ROUND 2 lineup: Stihl vs EGO, ECHO, Husqvarna, Oregon, WEN and DeWalt. In round 1, the 60V DeWalt outperformed the other brands, winning the showdown. Saws tested in 3 events: 2 cutting speed tests on 4x4 lumber and 1 test on hardwood. Battery charge time and run time under continuous load, noise level, and no load sprocket speed tested. I purchased all of the chainsaws tested. Thanks for supporting the channel!

Purchased the Echo 8 months ago. I've run chainsaws professionally for many years. Wear and tear on my arm and shoulder when starting had me checking out cordless saws. We've always used commercial grade Sthils and Husqvarna's so I was a bit concerned about the Echo's performance. That said I'm very impressed, runs like a demon, really as good as your tests suggest. No issues after lots of brush clearing and multiple cords of firewood.

That's what I was thinking. I am actually not much of a tool user (yes, why do I watch these videos? Because you never know, and they're entertaining), but I'm aware that DeWalt has a ton of electric products and their batteries tend to be interchangeable, at least to an extent (I'm not sure what if any restrictions they might have, presumably some batteries aren't designed to be used with some of their tools). Yet I don't recall the Echo brand. Might have seen something of theirs in an older video, but I can't recall. So, the long term availability of their replacement batteries is suspect IMO.

Awesome comparison video. So easy to follow, the design of the tests make perfect sense and the graphs make it simple. Only suggestion would be to add a final tally graph. When searching for my new saw, I had to look at the video over and over to see what battery power was being used. I was going to buy the echo but do not like the fact that I need tools to adjust the screws on the bar. I had a gas Stihl that ran for 15 years and that was the one thing I hated. I ended up down to Dewalt and Ego. I decided to purchase the Ego CS1604 as it uses a higher capacity battery than the one tested here and made a difference when comparing. I am sure the Stihl is a great tool as I owned one but cannot justify the price for home owner usage. Would love to see another comparison using the same battery power and blade length. Awesome!

This fact speaks to the need to explore various options in a scientific and unbiased format in order to pick the best tool for the job whether your eye is toward overall value, maximum performance, or just what to stay away from at all costs! @@SnifferSock yeah I really do like Stihl chainsaws. I now have a new Husqvarna that I purchased a couple of years ago and I say it's new because I haven't run but about maybe a gallon of gas through it. The only reason I changed to husky is because the Stihl dealer here in town has really suck service. Where I bought my first Stihl chainsaw and later weed eater at some 40 odd years ago got too old to deal with everything and sold the store and they decided on not carrying outdoor power equipment anymore. I still have that old 028 and an old 031 or 3 2 but they need gas line filter assemblies and they don't make them anymore. I even told the guy look if you'll do this to fix it and he says we don't jerry- rig. Well I was already down pretty bad in health but I'm getting a little better so I just got to get my glasses on, buy me some tubing, any kind of filter that I can attach it to and I will replace my own gas line assemblies I just hope I can still get a carburetor kit. And unfortunately there are manufacturers that will only agree to make parts for their equipment even like washers and dryers, for maybe 10 years some maybe 15 but then again other companies decide to make Parts on for several more years. So go gas and go Stihl and now that I own a Husqvarna go Husqvarna too! I don't guess I'll be switching to Electric for long time. happy cutting to you! And have a wonderful Christmas!

As a female, I developed a fondness for the Stihl MS201-T some years ago because of its lower weight, easier handling, and great cutting. A great round-up between this one and the earlier one. Thanks for including the EGO. Although the Echo is amazing, I would opt for either the DeWalt or the EGO simply because I've invested in those battery technologies already around my house. The DW already has a great battery, but with the EGO, I'd buy the bare tool and use my other 5.0 amp hour batteries with the chainsaw. Those are just some additional things to consider besides just performance; things such as battery conformity and what you already own as that will reduce the "entry price" into a new tool. Great job. I love your videos!

So the average runtime is around 6 to 7 minutes, with recharge time around an hour and a half. So let's say you run 6 minutes out of 10. You're going to need an extra 9-10+ sets of batteries to keep going for an hour and a half (60% run 40% rest). Which probably equates to about $4 worth of gasoline.

I think for pure productivity the gas saw will win, but when you are doing work that requires you to stop cutting to perform other tasks (brush clearing for example) then the electric saw is nice and you don't have to pull start it over and over. That is especially tough when it is colder. I use my wife's little Dewalt for clearing willows and alder on trails and it is so much nicer than a gas saw. But if I have to cut the trail from the start, or some other messy hard and constant cutting it's the gas saw every time.

Yes, but if you only need a saw to take care of an occasional tree limb that comes down,a battery powered saw will pay for itself in spades due to the lack of a repair bill. Not to mention the fact that every Stihl dealer (currently up to 4) I've ever taken a saw to for repair work has ALWAYS said my saw was beyond repair and would have to be replaced. The last such occurrence they told me the saw had no compression. I checked it myself and got 150 psi. Put a new sparkplug in it, and it's been running great ever since. I heat with firewood, so it's gas for me, but the battery powered saws have their place.

Also, the "RPM of the motor isn't quite so relevant as the chain speed which is a factor of the motor RPM AND the diameter of the drive sprocket. There has to be a balance between in engine torque and sawchain bite (aggressiveness) and drag by the size of the bar and chain. Chain speed "does the math" between the motor RPM and cog size. In gas saws we can change the drive sprocket according to our sawing tasks and other parameters of setup.

Have been using the ECHO for past 10 months or so. Awesome saw. Have 2.5 acre lot in urban environment. So easy to pick up the battery powered saw - whereas in past would just put it off due to hassle of getting gas ready, etc. Thanks for the information.

@@ProjectFarm Thanks for the reply. I was thinking maybe you could test different glues in heat and cold. Not by brand but by type so we know whats best for what application.

Situational perk to this is that if you have other DeWalt 60/20v tools, it's almost too good to pass up. The fast charger that comes with some of the kits would also improve the efficiency.

I think DeWalt wins, their 60v series batteries have a lot of juice. If I started again, would go either Makita or DeWalt, I think. Oh well, cheaper to stick to the ones your friends use for when you gotta borrow a battery quick.
