The OTOFIX D1 Lite OBDII bidirectional scan tool is powered by Autel and is probably the best deal of all scan tools on the market right now. In fact, the OTOFIX brand is owned and sold by Autel. The scan tool uses 100% Autel diagnostic software. This D1 Lite works and looks just like an Autel 808 scanner, but the hardware is slimmer and lighter weight. Not only do you get the Autel scan tool software in this device, but you get it at a cheaper price than buying it in an Autel device. You also get 2 years of free Autel updates (instead of one year if you buy an Autel scan tool) and the once the free update period update has ended, the updates themselves are cheaper than if this was an Autel scan tool. You get 100% Autel software and service but at a lower price. There really is no negatives to buying an OTOFIX device over an Autel device, but there are many positives. As mention in this video, until recently, I would tell people about a different brand/model of scan tool that was in the "sweet spot" for scan tools when comparing price vs overall functionality. Well, in my opinion, this OTOFIX D1 Lite has just taken over that "sweet spot". This device is REALLY hard to beat.
I also quickly covered the OTOFIX BT1 Lite smart battery tester in this video. That device is designed to be used along with this scan tool but it will also work with Autel branded scan tools, AND it will also work with you smartphone once the app is downloaded form the App store. I made a separate video about smart battery tester.
In the ever-evolving world of automotive diagnostics, the OTOFIX D1 Lite is a game-changer. This innovative device combines cutting-edge technology with user-friendly features, making it an indispensable tool for mechanics and automotive enthusiasts alike. With its compact design and powerful capabilities, the OTOFIX D1 Lite is set to revolutionize the way diagnostics are conducted.
One of the standout features of the OTOFIX D1 Lite is its extensive vehicle coverage. This diagnostic tool is compatible with a wide range of car makes and models, allowing users to efficiently diagnose and troubleshoot issues across various brands. Whether you're working on a European luxury car or a domestic vehicle, the OTOFIX D1 Lite has got you covered.
Equipped with advanced diagnostic functions, the OTOFIX D1 Lite enables users to access and analyze a plethora of vehicle data. From reading and clearing diagnostic trouble codes to viewing live data streams and performing component tests, this device offers comprehensive insights into the health of a vehicle. The intuitive interface and responsive touchscreen make navigating through the various functions effortless and efficient.
Another noteworthy feature of the OTOFIX D1 Lite is its wireless connectivity. With built-in Wi-Fi, users can seamlessly update the device's software and access online resources for enhanced diagnostic capabilities. Additionally, the device supports Bluetooth, allowing for easy connection with other compatible devices, such as smartphones or tablets, for data sharing or remote assistance.
The OTOFIX D1 Lite is not just a diagnostic tool; it's also a powerful performance analyzer. The device offers an array of special functions, including service resets, adaptations, coding, and programming capabilities. With these features, users can perform advanced tasks like recalibrating sensors, programming new keys, and customizing vehicle settings, taking control of the vehicle's functionality like never before.
Durability and reliability are paramount when it comes to professional automotive tools, and the OTOFIX D1 Lite delivers on both fronts. Constructed with robust materials and designed to withstand the demands of the workshop environment, this device is built to last. Its long-lasting battery ensures that users can rely on the OTOFIX D1 Lite throughout the day without interruptions.
In conclusion, the OTOFIX D1 Lite sets a new standard in automotive diagnostics. With its wide vehicle coverage, advanced functions, wireless connectivity, and durability, this tool empowers mechanics and automotive enthusiasts to diagnose, analyze, and optimize vehicle performance with ease. The OTOFIX D1 Lite is the future of automotive diagnostics, enabling professionals to work smarter and deliver exceptional service to their customers.

