First like on first comment on new channel xD I need your opinion Jarrod, is the RTX 2060 variant msi gs66 worth it ? i mean its still 2000$ cad, can get a 9th gen with RTX 2070 for that .. :v what do u think ?
Depends if you need its features like big bettery/disable optimus/thunderbolt/design etc, a 2070 will outperform the 2060, so just comes down to what your priority is, though a 2060 is a good sweet spot for the money in general you're paying more for not as much of a boost with higher GPU options.
It feels weird seeing ur face and hearing your voice at the same time. Im so used to just hearing ur "podcast"ish voice. and i say this in a very positive way!
Thanks to your other reviews of this laptop I wound up picking up the same i9/2080S model and am absolutley loving the thing. It has crushed everything Ive thrown at it. Such a crazy fast, small machine.
Great review mate. I'm new to the PC gaming world and picked up this laptop very recently after weeks of deliberation and stock shortages on literally all computing products right now. I was upgrading from my old HP work station laptop I got back in 2011 (yes, an upgrade was long overdue lol); working in the entertainment and gaming industries I needed something I could handle, create and edit multi media content on, whilst enjoying some high end gaming on something that would last me some years ahead, it's delivered in every facet. I didn't want to spend a lot of money with the current world climate; I scored a great deal on the 2060 configuration with an xbox controller and cooling pad so I'm a very happy customer. It's handled everything I've thrown at it including 4K gaming when connected to my TV. The laptop's a beast.
Hi Jarrod I just want to say thank you for making excellent laptop review. I bought MSI GS66 today and I just love it. Keep making laptop review videos Jarrod, I will watch each of them.
One of the best reviews I've seen so far. Thank you for your work, it's really helped me with deciding upon a new PC. I was on the fence between the GS66 and the Razer Blade. Finally, I've decided that there's just so much more bang for the buck with the GS66 altough the Razer may feel more "premium". The port selection blows the blade out of the water, the storage options as well... Who pays upwards of 2000$ and settles for 512 GB, seriously now.... Since they upgdraded the build quality from the GS65 and people are constantly praising the keyboard of the new model, this seals the deal. On top of all that they throw in Windows Hello with every model (Razer doesn't) AND the battery is 20% bigger. Thanks a lot mate. I'll make sure t0 send other people your way when in need. Cheers!
Cheers! Yeah that's the impression I get too, GS66 probably cheaper but Blade probably bit nicer build quality as it's a single block of aluminium while the GS66 is thinner metal and folded. Hopefully I can get the 2020 blade soon to do a dedicated comparison video with the GS66 showing all the differences in depth 😁
@@JarrodsLaptops That'd be great! Oh and also, in Europe, you get double the warranty with the MSI. For me, and I'm sure a lot of people this will also be a very important point. From some retailers you may even get 3 times as much warranty that for a Blade...
Nice bro I'm happy u got a new laptop I also recently picked it up as well my version is from best buy 2070mq 240hz and I'm loving the build quality although I wish the gpu was a bit better
I just bought the new MSI-GS66 series and the laptop is equipped with an RTX 2070 Max Q and 240hz gaming display and 10th-Gen Intel i7 processor and let me tell you this laptop is amazing it runs all games at ultra high settings. The computer has a hard & solid feel to touch and it doesn't feel cheap and looks modern without any crazy designs and looks clean and sharp so this laptop won't go out of date as fast compared to other laptops though do take note that fingerprints can show but the laptop comes with a microfabric cloth so don't worry or just use a TV cloth to wipe the laptop clean. Also take note that the fan can get loud sometimes but that's expected for a mid-high range gaming laptop but you can change the fun speed to silent mode and also the mouse-pad feels stable and doesn't make cheap clicking noises when pushing down on the mousepad. I do want to mention that I also own a MSI-65 series with Nvidia 1660Ti and I'm a big gamer so I do recommend this laptop to any big gamer. www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-gs66-stealth-15-6-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i7-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-rtx-2070-1tb-solid-state-drive-core-black/6409057.p?skuId=6409057&ref=212&loc=1&extStoreId=484
Excellent review. Thank you very much for telling us what type of USB Type A ports are being used here. You're one of the few reviewers who bothered to tell us that these are USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gigabits / second) type of ports. Overall, an excellent review
New channel? Nice! I've been looking at picking up a GS66 for content creation (RU-vid Videos, and some 3D modeling). With the RTX2070, 10750H, and 240Hz configuration its the cheapest 10th gen thin and light. I considered the 2020 Razer Blade Base model as well but it's more expensive, doesn't support power over USB-C, and has a tiny battery. The Aero 15 was also a consideration but I had bad luck with the 2018 model and their buggy software. If only the GS66 had a 4K option and SD card reader I'd be a happy guy. Any other models I'm overlooking?
