and it really works well.
as a guy who love dive watches, specially from seiko, it really frustrates me that i have small wrist size. would that seiko look good on a wrist around 6 - 6.25 inches??
I’m Leaning towards the 063 because of its size but if I came across the orient for $600 as you did I think I would grab it. Great Video Bruce as usual.
Great choices. Doesn't the 200m version of the Orient saturation diver fit what you would like to see in the 300m version? Smaller, probably lighter, has same design and probably about the same build? I know it has the same movement, too. BTW, still loving my SBDC063 on the bracelet. 4 days in a row and i'll likely wear up to 5 days for a full work week. I probably got lucky and I might have just jinxed myself in stating this now, but this is by far one of the most accurate watches I've owned. Next to the Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Masterchrono I had, this watch is holding consistent time VERY well. It has not really strayed 1 second from the time I set it on Monday 7/16 when I received it. I'm not using an atomic clock, unless my smartphone clock is tuned into an automic clock for accurate time keeping?, but simply checking the watch against the same clock on the smart phone as I always set all my watches to and it is in near perfect sync to the second still for about 4 days now. Yes, even on my 6.875" wrist, this 44mm SBDC063 fits very nicely. I'll state it again, Seiko dive watches in particular have a way of wearing about 2mm smaller than stated actual dimensions. It has presence, but it is not overly large at all. I do believe it has to do with Seiko's brilliant knowledge and experience to design and cut their cases to wear smaller and more comfortable than one might expect a larger case size would or could. It's that smooth undercutting along the sides that allows the wrist to comfortably sit into the wrist and gives a much slimmer profile when on the wrist.. and, the lugs are just short enough and curved down enough to help with the overall fitment as well for many wrist sizes. Anyways, thanks for this video and look forward to your next one.
The Triton is the best affordable diver in my eyes. Like sub $400, but lacks the level on a few of my wish list items. Like ceramics, handset, bracelet quality and clasp. Yes my 063 is still at +1 or 2 every couple days. It is awesome! Who says a 6r15 cant be done properly lol
As Bruce mentioned, it is known as the Triton. The ref # is too long to list, but this will get you to the black version. There is a blue version and I think a black with gilt version also. www.longislandwatch.com/Orient_RA_EL0001B00A_Dive_Watch_p/ra-el0001b00a.htm you can see some of the other colors at the bottom of this page. www.orientwatchusa.com/collections/all?page=2
Trying to decide on a new timepiece but struggling. Ruling out the sbdc051 and 61 models as I have the MM300 and SLA017. Really tempted with a shogun though what do you think of those?
Jaspal Dhillon with those 2 pieces I wouldn’t get the shogun if any of those 2 watches aren’t comfortable enough to wear all day, that would be my only reason to try the shogun or if you’re a collector. I sold mine never regretted it.
That Orient SD in 42 or 40 mm at the same qualilty as this 45 mm, would be an absolute stunner. Especially in white. Question; Any QC issues with your Seiko?
Hi Bruce, I love your reviews! At first I was torn up between getting the SDBC053 or the SBDC063, but then I went to a Seiko store in Singapore and noticed this Seiko Transocean SBDC047 for about $1,000. It looked wicked with sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel and the arrow on the hour hand is not as big as the recent prospex hands. The downside is that it has integrated bracelet, so no chance for changing to a rubber strap. I'm hoping for you to review the watch or at least give me your opinion. A video review would be awesome, if that's not too much trouble 😁
Hey Bruce I love your channel and reviews I have just 2 questions about the video, first are you sure that the OSD has a ceramic bezel? Second how close do you think are the OSD and the Triton are in terms of quality and finish? Thanks and keep up the great work!