Hello. I have been looking for a good scanner FOR A DIY person. I’m not a professional but like to do some of my own work. I like to have quality tools but didn’t really make sense spending $600 plus for a quality scanner. This is the balance I was looking for. Autel software at a lower price. I ordered one with code. Thanks

Sorry about that. I did make a quick video announcing the name change but I only ran that video for a few days so I can see where you might've missed it. It was time for an official "youtube channel name" with a proper theme. My previous youtube name was/is ALSO my email address an it became my youtube name by default shortly after Google bough youtube all those years ago. I didn't really pick the name, it was one of those automatically generated user names. And of course now in 2023, it's VERY hard to come up with a unique user name that nobody has taken yet. Even though youtube NOW allows the same name to be used by multiple channels, only one of the channels can have the unique matching "handle" that youtube started using recently.... and I wanted the unique name, with the unique handle, unique email address, etc, etc... Thanks for noticing and thanks for the comment!

@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage 11 месяцев назад
Everything is depend on the specific vehicle that you're plugged into. If the 2005 Jeep Wrangler has a function programmed into the factory ECM that allows a scan tool to request a fuel trim reset, then this scan tool will do that. I do not have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler to plug into so I can't tell you with 100% certainty that Jeep Wranglers have that function. However, I will say, most vehicles do have that function, or something similar. If you need to know for sure, then an email to launch would probably be your best bet. Thanks.

One of the best presentations on this tool. One question, does it have the ability to enable/disable vehicle options, example enabling cruise control after required hardware is fitted.
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage 6 месяцев назад
All of that type of stuff is 100% dependent on the specific vehicle that you're plunged into at any given time. Every make/model of vehicle is different from the next. It all depends if that feature is already programmed into the vehicle's computer to begin with. If it doesn't already exists in the vehicle's computer, then a scan tool cannot command a feature that isn't there. In my experience, the ability of a scan tool to turn on/off "customization" features is usually very limited, regardless of vehicle make/model. If you're working on a Ford or Mazda, (for example) FORScan has MUCH MORE ability that ANY scan tool when it comes to enabling or disabling ANYTHING controlled by the computer. Please keep in mind, scan tools are not custom programmers, they are typically only used for diagnostic purposes, with limited customization ability. With all that said, I'm sure there is a vehicle out there somewhere that has the ability to have the cruise control enabled via a scan tool, but I don't think it's very common. However, I've never looked for that feature because I've never needed it....Thanks for the question.
@Phantom-mk4kp
@Phantom-mk4kp 6 месяцев назад
@@SlipFitGarage Thanks for a very concise answer. I realise that the tool is a slave to what feature is inside the car ECU. The question really was have Otofix fundamentally not made available that feature. I chose the cruise example as I have European Peugeot van that was sold without cruise option, but had all the tech installed apart from the plugin column stalk. I bought a used stalk plugged it in and used a pirate copy of dealership diagnostics to set it to installed All good. The problem with pirate dealership software and Chinese VCIs they are really flakey. Another classic that manufacturers charged for as an option, was holding down a remote button to open all windows and sunroof, again just a setting to be enabled One more question have you seen any difference between latest software Otofix D1 light and the plain ordinary D1, as both are still sold, but a big difference in price Many thanks in advance

what does the D1 have over the D1 Light, and can you check transmission oil temps in the D1 lite? thanks
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage Год назад
The difference between the D1 Lite and the D1 is basically unknown. Officially anyway... The only thing I can come up with, which I mentioned in the video.... there may have been a difference between the two models early last year but after July 1st 2022 when Autel put out that major update to give all Autel 808 scan tools full bi-directional control, that is when a bunch of scan tool models and marketing material became irrelevant. It is also when several other scan tool companies followed Autel's lead and gave their mid line scan tool full bidirectional control, too. The only thing I can think of..... AT ONE TIME there was a difference between the D1 Lite and the D1, but after that shift in scan tool capabilities (pretty much industry wide) that happened mid last summer, now there probably is not a difference between those two models. I have not done 100% full in depth testing by plugging into dozens of makes/models to see if there is indeed small differences but for the most part, the D1 Lite does pretty much everything my Autel 908 does.... the D1 Lite is just smaller with a smaller battery, and probably lacks some live data graphing capabilities, but not much. It is absolutely the best deal in scan tools right now, in my opinion. And yes, the scan tool does indeed have the ability to show trans temp.... as long as your vehicle's computer has a trans temp data PID to begin with. A scan tool is not magic, it can not display data that doesn't exist in the first place. And by exist, I mean exist in you vehicle's computer. If the computer in a vehicle does not monitor trans temp, then it probably does not have a trans temp sensor in the vehicle and therefore NO scan tool on earth will be able to display the trans temp on that vehicle. Thanks for the question.