@@JarrodsLaptops the mag 15 is nice and 2060 is boosted nicely so it will run sometimes faster than the 2070mq . I returned mine cuz I wanted a better screen the mag 15 is good but the gs66 looks better to my eyes and MUX switch is cool . Both will be awesome the one thing I don't like is stupid 75c on gpu temp limit on the Mag 15 . The mag 15 is way lighter and they're costumer service is awesome . I'm not of the touchpad on the mag 15 it would always get stuck on my unit but the gs66 it's wonderful in comparison soooo smooth not ons gets stuck or freeze. To me the msi fans aren't as loud or equally just not as annoying hum at least to my ear. Also u can overclock ram easily on both to 2933 easily .
MSI had announced the Creator 15 which is the same as GS66 EXCEPT it’s has an SD card reader! but they actually sacrifice 2 of USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports for that SD card reader. www.notebookcheck.net/MSI-Creator-15-Up-to-an-Intel-Core-i7-10875H-NVIDIA-GeForce-RTX-2080-SUPER-and-a-99-9-Wh-battery.467549.0.html
bought this laptop for studio and photography work. It is astonishingly amazing. Especially when I had to pay 400€ more for the creator 15 having only SD card and 32Ram. hard to find a laptop with so many ports and so good specs and colour calibrated screen (even if not the brightest) at this price. A bit loud but I don't care so much. Great laptop in a whole

@@JarrodsLaptops i currently have an Asus Gl502VS with a 1070. It's almost 3 years old. I want to see any Asus 17 incher with 2070 or higher. But any brand is fine too.
Shorter video, but still much more detailed and engaging than other laptop reviews. Very epic. What a huge improvement over the GS65. Still not a fan of the wide trackpad and keyboard layout, though.
@@JarrodsLaptops we really appreciate your hardwork, now instead of going through various sites, all we have to do is to find your video on it, and that's it. Your videos have been very detailed and comprehensive, and we really appreciate all the tedious charts you have to compile in order to find good info. Kudos to you for all that.
Great review! Considering that a large chunk of the videos on the main channel is over laptops, are you planning on putting out different types of videos? Or simply splitting up the content between the two?
Thanks! The plan is to keep the main channel as is, a mix of stuff I like but mostly laptops, but then to focus on shorter laptop videos here. Basically when I write the conclusion/summary of the 20+ min reviews, I realised that they could be stand alone videos that would be better for less tech savvy people, and that's what this is meant to be.
8ms response time??? That is way more than advertised... please If you find anything about whether if this slow response time is only on the new 300hz panels because its not optimized yet, or is it on every panel on their lineup... I'm planning to get the 240hz 3ms advertised with the rtx 2060... Great value for the price
Although it will vary by panel, it depends how they decide to advertise it. You can see how many data points I get to get the average here: jarrods.tech/how-i-test-laptop-screen-response-time/ some companies will just pick the slowest transition time and work with that, though mine was still 4.5ms.
I have a gs66 with the i7 and rtx2070. What I have done to deal with the higher temperatures is to lower the maximum utilisation of the CPU to approx 90%. (This is an option in the power settings in Windows.) Now the CPU stays below 70 degrees C when playing cod warzone for instance. Sure, I do loose some CPU performance but I think it can be worth it when considering the gains with noice and heat while gaming. I am happy with my purchase.
Nice, good to hear! I only recently started experimenting with locking the CPU to base clock, can definitely help improve temps - personally I prefer max performance at the expense of heat, but that's me, either way good that there is the option.
When I looked at the FPS I was like WOW that's really good, but soon realise it's the 2080 S Max Q then I was like aww damn, that's $4300 for this model...
The GS66 costs around 2400 euro here. Way over my budget. So I purchased the GS65 stealth thin for 1250 euro. The package was just opened and that's it. A complete new system LOL!
