"Best of the Worst is whatever is the most tolerable to get through." - Mike Stoklasa "My pick for Best of the Worst is Shark Exorcist." - Also Mike Stoklasa
@@hayberdasher8625throughout the series he goes from taking the criteria for best of the worst very seriously to being a giant contrarian for the sake of comedy.
@@jackkingsby116oh no, no, no, you got it all wrong. He takes his contrarianism very seriously, and strictky sticks to the rules for the sake of comedy.
Rich Evans showing up in the background at 0:43 seconds while Mike talks about movies being filled with visual effects is a subtle hint to the viewers that Rich Evans is in fact just a visual effect. This is why you get that uneasy feeling when looking at him for too long in a clear enough shot because that is the "uncanny valley" effect. His audio is also 100% synthesized from various animal sounds.
So I'm watching RedLetterMedia as one does... and I watch this Best of the Worst... and when they get to the end... I realize I've seen Gymkata before...thirty years ago as a small child. The bizarreness they talk about at the end...was REALLY bizarre to a five-year-old (the guy cutting off his own hand was terrifying). For the next thirty years (!!!) I wondered what movie it was, but never knew.... UNTIL TODAY!!! RedLetterMedia, solving one lifelong childhood mystery at a time!
This taught me that somewhere in the world, there is someone who took the time and effort to create a 3D animated clip art of a flying pug with a cape.
Just to clear up the intentions of The Amazing Bulk, the director commented on another video: "Thanks for your relatively positive review of my film The Amazing Bulk. It is intended to be a spoof of Hollywood blockbuster comic book hero movies. There was no attempt to try to compete in anyway shape or manner with those mega-budget films. Please note that the entire budge for the film was $14,000 and not 140k. Some moron keeps changing the budget on the IMDB. I made the film and I paid for it out of my own pocket, I don't even have close to 140k to invest in a film." (Lewis Schoenbrun) So there you go, it was meant as a spoof...yikes.
But there are spoofs/parodies that have more effort put into them. They may not be funny/unintentionally, like The Amazing Bulk, but they don't look like shit or confuse the audience as to what it's trying to achieve. If a parody doesn't come across as a parody, then that's a big fail right there.
$14,000? That's insanity. Like literal insanity. This man should be locked away in a mental ward. Spending a few hundred dollars on such a movie would be stupid, but $14,000? Even if you completely believe his story he's still a complete moron.
I was half convinced they were straight up having intercourse with some prostitutes and put it in the movie for a tax break of some sort until I saw the guy's face.
(In a nature documentary voice) "And in the back you can see the magical Rich Evans waking up from a drunken stupor as he stumbles onto the set dazed and confused."
it's funny seeing this now in 2019 when over time they've literally watched all of the videos on that wheel of the worst save for aladdin lol edit: it is now 2022 and they have still yet to watch aladdin
Colin was an absolutely fantastic guest, and fit right in with everyone else there. Love this series so goddamn much, and it would be great if you could get him back at some point!
The bulk was made in poseur using a bunch of standard scripted animations and models. I think the Bulk is one of their troll/goblin models with a purple skin.
+poopnach I imagine they got the penis off of renderosity, if my experience with that cretinous community over a decade ago is anything to go by. Those people could model a penis onto ANYTHING.
When was a teen, me and my friends when to a midnight showing of Gymkata, I Spit On Your Grave, The Evil Dead, and something else I can't recall. It was epic!
Regarding "The Amazing Bulk": "Schoenbrun (director) stated that he never initially intended to make a bad film, but retroactively considered the film a parody." Mhm, sounds right.
I wondered if anyone else got that impression. I sort of want to look it up now to see if the footage has been sumped anywhere. Or if any of those machines are still operational.
Gymkata and American rickshaw, proof that we need to find all the movies that star Gymnasts and send it to rlm for content that will keep on giving for years
You know coming back to this years later, it's funny to know that they've now done every movie that appears on the wheel of the worst in this episode except aladin.
When I was in high school, I had the privilege of my comm teacher being one year off retirement. As a result, he had a lot of weird antiquated shit that he didn’t give a fuck about fixing. One of those things were these weird cgi transitions that I haven’t seen anywhere else than in the amazing bulk
I’ve seen other youtubers cover The Amazing Bulk, but as the back of the box is being read aloud by Colin, I’m only now realizing that they reversed the alliteration of the Hulk for the Bulk. *B* ruce *B* anner is the *H* ulk *H* ank *H* oward is the *B* ulk My god that’s dumb and I love it
Its amusing to me that film star Randal Malone appeared in the Amazing Bulk, and also appeared in the footage of Hollywood Mortuary, and Randal Malone also seems to appear frequently in other Ron Ford movies. He just happened to appear in the Amazing Bulk as yet another plus sized pervert.
In the last decade, they've worked their way through most of the films that were on this episode's wheel, leaving only Aladdin (1986) and Aladdin (1986).
The fact that RLM can make 30 seconds of film thats literally no better than that piece of shit movie really puts into perspective how lazy that production was.
We shot on mini dv which looked a lot better but yeah, that typical 480p with shit or no color grading and lack of studio lighting really sets it off =P
***** Resident Evil 4 has a completely different plot to the other Resident Evil games, including Resident Evil 3 which is the game that the movies are based on. If you've even vaguely heard of the plot to RE4 then it should be pretty obvious why the insane villagers sequence in Gymkata is reminiscent of RE4.
In the first three seconds of Plinkett's Star Wars Prequel review, I didn't understand why his voice was so weird. But then I was hooked on the style and couldn't agree more with his points, I saw all of the Prequel Review episodes and I'll most likely watch them over again. They're that entertaining. Then I saw Half in the Bag, and I really enjoy them too. I'm going to watch all of them as well. Great job guys.
Everytime I see Gymkata it makes me think of Resident Evil 4. Eastern European town where the villagers are just crazy and attack with pitchforks and stuff.
Probably came up already but that submarine v-world footage was from a ride in an amusement park. In the 1st era of 3d rides. You sat in a moving chair that moved around a bit and watch the footage. It was in the late 80, early 90's. I saw it when i was a kid at "la ronde" a park in Montreal.