Hello !!! I bought an otofix d1 lite but when I connect it to the car the service functions are not available, is it not compatible with the car? BMW x6 3.0 d 2009
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage 11 дней назад
I have no way of answering this question with 100% certainty, unfortunately. I do not have a 2009 MBW to plug in and test for myself. However, if this is true, and it does not work on 2009 BMWs, then I'm sure many others would have already reported this situation.... And I have NOT heard of the OTOFIX/Autel line of tools NOT working on any BMW. I suspect you either have a problem with the OBD2 DLC port in your vehicle, the wiring going to it, or the vehicles computer itself is having problems. What was the original problem with the vehicle in the first place that led you to buy a scan tool? I'm just trying to figure out if you are having problems with the computer in the vehicle. Not being able to "communicate" with a vehicle via a scan tool BECAUSE the computer in the vehicle is failing is actually fairly common. And lastly, does the scan tool work on any other vehicle that you plug into? If so, then it's very possible the BMW computer is the problem. And lastly, any new scan tool CAN be defective (as with any other brand new piece of electronics) If the tool doesn't work on any other vehicle, then you can just simply return it back to Amazon for a refund. Sorry for your trouble. Thanks for the question.

I am performing the update on my D1 Lite right now. I just read the release notes for the "OS" (operating system) and the "System Program" update. Both of them said the same thing..... "Improves functions and optimizes experience". So, in other words, nothing special or exciting with this update, but an update nonetheless. This type of updates come out all the time. They basically contain software glitch fixes that will improve the overall functionality of the scan tool itself. Nothing exciting but they help to streamline the device. I will let you know if I see anything that sticks out to me once my D1 finished it's updates but this just seems to be another regular update.

Do you know if this Otofix D1 Lite can access 2018 and newer Chrysler Jeep Dodge Fiat Vehicles to use the deeper bidirectional features and make changes? If not, is the AutoAuth feature available to DIY mechanics? Do you know if the XTool D7 can access these features?
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage Год назад
The D1 Lite has the ability to work with an AutoAuth account which is required to work on ANY 2018 and up Chrysler. Even if you're a DIY guy, you will still need an AutoAuth account to fully access 2018+ Fiat/Chrysler Automobiles. (FCA) The XTOOL line of scan tools still do not have the ability to work with an AutoAuth account. There is a way around the secure gateway module on 2018+ FCA by using a 12+8 Cable and that is the only way XTOOL scan tools can fully access FCA vehicles. XTOOL better get set up with AutoAuth soon, or that is going to become a deal breaker for most guys shopping for scan tools. 12+8 cables can generally be used with ANY OBD2 scan tool so even if you have an OTOFIX D1 Lite that IS AutoAuth capable, but you don't have an AutoAuth account because you're just a DIY guy, the 12+8 cable is an option. They can be a pain in the ass to use because the connecting points for the 12+8 cable on FCA vehicles are generally hidden behind interior body panels and they are not in the same spot on every vehicle. I have never used a 12+8 cable so I can't say exactly how well they work. I have a 12+8 cable, but I have yet to run across a vehicle that requires it yet. I don't typically work on new FCA vehicles. I'm sure I will sooner or later now that 2018 vehicles are out of warranty at this point. 12+8 cables are generally sold separately and they're not terribly expensive.