So theoretically, if I were to get a new MSI laptop, purley for gaming and internet, should I get the new stealth model, or should I wait for the GT76 Titan models to come back in stock?
They're kind of two entirely different things, thin and relatively light, or thick and massive barely portable. Depends more on whether or not you need the portability, if not then I guess the Titan will perform better if you don't mind the size/weight/low battery etc.
I returned the blade 15 for this laptop. Mainly due to the lack of storage and the msi having a second m.2 slot. I think you get more for the money with the msi. The blade may have better finish, but the msi has it under the hood. I have the 2070 max q and it does what I need it to. I have a cooling pad to help with Temps as yes, it does get hot. I think they all do as thsts a lot of hardware packed into a small frame. I am really liking this laptop and definitely recommend it.
@@JarrodsLaptops yeah I was also using last years model of the blade so there's a difference there. One of my biggest complaints was the blade got pretty hot but I think thats common with gaming laptops.
Great work, please include the following in each review: 1- Is the video output connected directly to the graphics card? if yes, does it do so through HDMI or the Displayport 1.4? This important for performance and for G-SYNC support. 2- How the laptop performs plugged to the charger vs unplugged? 3- If the laptop can be charged through the USB type C port, what is the minimum required voltage/wattage? Thank you very much for your amazing work.
I cover that sort of nitty gritty detail in the dedicated reviews on the jarrod's tech channel - it is not the point of these more informal conversations.
My GS66 came in yesterday and I've really enjoyed it so far. Only downside is that it has an Intel CPU instead of a Ryzen. Can't wait for the day when we have better quality CPU's in high end gaming laptops
@@JarrodsLaptops Do you know of a way to increase download speed? I was trying to download WoW earlier but it was downloading slower than my old windows pc from 2008
I bought this laptop and have been having this issue. The screen sometimes flickers, lines appear, and then goes black. I have to close the lid so it goes to sleep or restart the laptop every time it goes black. Any advice on how to fix this problem?
It's a good time for windows or laptop companies to introduce variable refresh rate as those 300hz panels are using alot of battery even while watching plain youtube You are getting an Extra 2Hr battery life
Hi Jarrod! I need your expert opinion. Which would be a better buy? Option A: Razer Blade 15 Advanced 15.6" Gaming Laptop [300Hz][i7-10875H][RTX 2070 SUPER 8GB][16GB DDR4][512GB SSD][Classic Black] Option B: MSI GS66 Stealth 10SFS-032 15.6" Gaming Laptop [300Hz][i9-10980HK][RTX 2070 Super 8GB][32GB][1TB SSD][Core Black] I plan to use the laptop for photo editing and I might delve into video editing in the future. Both are priced exactly the same in my country at $2,981. On paper it looks like the MSI is more bang for the buck. I'm just concerned if there other factors I might not be seeing. It seems the Razer is mostly praised by gamers and some content creators. The only ones who did an in-depth look at the MSI GS66 was you. So I need your input on which one you'd recommend 😊
It's interesting that every second comment is asking for this comparison lol, I don't have the new blade yet so honestly can't say, apparently they just got them in Australia so hopefully I can compare them properly soon.
my GS66 i9 2080 model came yesterday with 1 tiny black / grey deadpixel :( can you tell me please if you have some tiny dead pixels in your model as well? mine is tiny and left side buttom. Gz for the new channel!
Dead pixels are from 3 causes: 1. Bad packaging/delivery safety 2. Manufracture issue 3. Maintainence issue Extra: personal issue 1. Spilled coffee of foreign substance on the chasis/keyboard. But other than that, the warranty would cover you.
@@rustybadger6302 I have the laptop less then 10 hours ^^ so fast to use the warranty? and Im not drinking coffee or eat sneaks while using laptop. I have OCD man, I clean my hands every min. I can not eat things while using phone, laptop, etc.. pixel just come like that when I unbox it
@@rustybadger6302 I received mine in just 1 week (shipping) but anyway if store will accept the replace, I will have to wait until the new stock. Out of stock now
The concern about battery life testing is whether or not the CPU is set to 'ECO' mode in the Dragon Center OR the aggressive throttling is disabled to reduce TDP.
