Used this technique for my kitchen remodel. I tore out a plaster board wall, and did this work. No dust in the rest of the house and a happy wife. Thanks for the tip.

You should filter your exhaust air depending on how hazardous the dust is.

Great tip to control dust. I would like to suggest that buying a cheap furnace filter to trap the dust would be a good addition this way you won't be blowing dirt all over the outside of the house or someone elses house. Another good idea for the cold air and heat registers is to buy cheese cloth and cover the vents with it. This will allow air to continue to move freely without any restrictions.
@HomeRenoVisionDIY
@HomeRenoVisionDIY 6 лет назад
Unfortunately cheese cloth does not stop drywall dust form passing through it. Neither does a furnace filter. I am not concerned about the neighbors as this causes a lot less duct than road maintenance.

Came across your channel and love it! I'm looking to turn a 6' wide x 2' deep closet into a powercarving, lathe & sanding tent. My new jewelry studio/wood & lapidary shop is an attached 175 sq ft self contained casita. I did have a 690 sq ft shop but needed to be closer to family. I've seen dust and paint booths 3mil plastic with pvc. I was thinking clear shower curtains sewn together to make as a more permanent material and pvc pipe. I'm just not sure how to set it up where it can also be rolled up on the walls on each side and top or velcro around the opening and some sort of stand on each side that can give it support and velcro to it for the sides and create an entrance with a zipper. Do you think creating an air vent with a desk top cooler would be good for air and cooling? Plus I'd like to enlarge the tent 2' out to give me enough room to work but unfortunately it has to be collapsible since it next to my shop entrance. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated bc I now live in a small subdivision in the desert so all work must be done inside. Sincerely, Raven K. W. U.S.A.F

Really Informative videos. Is there a specific type of air mover I should be looking at that would handle drywall dust? Maybe something with a sealed moter and bearings? Or would a cheap one used for drying carpet hold up well? I would like to incorporate this system for my Reno's keeping the dust down is critical to so many costumers.

This might be a dumb question, but is there any way to apply this in a home that is already dusty? I assume you'd have to kick up the dust that's settled, but i couldn't find any discussion about it.

A cool trick if you don't have the ducting is just use the fan in the slider window and stuff a blanket next to it. You can hang the fan with all round strapping from the plumbing dept.

The other benefit to contractors with the plastic wall, it keeps out kids and pets and grandparents and creates a space where the client needs permission to enter. This can also be a paid for service on a larger scale.

Hey just a question about basement insulation here in Ottawa. I heard I don't need a vapour barrier if I put 2 inch rigid styro flat against the concrete. Then frame my 2x4 wall infront of that ( filling in the 16 or 24 inch on centre gaps with bat insulation of course)????
@HomeRenoVisionDIY
@HomeRenoVisionDIY 6 лет назад
Whoever told you that is incorrect! code in all of Ontario requires a super six poly whenever you use batt insulation.
@justinvilleneuve2058
@justinvilleneuve2058 6 лет назад
Home RenoVision DIY thanks the reasoning I was told was....the rigid XPS styro acts as the vapour barrier .
@HomeRenoVisionDIY
@HomeRenoVisionDIY 6 лет назад
If that was the intent then you have the vapor seal on the wrong side of the insulation in the winter. If you use both with no air space you will run into problems down the road.

@Ameds613
@Ameds613 5 лет назад
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY love the channel but I think your wrong on this one . This here is straight from nrcan.gc.ca: 6.2.4 Frame wall with batt insulation and rigid board insulation This method involves gluing rigid board insulation to the foundation wall and then covering it with a frame wall incorporating batt insulation. The result is higher insulation values with less loss of interior space, a very good reduction of thermal bridging and no need for an additional moisture barrier. Using rigid board insulation with at least R-10 (2"), secure and seal it to the foundation by applying foam-compatible adhesive around the perimeter of the foam board before fastening it to the wall. The frame wall can now be roughed in for any wiring and plumbing and insulated as noted previously in Section 6.2.3, Frame wall with single or double layer of batt insulation. Do not use a polyethylene air and vapour barrier with this approach, as there is a risk of creating a double vapour barrier with the foam board.

We do this type of thing with ventilating PC gaming computers: 1 Make the clean part of the house a positive air pressure space- pump air into the clean area. 2 Make the dirty area of the house a negative air pressure space- do not pump air into this area at all [or you can pump air out] 3 Now air will flow from the clean section of the house, into the dirty area where you are working. This way, any dust created in the dirty work area of the house, will never travel through the plastic into the clean area, because the dust would always be blown back into the dirty area. Also, your fans will not become dirty as fast because they are pumping clean air, not dirty air. [Fan] -----air flow---->> [Clean area of house] ----natural air flow---->> [Dirty contruction area with dust] ----dust blown out of house---->> [Outdoors]