@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage 5 месяцев назад
Are you asking about putting a program into the FOB itself.... or, are you asking about programming a fob TO the vehicle? There is a difference. Putting a program into the FOB itself requires a "programming dock" that the fob sits in while it's being programmed. However, programming a FOB to a vehicle is usually very simple to do. And yes, this scan tool can generally program new FOBs to specific vehicles. This does not mean it can program EVERY fob to EVERY vehicle..... it depends 100% on the vehicle itself. If 2018 RAM trucks allow scan tools to program FOBs to the vehicle, then yes this tool SHOULD be able to. I have to be careful answer key and key FOB related questions because I rarely do that type of work and I am absolutely NO expert in that field. If you want a 100% certain answer, your best bet is to look at the available functions list on the OTOFIX website for this tool, or send OTOFIX an email. Thanks for the question.

Just to double check, this D1 doesn't program keys like the similarly priced D7? Are there any other functions like that not in this one but are in the D7? I ask because I'm trying to figure out if it's worth hanging on to the D7 as well as this one I hope you aren't bothered by my (dumb) questions.
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage Год назад
The D7 doesn't really "program keys"...... meaning it doesn't actually install data INTO a key. It allows the vehicle itself to be put into programming mode so the computer in the vehicle will accept a new key. Actually "programming a key" typically requires a different device along with additional hardware. The Autel software in the D1 will do the exact same thing as the D7. There really isn't anything that the XTOOl will do that the Autel will not do. You really shouldn't be comparing the D1Lite to the D7 as if the D7 is some sort of benchmark in scan tools. In fact, it should probably be the other way around. The Autel software is far superior in my opinion. Autel has been in the scan tool business much MUCH longer than XTOOL. The Autel software is far more refined and perfected. With all that said.... sure, you could probably find SOMETHING that the xtool will do that the Autel wont do but I haven't ran across any of those "things" yet. However, one thing does come to mind and that is "odometer correction". I haven't needed to correct mileage on a digital odometer since 1995 so it's a feature that I RARELY use. Keep in mind, it's ILLEGAL to change mileage on a vehicle. But occasionally if a gauge cluster needs to be changed, it's nice to correct the reading on the replacement odometer to make it say the CORRECT mileage. This is a major selling point for the XTOOL scan tools. They are very proud of it. But like I said, I haven't needed that function since 1995 so I honestly do not know if the Autel scan tool can do this or not.... but I've never seen it while scrolling through the Autel menus.... and it can vary depending on year/make/model, anyway. It's funny because that is probably the number one question that I get under my XTOOL videos is about it's ability to change mileage on the odometer. It makes me wonder why all these guys a asking about mileage correction. Is there that many gauge cluster problems in the world, or is there that many slimy used car salesmen in the world? lolol.

@@SlipFitGarage Great points! Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions in an understandable way. By the way, as a commercial drone pilot, I have 3 Autel drones I use for fun and profit. I really like them even though another company (DJI) is far more popular. Autel Robotics is an offshoot of Autel vehicle scanners and other devices. In the drone world we know there's no such thing as a perfect drone. I suspect it's the same way in the scan tool world. Even if the D1 didn't do key programming, it's not something I do often enough to make it an issue. I can always pay someone $25 to do it for me if needed. I do like the idea of reprogramming all the keys so any previous owner can't just jump in and drive off with it.
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage Год назад
@@sale375 Key programming ability is directly dependent on the vehicle that you're plugged into at any given time. You cant make general statement across the board about key programming ability of ANY scan tool. Just because you plugged the D7 into a specific make & model and you saw a bunch of key programming ability, that doesn't mean you will have that same key programming ability on EVERY vehicle that you plug into. And no, the Autel is NOT worthless after the first year. It will work indefinitely at it's current software level for many years after it's was last updated. You just wont have new makes and models.... It's no different with any other scant tool on the market, including XTOOL. The reason why XTOOL offers 3 years of free updates (lifetime free on the D7) is because they are relatively new to the scan tool world and they needed a "hook" to get people to buy there products and compete with established scan tool companies, like Autel. Trust me, I've used a LOT of different scan tools and XTOOL is NOT better than Autel. Not yet, anyway. Not in 2023.

