Man, your watch reviews - seiko in particular- are the best i've ever seen. I get a strong urge to buy every single watch you review. Seiko should probably send you loaners for review.
OMG, first off my main problem with both these beautiful Seiko divers is that they are with you instead of being with me.😀😁😂. Now I have to follow up with my normal watch purchasing prosegers , which are to give myself a 2to3 week cool down . This is something that I do to make sure that I don't get in trouble with my money,😁 . Thank you for this great opportunity to delve into my favorite things to do. I love Seiko watchs and I was already looking at a Seiko sarp93, Save the Ocean. I have to say that out of all the watchs that I look at, I only own a small number of watchs. This cool down time along with your informative watch segments are invaluable. Thanks again.
Thank you, Bruce! I I really appreciate that you did this so fast. Nice shots, good points, good comparison. I really don't like the hands- it's not because of the design, its cuz of the paint covers them. Anyway still great watch and maybe I will order the blue one. Great video again, regards!
I have the SBDC053 on a bracelet which I absolutely love and this watch seems like the exact watch with the only difference being the shape of the hour markers. May not be worth doing a comparison as that may be only difference to note!
Nice ones , thanks for the review. I have to say that these don’t offer enough differentiation to really scream BUY ME but if I didn’t already have several divers including a Shogun I’d be tempted.
I just picked up an Orient Triton from long island watch for under $400 and I think its quality and fit & finish is on par with these two Seikos. I may be saving for a Tuna, but if Orient can keep making watches like the Triton that are a step above the Mako & Ray models I might not be able to resist over a comparable Seiko.
I’ve had my eye on the SBDC061. The bracelet looks similar to the one on my 051, 053, and 055. I’ve honestly never had any issue with alignment or lume application, but most of the Seikos I have are JDM. I am contemplating selling my Shogun to get one of these.
Bruce...Same here. I bought the Shogun after I bought the 62mas 051 and after a trip to Japan. I was underwhelmed by the Shogun and taken back by its lightness. Its a great watch but I like stainless steel better.
This seems to combine styling cues of the Sumo and the MM300 from the case shape, the lines, and how the sides just barely rise to almost shroud the bezel. Just wish there was an option to get the blue on bracelet too and not a fan of the broad hour hand. But I love the bezel and case.
I really liked your breakdown of the watch. i'm having a hard time trying to decide between this and the 051. they seem to common in many ways but any considerations you would recommend?
Super favorably. They are essentially the same watch just aesthetic or stylistic differences. The 05x will have more visible ar sheen, and I think the 06x will fit a larger variety of wrists.
Please clarify some details, in your next review including; screw-in crown, Sapphire Crystal, crown hand winding, power reserve time, hanging time adjustment, time accuracy and availability in blue dial or black dial with original Stainless Steel Seiko bracelet. This watch looks great with its bezel as Certified 200 m Dive watch, under 1000 US $, and Many Thanks for your quick review.
As you know, my unwavering enthusiasm for Seiko has shown quite a few cracks lately. Could the SPB077/9 restore my faith? So far, it looks quite good. They have addressed my main issues with their mid-tier diver line: they now have sapphire crystals, milled clasps, bezel inserts that befit the price, and hopefully a reduction in the quality issues that have been sadly evident in fully half of the Seiko diver watches that I have owned. I agree, those hands are becoming ubiquitous (Tuna, SBDC051, and they are remarkably similar to the Samurai and Monster hands) but they don't bother me too much. 20 mm strap width on a 44 mm watch head? That one gives me pause as that has been my aesthetic complaint about the Sumo. But it doesn't look very noticeable in the video, so maybe it won't be an issue. Thanks for getting these watches in a reviewing them for us. Always appreciated!
That video got a lot of hits, a lot attention, and for some reason I received an unusual amount of dislikes, but it was so fun to read your comments "on the air." It was all worth it.
Hi! Still haven’t seen this 061 in person, and was about to buy the 051 this week. Now after seeing this video, I’m not sure about what to do... go on and buy the 051? Wait to try 061 in my wrist? We need your advice, Bruce! We need your 051-061 comparison video! Truth is that that would be more helpful than Seiko AD advice...
Jaime, thank you. I am out of town the this week but when I get back next week I will make a detailed video comparing the two. I think it would be good to do they are very similar
I agree, as fans we will always demand more. Like ceramics, 4 hertz movements, screw pins, etc. And maybe in coming years those will be more prevalent with the brand. But this model carries all that we enjoy about Seiko. I think they really nailed this release. Great job imo
Nice one Bruce. Is it just the camera or does the bracelet seem to be too small for the lugs? It looks like the bracelet needs to be taller or something to line up with the inside of the lugs.
