I agree totally, because in the books even Barristan Selmy was impressed by Jaimes' martial talent. If he had shown his full potential then the removal of his hand would have been as crucial as it was in the books. It should have been more obvious to people that don't understand the dedication that it takes to get to the level of skill that he was supposed to have. It would be the equivalent of a ballerina that is said to be the best in the world getting her foot cut off because of something as petty as envy.

I mean when he's captured its mentioned that he cut through 12 of Robbs retinue in order to get to him, only being caught because his sword was stuck in one of his bannerman's skulls. Keep in mind a Kings retinue is no normal soldier. Their basically mid tiers like Jory, Jon, Jorah, Dickon, and so on. Lordlings, squires, lords basically given formal martial training and the best equipment money can buy.

Joffrey’s just a very nasty and unlucky mix of spoiling from his mother, neglect and excessive scrutiny from his “father,” deep seated insecurities both as a man and a king and overcompensating for them, incest-related chemical imbalances in his brain, and being told by everyone that he’s entitled to everything as king with no consequences.

Sorry, but not sorry, Jaime was the REAL main character of this show. He didn't have any special fate or any plot armor, he didn't have a moral compass make choices for him, or anybody who showered him with unconditional support. He made HIMSELF crawl out of his villainous pit, he carried HIMSELF to redemption, he made the right choices ON HIS OWN.

A shame it was wasted as it was. The actor said multiple times on how much hate he received from fans of the show on his portrayal of Joffrey. Not because he wasn’t good at it, but because he was good at it. Received so much hate that he gave up on acting entirely, and will likely never return to it. How there are people with such a twisted view of the world in that they can’t separate fictional TV or movie characters and the real people who play them, I will never know.

There's a quote in an old Samurai manual, where it mentions the seemingly paradoxical nature of wearing ornamentaions, colors and accoutrements that draw a lot of attention to oneself in a situation that one would prefer to survive. That if one were to see those men, kill them and you will be paid handsomely. However, it did offer the candid warning of how one must keep in mind that despite all of those huge neon signs displaying their wealth, "When you meet them on the battlefield... it's because they're still alive."

hah true...I remember the new episode was out on HBO in my country later in the day and I had just enough time to watch it on big tv before my mom got home (I prefer watching movies and tv shows by myself in peace and quiet). When Oberyn died she came home like 40 seconds after the episode ended :D she started asking me why am I so white and trembling :D I didn't know what to tell her...I knew he was going to die because I read the books but the way they shot it and his screams were just too much for me :D

D&D totally messed up Ser Jaime Lannister’s character development. I was hoping there would be a surprise arc where Ser Jaime is the Prince that was Promised and ends up killing the Night King while sacrificing his own life doing so. In that way, “the Kingslayer” dies with the honour he so stridently coveted.

Right? He literally already had the nickname kingslayer (foreshadowing much?), he was reborn admist salt and smoke (when he killed the mad king, the smoke of people burning and the tears of people crying), the bloody star could be a lot of things, the mad king himself or in the show they literally have a red star behind the iron throne (at least early seasons) etc. I really love the jaimy azor ahai theory. Before the final seasons of the show I really hoped they'd go with that.

I was so disappointed when he left Brianna to go back to Cersei. I wish the scene where they die would have been a scene where Brianna was outside the red keep and sees Jamie, but Jamie seed Cersei inside through the window and she sees him, but instead goes with Brianna to safety or SOMETHING that shows he’s chosen her and GODD instead of Cersei and evil.

It's not that simple. Cersei was still his sister and he still loved her. It wasn't like he was eloping with the Night King. At any time Cersei could have gotten the hell over herself and developed some humility. There was always that chance for redemption.

He murdered his first king, got caught up in a war while the second king died, third king was poisoned under his watch, fourth king committed suicide while he was away at Dorne to save his daughter (spoilers), who also died under his watch, and died while failing to save the queen. Everyone that’s bitching about him dying with Cersei obviously knows nothing about loving someone unconditionally. Jamie becoming a better person didn’t end his love for his sister. People are complicated, life is complicated. Very few things are absolute.

There's such thing as not loving someone in your own family. Some people just don't get love because they simply don't deserve it. The writers were going with the safest option to end his character🤷‍♂️ Dave and Dan, through the whole show and everyone under the bus because they just wanted to be done with it.

There are mothers who still visit their children in prison after they’ve brutally murdered and/or raped other people. Why? Because they never stopped loving them, despite their atrocities.

I sometimes wonder if Martin planned for Jaime to lose his hand from the very beginning or whether he just came up with it when he decided to give him his pov in book 3....cause it's probably the best katalysator for a character development that I have ever seen...it started a chain reaction that completely turned Jaime around...by far the best character in the books

They totally destroyed his character arc in the last season, i thought he would become the one to kill Cersei or atleast something important, but the way his story ended along with all the other imp characters should become a case study of how a brilliant series was killed off.

But if you have any life experience at all you know people throw away their own character development all the time. Martin was aiming for a more realistic fantasy saga, if that makes sense. Obviously not 100%, but he didn't want to fall back on tropes. Having the "good character development" characters always make the right choices is a trope.

I actually disagree. It's a uniquely tragic ending and actually indicative of the toxicity of Cersei more so than a failure of writing. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't escape her gravity. He chose to die in a crypt with the woman he loved, his sister of all people, rather than complete his redemption. It would have been amazing to see him survive as Hand of the King to Bran Stark, the boy he attempted to murder by shoving him out of a castle window. I'm not sure he ever believed he deserved the honor and glory, not even by slaying the Mad King. It always made him uncomfortable and he couldn't believe in his own happy ending. I just think he felt like he wasn't worthy.
