Brushes mentioned: Chikuhodo GSN 10, Smith 235 & 247, Wayne Goss 04 & 18, Hakuhodo J5522, MAC 217

Love this! Thank you for doing an overview, I have hooded kids and at just starting to build a brush “set” that really work for my eye shape. I loved the 217 but it’s slightly scratchy, definitely picking up the Hakuhodo.

The "black" line of Hakuhodo is very reasonable (vs the red line) and I think they are same as the red line in many cases, just with different handles. I wish there was a place nearby to look at them in person. The few I have, I really love!

@@TheHoodedLid I've been binge watching hakuhodo/chikuhodo brush videos since that's the closest I can get to, too. Definitely going for the black line! I think i'll go for the goat hair, but the goat/squirrel mix sounds interesting too

Will you please recommend eyeshadows that are soft,creamy and easy to blend? The Bobbi Brown cream sticks look dry and patchy on me. What brush works best to blend or maybe how to blend best because when I do the windshield wiping motion I get skipping on my lids. I have to stretch my lids a little to prevent the skipping. I hope I’m making sense. Thank you so much. Your videos are incredibly helpful ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

This video made me subscribe, very informative. But I can’t afford any of these brushes since I’m on a student budget 😩

While these are not drugstore prices, they are not more expensive than, for instance, MAC brushes. And they will last you for years and years. One way to look at is a Beauty Blender is 20 bucks and only last a month or so. Whereas a $20 brush will last for years. You might want to build a brush "wardrobe" slowly and over time you'll have maybe five solid brushes that you can depend on. The hard part is you have to get them online, so if you decide to get one, check the return policy, you don't want to get stuck with a brush that doesn't work for you when you're on a budget. For a long time, I only used one brush, because I didn't really know what I needed. It did a good enough job, but it made my job a little harder (a lot more blending)because it wasn't ideal for hooded lids.

Finally someone who really understands hooded eyes! Thank you so much! Would you recommend the MAC or the Wayne Goss?

I have not tried the MAC brushes since they went synthetic - they used to be goat. I think it's handy to have both syn and natural as they behave differently. But I recently did another brush video you may want to watch before deciding what brushes you want to add to your collection.

Can you do a video on other brushes you use? Possibly face/cheek brushes you’d recommend?
@TheHoodedLid
@TheHoodedLid 4 года назад
Sure! I don't really use too many face brushes, but I'd be happy to do it maybe next week!

What brush do you use for cream eyeshadow? Like after you use caviar sticks
@TheHoodedLid
@TheHoodedLid 3 года назад
I don't use brushes with cream all that often, but when I do, I go for a fluffy like Mac 217 (? - it's been so long, I can't remember maybe it's 218). Sigma has something somewhat similar.

Any affordable options?
@TheHoodedLid
@TheHoodedLid 4 года назад
I can't personally recommend any. You could use the same ideas about shape on density and apply them to cheaper options for sure. For me, I have a lot of issues with the eyes and find there's a big difference with quality brushes. Most are about $30 and will last for years if you take good care of them. Whereas a Beauty Blender is $20 and if you use it every day, will last a month. For me, fingers for foundation and build a brush wardrobe of 4-8 brushes.