@@JarrodsLaptops I have the GF63 (I think 2nd if not 3rd generation?), and unfortunately the 9th generation i7-9750h does not behave like that. Even the tiniest of tasks will force the boost clock as by default it's programmed to go max performance even on battery. I opted to disable it via registry edit. While I have not battery tested my single fan GF63 I can tell you it idles a degree lower than normal human body temperature. Used to get 70C on AC doing nearly nothing.
There's no one else that does reviews better than you man. Love the level of details you give us. BTW I just ordered the 10th gen GP65 RTX 2070. I have seen that you have listed 10th gen GP75 in your latest ASUS TUF video. I would like to know if there's any improvement with the 10th gen compared to 9th gen or it's negligible. Thanks
Thanks! Haha good eye, yeah I already reviewed the GP75, video is ready to go live but prioritized the A15 stuff first as there was way more interest there. The difference is small, basically just a 10th gen version otherwise seems the same as far as I could tell.
In India, its costing about 3700USD, on sale around 3500USD, the 2070 Max q version, Would you recommend this at this Price Point? Seems a lot overpriced to me.
Thanks, not something I can try sorry, as it's a borrowed review unit it gets sent back to MSI, if I change the default paste then the next reviewer will unknowingly report different and incorrect thermal results due to what I've done.
Always love watching your review videos! Just curious, would you say that it's worth saving a few hundred bucks by getting the Core i7 2070 Max Q Variant? Im hard pressed on which one to get and debating if its worth spending the extra money to get the Core i9
Why didn't you tell me about this? WHY DIDN'T YOU TELL US ABOUT THIS? I thought this is a random channel who re-uploaded your video.. nice video anyway 😂
Hi Jerrod. am great fan of your videos. Would you consider showing how to enable undervolting in this laptop? It is not something that first time shoppers of hi-end laptops (like myself) are completely comfortable with - especially considering your remark about possibly bricking the system if you don't know what you're doing in another video.
Hey, thanks! I go through enabling it in this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-4nlJkZ5PHZU.html after that if you need an actual guide to doing the undervolting, you can follow this one, the process is the same: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yNt9L3BWOFo.html
@@JarrodsLaptops Thanks for all of your hard work. I hope you are able to devise ways in the future to let your fans support you. You could crowd fund a laptop that your fans want you to review but can't afford or have imported or sent for free, etc...
I'm really in doubt about choosing between GS66 2060 or Lenovo 7i 2070mq but you told us that one has a thermal issue any suggestions? ( few frames in games won't matter that much )
What would be a better buy in terms of quieter fan speeds while playing GTA/COD/FORTNITE on medium-high settings. Plus the Adata has a 10 hour battery life while the MSI has a 99.99 wh battery but still only last max 7 hours most likely without gaming. Also which is better quality in general? MSI - GS66 stealth 10SE 15.6" Intel Core i7 - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 (with Ray tracing) - 512GB SSD -99.99 wh battery but is still 7 hours of using it Or (which is best for quiet fan speeds) XPG XENIA 1660- 15.6" Laptop - Intel Core i7 9th Gen- 32GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti (without ray tracing) - 1TB SSD - Black --94 WH 10 hour battery life as said (Fan quietness is most important to me)
That adata laptop is just a resold tongfang chassis, same as the eluktronics mag-15 which I think is actually cheaper. You can check my thermal testing videos of each, that's probably the best way to check as I include the fan noise in that video under different settings: GS66 thermal testing: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EaeMUaQvS28.html Aftershock Vapor 15 Pro/Eluktronics MAG-15/XPG Xenia thermal testing: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qDrxVxFllIk.html
On Best Buy the XPG Xenia 15.6 1660 Ti 32gb ram-- AWARD WINNING 1 TB - i7-9th gen says the graphics are integrated. (Is it possible they made a description mistake?)....XPG 1660ti has SODIMM but the MAG-15 doesn’t. ..........So the XPG have less fan noise than the MSI GS66 Stealth 10SE i7-10th gen with Rtx 2060-16 gb ram- 512 gb ssd SODIMM. I typically play GTA/WarZone/Fortnite between mid to high settings. Which is a better buy for less fan noise in general (especially for gaming) because I heard MSI is loud even when your watching a normal RU-vid video. Number 2. I want something long term that won’t give me issues when I’m in public and fans be loud for no reason. Also is it possible to add more ssd to msi gs66 stealth 10SE Also because I have lower specs (144 hertz) you think it’ll be quieter than the 300 hertz GS66 stealth i9-2070 gpu
Hi, I'm confuse to choose between msi gs 66 stealth i7/16g/512 and razer blade 15 base edition i7/16g/512. All model get same price at my country. I need most durable laptop, not for hardcore gaming. Please help me 😭😭😭

Hi Jarod love your reviews. I want to buy GS66 but people say it gets very hot. For chrome netfilx how are normal temps ? i love the stealth look and ram upgrade options for gaming. Please guide
Hey jarrod do you think you think manufacturers will start using liquid metal to cool the gpu and cpu from now to deal with the heat issue in small form laptops and news products cpming out like intels new mobile cpu and nvidias mobile gpu?