Older gens like mine have a ceramic coating over brushed steel. I've heard the newer references the coating is more of a PVD and not ceramic based. Two, there is a noticeable difference in quality and finish between the OS 300 and the Triton but it is not drastic
Between these 2, I have to say the Seiko. The Orient is cool but is very toolie in natural while the Seiko can play a little more in the realm of dressy (?) The Seiko squeezes into a place Seiko had a huge gap in before as far as the divers. They had nothing between the Sumo and the MM300. This Seiko combines both which is cool and is simply more sophisticated than the Orient while still having some great features like drilled lug holes.
The Orient Triton has all the same elements in a more daily wearable package ,tho its still a relative heavy weight Made in Japan too unlike most Seikos
Loving the Seiko reviews you do!! I’m getting so close to pulling the trigger on a SPB051J1 which is at this price point. Do u feel it stacks up in this price point?? I love your feedback as I just love the look of the peace . Keep u the great reviews!!
FallingTitan since I’ve been getting close to this choice it’s the case that keeks bringing me back to the 62 mas. It looks amazing.......... just has to happen now!!
I recently did a in depth compare of the two watches. They are totally interchangable in my eyes. Same quality. Just different aesthetics. Though the 06x wears easier. I own both and love each
Bruce Williams I have watched that video and really loved both!! I just can’t get away from the case on the mas and I also love the fact that it’s a reissue of Seiko’s first ever diver, nice little bit of history. The good news is there’s no bad choice between the 2. Thanks for your feedback!! Really appreciate it Bruce!!
Bruce Williams true story my man. I have several luxury watches mostly Rolex, Omega, Tudor and Brietling. Ive bought several Orients and simply floored at what they offer at the price point they offer it for. You don’t see the QC issues with Orient that you would see in similar priced Seikos.
Bruce Williams picking up a Mako XL with a fully lumed dial as we speak. You should do a review on the new Mako XL vs SKX007. There’s simply no comparison.
No problem at all, you've done a really nice job on this one! It's quite interesting to see how similar the Orient is to the Grand Seiko Divers (ref. SBGA029), I know Seiko now own Orient... but other than the case shape, hands, position of the power reserve... The watches are very similar.
I preface this with ..."this is my opinion" Lol. Seiko rules the $500 and under and the marinemaster achieves greatness above $2000 with it's Grand Seiko-like finish and movement. However, the space in-between is better left alone. The QC of Seiko dive watches, and the entry level 6r15, leave much to be desired and diminishes the value proposition as the dollars increase. The better play is to save up for a marinemaster or stick to the entry level pieces like the 🐢, SKX, and Samurai.
I definitely disagree with everything you just said lol. I've owned them all and everything in between. There are worthwhile pieces in the 500-1500 segment no doubt
I have to agree with Sean here. I strongly feel the same. Though this watch shown here (SBDC061?) looks amazing to me, it dont find it worth its $500 premium over the Sumo. The only things I see being better over the Sumo (and it is a lot of things) is the sapphire, bracelet, clasp. But I do not feel those things are worth double the price. If they would have added a newer movement then I would have said yes, maybe a 8 bps movement. Similar to the MM300 clasp, if the clasp for this Seiko becomes available to put on the Sumo... it is really game over between which is the better buy.
How about comparing it to other divers at the price point, rather than a cheaper Seiko. I'd say this diver is comfortably superior to Swiss rivals at the price point.
The Sumo sbdc031 is the best deal right now, for almost half the price of the 061. $425 for a classic diver with 6r15 is a no brainier, given you like the looks of it.
The MM200 is beautiful, and plenty good enough spec wise to be top off this category. Case finishing is phenomenal, it wears soooooo well, and that can't be discounted. How well it wears is probably more important than depth rating, being that most will wear it and almost never dive with it. The Orient is just plain ugly. It's the "best kept secret" because it's not something anyone looks at and says "oh I want that!" No, it's collectors that can't stop themselves from buying this stuff that need to tell themselves it was worth the purchase. Brand and logo look awkward where they are. Power Reserve indicators are almost always an eyesore. They work well on some of the cool Lange and FP Journe stuff, but look stupid on divers, they look stupid on the Grand Seikos, etc.
