When you purchase a brushless motor or speed control, you may be surprised to see and learn that they don't all come with connectors. These connectors are in many cases an item that we must solder on to our ESC and motor. Selecting the correct connector for an application is important.
If you select a connector to solder on to your ESC or motor and that connector gets hot under load, this is a sign that the connector is not large enough. The connector is not able to handle the amount of power being drawn through it leading to waste heat. With enough waste heat produced by the connector, it can become unsoldered leading to a critical and very serious failure.
A bonus tip not mentioned in the video is to also consider the ESC / motor wire gauge. Using a connector that has a wire entry hole smaller than the size of the wire may force you get creative as to how to make it work.

Very well done, thank you. I'm an RC noob and my motor male connectors are too small for the ESC female sockets. I must have the wrong ESC/motor combo.

Wow thanks I was wondering if your setup only requires a 10 gauge wire is it okay to put a 8 gauge wire and same question for connectors far as 5mm vs 8mm will your system run cooler and better with bigger connectors and bigger wires

Nice chart and very handy. Has anyone ever tested this? The problem is, search for example 2mm bullet connector and you'll get ranges one saying 20A max to 35A max. And to make it even more confusing, some will even say maybe 20A continuous load and 30A peak like discharge rate of a Lipo. Have a look on the webpage of Dronetrest and compare the values they have for the different connectors. When in doubt, play it save and take the most conservative value from multiple searches. But don't put 8mm bullets on your toothpick or Nanohawk.

Great tips, thanks! Just my 2 cents: wherever possible, I use anti-spark connectors for my battery leads as an extra precaution.

I use the standard 1/10 connectors I’ve never had issues with these connectors just esc’s

Bullet connectors for the most part are the standard connector for the ESC to motor connection. Which do you use?

@@RCexplained 4 mm gold , the esc was the weak point I don’t even think the connectors got warm , was only running 2s but it was a China system

bro i plugged my hair clipper in wrong current, however the motor didnt burn the small green board attached to it burnt the motor is a 110v dc motor and when i connect it to 110v its just vibrating its not spinning. how can i get it to spin?
@RCexplained
@RCexplained 3 года назад
A 110v DC motor requires a 110v AC to 110v DC rectifier. This is assuming the 110v you plugged in to is an AC outlet.

There is nothing wrong with simply soldering the wires together on the motor if you figure out the polarity first...