Jarrod I need the honest advice. I do creative work (architect) and im merging from a mac (mbp 15" 2017) to a pc. I´m debating over the ROG G14 with the Ryzen 9 or the MSI GS66 the lower specs. I do like more the design on the GS66 and expandability, but the G14 has more power. What do you said about Screen quality or build quality overall Thanks!! great videos If you have another option on the US$1500 budget, apreciated
G14 is more portable and much more CPU power, but the screen isn't as good in terms of colour/response time, not sure how important that is to you. Build quality is good with both, but probably an edge to the GS66. G14 is also missing some keys like home/page up etc, not sure if those are shortcuts in the software suites you're using.
@@JarrodsLaptops Thx! great help So overall, the G14 is better on the power, that is excelent. Tho Ilike the ROG size, The MSI design is better and screen, is a need, but not a must. I don´t know why the keyboard part of the G14 looks like plastic and not metal. Btw, the black G14 is real? I only see the White version, and, the 240hrz is better colour accured?
Just purchased the i7-10750H w/ 2070 MQ version of this machine. If this was your daily driver, would you do a liquid metal repaste? I'm 99% sure I will in order to keep this thing whisper-quiet with a nice undervolt.
Personally I probably wouldn't bother, but that's me, I've never applied LM personally and I don't really mind running hot under load but that's me. Maybe if I tried it out on some other machine first I'd give it a go, it's mostly the lack of experience that would prevent me trying it.
Waiting for the GE66 review so I can decide between RTX 2080 S Max Q and RTX 2070 S Max P for gaming as here in my country the GS66 is priced really high compared to the GE66.
Great video! What are your thoughts on this MSI GS66 vs the 2020 Razer Blade Advanced version? I cannot find a descent review of it with benchmarks anywhere yet, not sure if you are planning to review it - your reviews are great and I would definitely watch that! My thoughts on the 2020 Razer Blade Advanced so far is that because they power limit throttle their CPU, the i7-10875H 8-Core in the blade is going to run the same or slower than the MSI GS66 i7-10750H especially after undervolting, although I might be wrong.
Thanks! Haven't had a chance to test the new blade yet, hopefully I can get same spec one next month and compare as a lot of people are asking about that.

hey jarrod should i get the 2060 variant ? how much would the performance difference be when compared to the 2070 super max q variant and is the extra price worth paying for to get the 2070 super one with 300hz vs 240hz Also there is a new asus laptop g732 with 300hz and rtx 2070 super 115w .. can u make a comparison of gs66 with that one also has 150w 2080 super would be good to look at
I just bought gf 63 9sc model with 9th gen i5 ...... Gtx 1650 with one fan that does a great job ..... Even thermals are far better compared to previous gen. Can you take a look back to gf 63 i5 varient
Hey jarrod, im new into gaming PC’s and laptops. This particular laptop has got my attention. I was just wondering if you had any heating issues so far? They are selling this laptop over at scorptec for $4099 AUD. The specs are: -i7 10th gen, 16gb ram, 1tb ssd storage, 15.6inch 240hz and has 2070 max-q graphics card. Do you think that is a reasonable price for this laptop and its specs? Btw Love your videos, keep them pumping!
Thanks, pretty expensive, depends what you're using it for as the 2060 model should be a fair bit cheaper while also offering most of the performance, higher than that and it seems to be diminishing returns. Yeah it can run hot under load, I have covered the thermals in depth here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EaeMUaQvS28.html