It's hard to know exactly. Most of that is "marketing wank". I wouldn't let that alter my decision about which tool to get. Keep in mind, depending what vehicle you're plugged into, that will directly dictate which functions will work. I HIGHLY doubt you could ever be lucky enough for all 28 (or even 38) functions to ALL WORK on the same vehicle. Just because a SCAN TOOL is capable of performing 28 (or 38) functions does NOT mean the VEHICLE that you're plugged into is capable of performing those same 28 or 38 functions. As the other commenter posted, you can go to the otofix (or Autel) site and look at specific vehicle coverage.... or at least try to. That particular service is not spectacular on either site.

@@SlipFitGarage Thanks. Well, I cancelled the 808 and went with the Otofix due to price and the fact that the subscription is $119 vs. $150, and the two vs. one year. Glad I stumbled on your video. I'd have never known about it otherwise.

I have both the Autel 808 and the OTOFIX D1 Lite and I honestly like the OTOFIX better. They're essentially the same software, but I like the physical hardware of the OTOFIX better. The deal with updates is just the icing on the cake. I'm happy that my video helped with your decision. Thanks.

That's basically the same price on Amazon, depending on the day. The battery tester varies in price also. I paid $45 dollars for the OTOFIX battery tester. If that OTOFIX is simply an Android tablet and I suspect that is the case then they should be able to sell the dongle for say 100 to 150 dollars or less and include the application on a thumb drive or give you a download link to install it on your own tablet. The scanning is done by the app and the dongle is just an interface connector that passes the connection through by Bluetooth or USB. They could embed something in the dongle so it will only work with the Autel app if that want. You seem to have a connection why don't you ask or suggest it.
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage 8 месяцев назад
Yes, it IS an android tablet... as are most other scan tools on the market today. Some Android scan tools allow you to use it AS an Android tablet along with being a scan tool.... and other Android based scan tools lock-out other android apps besides the scan tool app. And yes, everything else you mentioned is also true AND has already been done..... to some extent anyway. The best OBD2 Bluetooth dongle / smartphone combination I have ever used is the XTOOL A30M. The App for your smartphone looks and feels exactly like the software that runs on a dedicated XTOOL scan tool. However, it DOES have bidirectional control (windows, fuel pump, fans, horn, EVAP solenoids, O2 heaters, etc, etc. It has all the typical bidirectional control features but it does NOT have some of the common re-sets and re-learn functions. It's as close to a FULL pro level scan tool but not quite. But for $200 bucks it's pretty awesome. Most other scan tool makers also have a similar product but there is always a catch..... like you need to pay extra to use certain features every 12 months, ect. And most others have very clunky software Apps. The XTOOL App & dongle is the best smartphone set-up I have ever used. Once you buy the dongle for $200 bucks, there is never another fee to fully use the tool. Oh yea, free lifetime updates, too! It's pretty good! If they would just add those last few resets and relearns it would be PERFECT! I'm sure they will someday. In fact, now that you mention it, I have a contact with XTOOL, too..... I should ask them to add those features to the A30M.... even if they charge a little more it would be worth it. I made a video about the A30M a while back. Keep in mind, I am running the App on a $1000 dollar Samsung tablet in this video and it screams right along. If someone tried running it on a $99 dollar tablet (for example) the user experience may not be so great. Any modern, above average smartphone should run the XTOOL App with no trouble. That video can be seen here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rpwvihvKbx8.html Thanks for the comment.

