23:23 Just making sure I can easily find Rich's story about meeting a man at a minor league baseball game, who invited him to his bedroom to show his Warhammer figures and Wendy's ad. For future reference
Tfw you think you've made a new friend at the baseball game, you invite him around and bond over your Warhammer miniatures, but a few years later you see him and three alcoholics laughing at you in an internet review show and calling you a sex weirdo.
Mark M But deep down, he shows a genuine love of them. He uses comedy to mask it because he is uncomfortable with the truth. This is demonstrated by his unwillingness to destroy the tapes and picking them the best of the worst. I hope as he grows old and feeble that he directs and stars in his own production called Geritol Follies 2 - Stoklasa Boogalo with a special guest appearance by Rich Evans no doubt.
The Hamilton Follies (formerly known as the Geritol Follies) were shut down in July 2015, shortly after their 40th anniversary, and a bit more than a month after this video came out. They had accumulated about $100,000 in debt, because apparently nobody wanted to watch 2 hour long shows of elderly people on stage when you have the internet.
Why would we when we could watch near 2 hour long videos of drunk elderly people sitting around a lawn table in a warehouse complain about shitty VHS tapes on RU-vid.
Based on the fact that Mike chose Geritol Follies as Best of the Worst, and it was his idea to put it on the wheel, AND he defended it passionately as something that was done with noble intentions, I feel like one of his grandparents was on the tape and he secretly wanted to honor them by watching it with friends.
I remember having an assembly at my elementary school where we had a whole presentation about gun safety and we watched the eddy eagle movie, there was even a guy in an eddy eagle costume. This was the late 90s in Allentown,PA
Yeah, Eddie the Eagle is the NRA kids safety mascot. The program is basic stuff like walk away and tell an adult what you found, and to not touch guns without parental supervision. We had a presentation at my 4H rifle team meeting where they had a more advanced class for actual safe handling of guns as well.
To be fair, "Stop! Don't touch! Leave the area! Tell an adult!" seems like sound advice if some overly friendly eagle with shirt, shoes but no pants enters your playground and attepts to force conversation.
The voice of Eddie Eagle is Cam Clarke, who voiced Leonardo in the original TMNT series. I knew Eddie Eagle sounded familiar but I just couldn't place it.
DinoCoffee Truly, its a hard life. You have to strive to stay obese, without accidently being tricked into owning a home. May God have mercy on their souls.
HEY! Shoji Tabuchi!, in the first 10 seconds. I saw him in Branson Missouri. Man it was werid. He's a great violinist, fantastic. His comedy routine was hard to sit through. HOWEVER, I will never forget going to the bathroom there. No joke, his bathrooms are like decorated in black marble and gold. He has like an 1800 Billiards pool table in the men's bathroom that you can rent out for parties. If you wana throw a party in a men's bathroom where a bunch of guys gather around a table playing with sticks & balls, Shoji.
Goddammit, Rich, going into strangers' creepy houses... What is it with him always watching these safety training videos years after having times when he needed them? (Faintly, as though a great distance away, a choir could be heard, singing *"Gotta be cool about fiiire safety..."*)
From a 2020 Article on the Gulitol Follies: "Hamilton Follies board folds seniors' troupe but members vow a comeback" "But by 2013, the group was on the brink of receivership with more than $100,000 in debts. Nearly $50,000 was owed for Hamilton Place rent, something that was eventually forgiven by the City of Hamilton." "Carl Horton, a former music producer for the Follies, said changing demographics make marketing the show difficult. People in their 60s these days are boomers, part of the rock 'n' roll generation, who don't see entertainment value in what some might think are "grannies on stage," he said."
YourMovieSucksDOTorg You're the reason I have nightmares about Cool Cat coming into my house and attempting to do "cool" things to me. Why did you have to ruin my life?
If You find an Armalite AR-18 lying on the street bring it to your local nationalist cell. They will give you candy and a money reward! Fight for our freedom now!
Eddie Eagle was voiced by Cam Clarke, a prolific voice actor who voiced major characters in Robotech, Leonardo in the original TMNT series, and is still active with many mainstream productions. For a crappy home video they must have really spent some cash.
The steam roller thing is hilarious, except, my grandfather actually watched a friend get run over my a steam roller when he was a kid. That kid obviously needed to see the Eddie Eagle Steamroller safety video.
