Best New Upgrade! No Man's Sky Echoes Update
The Echoes update is here for No Man's Sky, and it brings a ton of new features and changes with it. The echoes update brings a new race called the Autophage, a robot race on the outer edges of the galaxy of No Man's Sky. There are only a very few things I did in my game last night before I had to go to bed. Took care of my fleet missions and my settlement visitor. Scrapped all my extra multitools....AND.....installed the upgraded personal refiner. :D

One of the big things about the personal refiner, especially early game, is that you can free up inventory space with it, when you need it. You can just refine elements down or up to combine things or free up stack space. It's such a major QoL tool. Being able to do oxygen expansions with it when you're short on on something is just chefs kiss in my book. Now it doesn't just have your back when you have too much shit, it's also there for you when you don't have enough shit.

Yeah, when I read the patch note and came to this I immediately thought that of all the stuff /this/ is what I will be using all the time. Its technically a minor thing compared to all the big stuff, but if you know the power of the personal refiner, you know this is big.

A second update came in this morning, I guess for patches. So far I haven't encountered anything new, but I know you have to go to a pirate station. I've been avoiding videos (except this one) hoping to find stuff on my own -- but I'll be back when that fails. 😆

So you don't have to get rid of your old one you just pull it out and build the other and you can put it back in. They even have adjacent bonuses

Yes I agree that it is a cool upgrade. As a day one player I have based my play style on having a production center that I can do many actions at once. But having this option on the fly may prove more useful than I feel it does now. Still cool to have.

I'd argue the staff upgrading is more useful as while a medium refiner can be built at any base. The staff parts can not. All the same backpack refiner MK2 still very useful.

I got it. Meh. It wouldn’t let me refine Runaway Mold into nanites which is what I use my backpack refiner for most of the time. I switched back. Oddly, in the new expedition you can install both and it seems to give the double one a boost and let it refine runaway mold. Not sure which version is a bug, but there is a bug in this somewhere it seems.

While the Personal Refiner is a solid upgrade, I was having way, way too much issues with it. It caused my graphics to glitch out (smoked out my character, and left a trail of smoke (sometimes in random colors, many times as greyscale, leaving a trail of non-visibility). I was playing on the old Xbox One, will have to get my Series X hooked up and try it to see if it was just an issue with older consoles. My PC as much as I'd love to play games on it is still work in progress getting it to stop crashing randomly. Sigh.

I installed it but it won't operate. I'm trying to make deuterium, but after I put in the ingredients and power it, it will not start. If I hold down the button, the circle fills, then starts filling again, but the refiner never starts. Anyone have any ideas on the problem?

Maybe try using the hot key to start it, or the mouse if you are using the hot key, then maybe try a different recipe see if it’s that particular recipe.

For me the Xbox controller on the PC got remapped to the default hotkey bindings. Maybe that's what's up