@@SlipFitGarage i think he wants to know if he can change the odometer
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage 6 месяцев назад
@@ogclassicjones332 Yeah, probably. That feature, as with most features, is 100% dependent on the vehicle that you're plugged into. If the vehicle will allow a scan tool to change the odometer, then this tool should do it. It's ironic that this question is probably the number one asked question in all of my scan tool videos combined. In 30+ years of working on vehicles, I haven't had the need to legitimately change the odometer on a vehicle since probably 1994. It's also ironic that this feature when used illegally to roll back mileage on a used car will greatly increase it's value. I'm not saying anyone is breaking the law. It's very possible that everyone who asked about this feature genuinely needs to adjust mileage after a gauge cluster replacement. (for example) But judging by the number of times this gets asked about, it sure seems like A LOT of people are changing gauge clusters.... more than any other type of automotive repair. Weird. 🙂

Do you think the D1 Lite is about the same as the D1 a year ago?
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage Год назад
Correct. I can't say for 100% certain ( maybe 99%)..... but previous to July 1st 2022, the Autel 808 line of scan tools did NOT all have full bidirectional control. Then July 1st rolled around and all the 808s received an update and gave them all bidirectional control. At that point a bunch of old Autel 808 marketing material ALL OVER the internet became wrong. Most of that marketing material is STILL ON internet..... even though it's wrong. So, imagine this..... before July 1st 2022, there was probably a good reason for OTOFIX to have a D1 Lite, and a standard D1...... then The major Autel software update happened on July 1st..... Now suddenly there really is not a difference between the D1 Lite, and the D1..... That is why I said what I said in the video. I have compared the two different models on-line and I can't find a difference. Of course I could be all wrong and there is a major difference between the D1 and D1 Lite..... but I can't find it.

The D1 Lite is indeed full bidirectional. @SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage Месяц назад
What exactly are you looking for a scan tool to "do" on your vehicle? What is this tool NOT doing that you think it should be doing? This scan tool does show airbag fault codes. The airbag system in most vehicles operates a bit differently than most other vehicle systems. In my experience, the airbag system does a system check with every ignition key cycle. If there is a fault it turns the airbag light on during every key cycle. Unlike the check engine light that once it has been set, it will stay on regardless if the fault is present every time the key is turned on.... until someone with a scan tool turns it off. And because the airbag system does a system check at every key cycle, once a fault has been physically repaired (replaced sensor, fixed broken wire, etc) then when the key is turned on the next time, the system check will see that it has been fix and the light will not turn on. So, if you're looking to turn off an airbag light, the only way to do so, is to fix the actual fault that is causing the light in the first place. Thanks for the comment.

@SlipFitGarage Месяц назад
@@user-vk6xg9me1p If you replaced all the airbags and they are still showing as deployed, usually that means you need a new airbag control module. I am NOT an airbag expert. That is body shop work, and I'm not in the body shop business..... but in my experience, airbags that have been deployed because of an accident require a new module. It knows there has been an accident and it is NOT resetable via a basic scan tool. Of course this can vary depending upon which make/model of vehicle we're talking about but simply replacing airbags is only part of the process after an crash. I suspect you need a new air bag module.... this is NOT the fault of the D1 Lite. You could return the D1 Lite back to Amazon and then buy the most expensive scan tool on their entire website and I suspect you still wouldn't be able to reset the airbag module. If resetting the airbag module after a crash is not programmed into the vehicle's software from the factory, then NO scan tool on earth will be able to reset that module. You can't command something that doesn't exist.... Also, if this OTOFIX D1 Lite is causing weird lights to flash then either there is something still wrong with your vehicle, or you have a defective scan tool. (which is very possible) But I can assure you with 100% certainty that this is not how the D1 Lite "normally" works. If this WAS normal, we would have thousands of people complaining about it and so far, you're the only one who has mentioned this problem under any of my OTOFIX videos. This tool works perfectly on my 1998 C5 Corvette. I understand you are frustrated, I would be too.... But you can simply send your defective product back to Amazon for an exchange or a refund. (if that is where you bought it) Sorry for your trouble