My mother had a DVD version of multiplication rap that she forced me to watch every day after elementary school to help learn. I wound up getting a music degree so I'm glad I have that full DVD burned into my head...
we watched that Gun Safety video when I was in 4th grade, all I remember is that "tell the adult" song kid me came up with a top tier parody where it was "go, do touch, stay in the area, kill the adult"
23:30....everyone leans forward to indulge in a Rich Evans anecdote that will inevitably be turned against him in some way! I really relate to Rich Evans...as I occupy a similar Rich Evans position in my group of friends...and all you can do sometimes is just sit there and shake your head in a world weary manner as the hilarity ensues at your expense...
I used to watch that Eddie Eagle video all the time. The first time, dad made me watch it because he did have a lot of guns, but all the other times were because there wasn't much to do at his house.
The YMCA is kind of a vestigial name. It has evolved into something very different than what it first was, but they kept the name because of branding. It's basically just a chain of gyms and activity centers.
24:20 Mike is only roasting Rich Evans about his relationship with Warhammer-figurine guy because Mike is really jealous that Rich went into someone else's bedroom.
Can I just say how fucking great it is that you guys found out about the corrupted first upload, took it down within the same hour, and re-uploaded a fixed version the same day? That is some high class dedication rarely seen on the internet. Please never stop being this rad.
I remember watching that Gun Safety video during a school assembly in First Grade back in early 2002. I never expected this thing to appear in my life this way. So thanks for that, you guys
No kidding, Red Letter Media is my absolute favorite channel on RU-vid! I enjoy every video SO much that I wish they could put out even more! I would give anything to be on that couch, curling beers, and laughing at these movies with Mike, Jay, Rich, and everyone else! They're all so hysterical and talented! Keep up the great work, guys!!
They showed me Eddie Eagle in elementary school back in the early 2000s. Stop, don't touch, leave the area, tell an adult has been burned into my brain since, I'm not kidding.
No joke, my grandmother actually had a copy of that Eddie Eagle VHS tape. I used to watch the hell out of that tape. Oh, the innocence of being six years old...
Regardless of how one feels about guns, it's just factual that a lot of people in America have them. Because that's not likely to change (I mean, it hasn't changed since that video came out), it's wise to tell kids these things are deadly and it's best to leave them alone. A common situation: a handgun is kept in case of a home invasion. While there would be far less of a chance for a child to find it if it was locked up in a safe, unloaded, that also prevents quick access in the event of a home invasion, defeating the entire purpose of having a self defense handgun. So maybe Dad hides the loaded gun in the bottom of his underwear drawer, or somewhere else out of sight and unexpected, yet easily accessible if you know where it is. But kids love exploring and getting into places they shouldn't. Kid finds gun while parents are away, and if the kid doesn't know what it is, or doesn't expect it to be deadly, really tragic accidents could happen, especially if the kid has a sibling and they play around with it. If they're taught what a gun is and why it's better never to touch it, that might help them to avoid it. Arguably, with the right child that is responsible and level-headed, it might be even better to get them familiar with actually using a gun, in a safe, controlled environment under the careful eye of an adult. The kid wouldn't fear using the gun, but they would also be familiar enough with using one that it shouldn't be a temptation. This is all bullshit hypothetical speculation on my part, though, don't take it too seriously.
I say the younger you get your child out to the range to get acclimated to firearms and how to treat them with respect the better. When you bar something away you only increase the temptation to discover the secrets of said taboo
Getting the child to actually use the gun is a good idea, because it replaces their imaginary idea of how cool the gun would be to play with, with the reality that it's basically a really loud stapler. It's the same as how kids quickly get bored with toys they were talking about for months before they got them: the idea of the toy is boundless, the reality is limited. Obviously supervised with the adult in control of where the weapon is pointed, you don't want to be like that instructor who got his ass killed because he let a little girl stick an NFA Uzi on fullauto.
same basic story when i was a kid. My dad took me shooting when i was 5. Guns are load scary staplers. Never wanted to touch a gun again for many years. Hollywood make guns glamorous. in real life kids are scared of them particularly when they don't have hearing protection.
It's no surprise watching this that Jack is the one saying, "Yeah, the gun safety video serves a purpose," and in another BotW video, we can see that farmer-boy Jack's the one among them who has any idea whatsoever how to aim and fire a handgun
I've seen the eddie eagle guy safety video. I live in Alaska, and everyone and there mother has a gun, so it is actually important that children understand not to mess with guns unless they are being directly supervised. I was a child. and I think it was at the Dept of Fish and Game building in our town. My dad had taught me plenty of gun safety and I had been hunting as a kid too.
