Best Practices for Monitoring Anamorphic Footage 

A Fotga A50TL user here. It features an "anamorphic zoom" option, which nicely desqueezes the image and zooms in on it at the same time, giving a 2.39:1 result that utilizes as much screen area as possible. It's a great and fairly cheap monitor.

I 2nd Fotga monitors here. The A50 and even the new E50 series not only have a 2x stretch mode, they also have a "2x mag" that crops directly to 2.39:1. In the E50 there's also a new "quick menu" that lets you setup anamorphic straight away, which is cool because I used to have an own button only for that

As with everything done to achieve success, an anamorphic shooter must perform more complicated steps. We are in search of that scope look and willing to do the work required to get it. Thanks for sharing this informative video post.

Feelworld FW568 has it as "L/R Zoom", alongside an "U/D Zoom" - enabling one to crop to the final aspect ratio even when the vignetting is so bad that the final result would require vertical crop as well. I have one and liked it so much I got another one, just in case (also very cheap)

Using a Feelworld 7´ T1. Has all kinds of desqueeze modes, and also a custom option where you can dial it in exactly.

Can the anamorphic desqueeze and crop be applied to the output page of the smallhd to send the final 2.39 image downstream to another monitor without all that extra width?

The new Ninja V firmware update yesterday now has 1.25,1.33, 1.5,1.8, and 2.0x de-squeeze options thankfully. I don't know if it has a crop or zoom option though.

The only other thing I would have liked is a list of how much each of these monitors cost to see what the best bang for the buck is... I have a s1h, with the new sirui 1.66x lens(es)... I want a cheap monitor to monitor to footage better, don't need external recordings at this time

Does anyone know if a Feelworld Lut6 can do this? Can't seem to find any info online and really would like to purchase it.

Atomos Shinobi has anamorphic desqueeze, but it only has 1.33x, 1.5x, and 2.0x, and nothing in between or the ability to set custom setting like 1.8x... etc.

Small HD are best in show for anamorphic support. Glad to see you going full width now! :)

I am on the way to buy a 5.5" monitor for my GH4 to shoot with a x2 kowa anamorphic. since the monitor shuts down while recording in photo 4:3 mode I'll use the usual 16/9 recording and output. I really wonder if the FeelWorld 5.5" touch screen or the new FeelWorld F6 Plus 5.5" 4K HDMI Monitor are capable of desqueezing then cropping the input HDMI signal and not just display the narrow 16/9 x2 stripe. If anyone could help with that before I press the purchase button that would be so nice :) thanks a lot cinemascope people

The problem I’ve just encountered is that I usually just record internally on my A7Siii and either shoot 4k and then use clear image zoom to get past the vignette or 1080p with apsc mode. When I connect my atomos ninja v and set it to record prores raw it says neither of these functions can be used. So that means it’s impossible to record this way?

I have BMPCC4K. I still don’t know is it 16:9 or 4:3.

Neither Swit nor Atomos have crop and rescale features.

Just don’t shoot with 2x lenses on 16:9 cameras. That’s what 1.33s are there for.