Just my opinion, but for me I just purchased the Japanese model SBDC061 and it has quickly become my favorite SEIKO to wear. It combines all you want in a mechanical watch with masculinity, sleekness, and a very comfortable wear. It is not an over the top design or color, just a classic dive look. The shortcomings of the 6R15 are fairly well documented, but in light of how beautiful this watch is, I just don't care if it loses 15-30 seconds a day.
Well Bruce , I decided to order the Seiko 063 , the Oris is cool but I can’t get past the proprietary lbracelet and no real strap options. Ordered mine today can’t wait! Thx
I was in a seiko store to buy one the last weekend. But both on the SBDC061 had problem with line-up. So I bought a Sumo instead with perfect line-up. It's sad though because I really like the SBDC061
Good viewing. Does it feel smaller than the Steinhart 42mm (OVM or Ocean Vintage GMT)? Wished this was a 41mm and 48mm lug height, would be a monty fit then. Maybe a slight tapered bracelet from 22mm down to 18mm.
Nice vid again , Bruce! But I kind of fail to see where the price difference between the Sumo and this new release comes from (apart from the sapphire). And the Sumo has a much nicer handset. A comparison vid would be awesome. Cheers
Holger Reinke Sumo is amazing value for money the differences aren’t a lot. 061 has nicer bezel insert, nicer bezel action, sapphire with AR, better bracelet, clasp, and diashield coating.
Hello Bruce, great video. Could you please consider making comparison video of the 061 with last years 051? I think that lot of people would be interested. Thanks
Hello I’ve recently bought the marine master 200 ... (061) but the stock metal bracket doesn’t seem to fit my wrist comfortably. Will strap code 20mm oyster bracelets fit the watch?... thanks
They definately look good, question is would you still recommend one to someone who already had a MM300, Sumo, SLA017? Off to Japan soon so wanted to pickup a Seiko while there so trying to decide on what.
Jeffrey McMahon thanks man. I’ll keep both. Wear the OS when I want the large heavy feel on wrist, and wear this when I crave a lighter more refined feel. I’ll send your way soon and get your take
Daniel Horst it wears smaller and more comfortably than the shogun. I also prefer the sapphire and personally like steel more than titanium. I like he diashield, not sure to what degree it will deflect surface wear
I am not sure I get the rationale for putting the exact same (?) hands on the SPB061/063 as on the 051/053. Maybe this is why I feel that the "déclic" is still missing (for me).
051 or 061 in your opinion is your favourite? That would look so much better with some sort of mm300 hands Seiko just wont go the extra step but I understand there thinking, i think.🤔
Good Apollo I was referring to the nickname “MM200”. There is no 6R15 Marine Master. Only the SD- 5R66, 5R65, Auto- 8L55, 8L35 & 7C46 Quartz movements are reserved for the Master Series of divers. Seiko/ Grand Seiko makes great watches at $200-$15,000 price points. I’ve owned/own many of Seiko’s best divers. I still have my Emperor, MM300 & SD MM600 & a couple of Turtles. These new SBDC051-053 & 061/63 are excellent divers for the money as long you get one with no alignment issues and fun’s fairly accurate. 🍻
Nice review Bro 👍 Bruce, comparing turtle srp77X and the Marinemaster200 (SBDC061) comfortable speaking how do you compare them? SBDC061 bracelet is tapperd in 20 or 18mm? Thanks a lot!!!!!
Simeon Aleksiev it has a lot of the same design cues. But much thinner and more comfortable on wrist. Better crystal. The MM300 is noticeably nicer finished, love the expanding clasp, and the handset is one of Seikos best they’ve ever done. MM300 definitely the nicer watch but the price difference will be huge soon!
I would have said Seiko a couple months ago but it looks like the Seiko magic wore off for me. I now have an Oris Divers 65 and would highly recommend the Aquis. However, I'm not too happy with the bracelet/rubber strap being integrated on the Aquis but I've heard very good things (comfort and quality wise) about both.
Robert Sanchez i have the Oris aquis small date which is the 46m version for its size it is very comfortable and feel the quality all the way through you csnt get that in 061.When they compare tge aquis on you tube its always top name watch companies for a reason, should i say more
iHaejeog I have the og 65 as well 40mm and despite it not having the most crisp bezel it is one of my all time favs.. The vintage aesthetics are on point! 👍
Nice video Bruce! Come on so Seiko has some models with good alignement? hihihihi, paying premium maybe. Still it is so annoying to still receive or buy or see those Seiko's hitting the street with bad alignement. Sorry but i think they should shame themselves. Maybe cut a pinky winky to show some mea culpa from the directors. Again, thanks for your great videos Bruce! all the best.
The dial and hands are not as nice to me... nowhere near as nice but it has a nicer bracelet and at half the price it makes a lot of sense. But that older mm300 dial with Marinemaster on it is one of kind... and the hands looked amazing and fit that watch so well.
