trycicletomars Depends on if you're a fighter or heavy crewchief. In all honesty fighter crew chiefs work a lot harder. You have to really like it cause it's probably the toughest work you'll ever do. A lot of 12 hour shifts and putting up with a lot of bs. In my opinion it's all worth it though when pilots compliment "your" jet and notice the pride you put into "your" jet
As a Security Policeman (1972-1993), I felt the best ranks were SSgt since it was the first rank you truly earned on your own through WAPS testing and MSgt, as it was my opportunity to manage large organizations. I enjoyed the challenge of management and the responsibilities associated with the job. After 25 years, still miss the Air Force.
When you're a technician, the best at your job, with years of experience, and you love the hands on, then you are doomed for promotion. It becomes an entirely different scenario where you're a manager which takes you away from what you knew. For me becoming a senior NCO was when I became the most disillusioned with my job. They load you down with additional duties which, as a supervisor, makes it increasingly difficult to stay on top of mission technical changes. You're thrust you into an environment where politics outweighs performance and you're asked to do more with less. Great place to be. I think the current leadership, and it's problems, is just as indicator of how the AF has changed and changes that are still to come. I was proud to have served but glad I'm out.
I leave for Basic on Tuesday and your videos have helped me a lot. I'm gonna be in tactical aircraft maintenance and I signed up for a 6 year. thanks again love your vids keep up the good work
I have been in 32 years and am currently a Major. There are days when I wish I could be an E-1 working on some task. Of course having the O4 pay while doing it would be great.
Back in the day (70's) SSgt was the best rank. 4 under 4 even better. More riding, less walking. Less standing out in bad weather. No body messes with a law enforcement SSgt. Not even supply.
Great video! Medical is mostly different - there are leadership positions, but also the regular rank & file doctors/dentists will promote all the way to O6 even if they never hold leadership positions, just to stay in line with civilian salary and status for time in field for those careers. Let me know if you have any questions about USAFA, and medical careers (seems like you might be interested since you plan to major in biology).
@7xXDougieXx7 not my career field personally, but I have spent a lot of time as a patient in PT, which makes me think that I should have gone into that instead! It really depends on what you like to do! If you like human anatomy, and are interested in how muscles, joints and bones work, then I think it's a great career. One bonus is that it is a 9-5 job, you'll never be on call as a PT. Another bonus is that you get to make people better in really important ways, helping them overcome pain and disability. There are also really cool opportunities to work with special forces units as a PT. I think it's a great career, and one that I would look into more, if I were to do things again.

"Back in the day" (I'm talking about the 1960's & before) the best AF rank was "Warrant Officer" (incl WO-1 thru WO-4). W.O.'s were neither enlisted men (though they generally advanced FROM enlisted) nor commissioned officers, so the result was that no one wanted to step on their toes or knew exactly what authority they had over them. So everyone more or less (incl senior officers) granted them wide autonomy...the Best of both worlds indeed! They were even addressed as "Mister..."! The AF W.O. ranks were (unfortunately!) phased out.
it really matters on your job, some jobs in the air force really require you to still be mostly a "worker" even up to a tech sergeant. You might be leading crews, but you still might be there with the crews doing the work. You really don't get into a full time administrative position where you are fully overseeing airman as your full time job till you become a Master Sergeant.
I was a six year enlistee, made E-3 at the end of basic. Made SrA BTZ (below the zone), and had 21 months TAFMS. Missed SSgt first shot, got it on B cycle. I enlisted at 17, and sewed on SSgt at age 20. You can stay SrA as long as you want..you would be stupid. Get promoted, early and often.

I would say E8, your kinda the in between guy and ur troops are responsible enough to knw better and take the blame. Second is the E7, ur the boss but u take the blame, but it's too high of a rank for anyone to actually do anything to u, beside wait until u retire. Third is the E6, u don't take the blame the E7 does, and u don't hav to do the work of a soldier or sgt 👍
Pretty good synopsis on the enlisted rankings, pros and cons. I have two nephews are enlisted in the USAF: The older one is a TSGT and the younger one is a S.A, getting ready to promote to SSGT. For myself, I was navy, however our enlisted rankings are similar: E4 - E9 would be from Petty Officer 3rd Class all the way to Comman Master Chief.
eternal senior airmen here. E4 all day. i did one bid and got out with good paper and a skill in medical. i loved my time in but glad i got out when i did.5 years and out. Go chair force... lol.
I am going into my junior year of high school and I am very interested in the airforce academy. Is there any advice you can give me to give me the best chance at succeeding? I know grades are important but I want to know what are the minimum requirements for gpa? SAT/ACT? Or any other advice on how to get the best chance at getting accepted into the Academy.

U won't start as a airman if you are in afjrotc in high school you'll be whatever rank you left off in afjrotc for example I'm a C/ SSgt Vinson if I graduated I would be a Staff sergeant in the air force
King Haley Nope, you might be sent to a military jail. I once knew an airman who was amazing at his job and super respectful to his higher-ups and he was caught trying to bring a girl onto a base, and he was immediately stripped of his flight wings and dishonorably discharged.
