The reason I went with the Honeywell Evohome is its ability to function on it's own.. It doesn't need cloud services to do 95% of the stuff it can do, and when the day comes that honeywell pulls the plug out of their evohome cloud services your system will continue to function just fine for years.. The moment Tadoo pulls the plug your system becomes a regular thermostat that can't even follow a schedule anymore.. That is probably why the honeywell is much more expensive, the base station does most of the work it does not need cloud services to make calculations and do stuff.. Tadoo will only be a great system if you integrate it into a home assistant with it's own RF functionality to control the knobs directly which is currently not really possible for the Evohome without using the cloud API (which in Honeywell defense works just fine) But I dont like relying on cloud services the day I can control the HR92 valves directly from Domoticz or HA I'll be switching too it and dump the base station..

Totally agree, and we must condier that cloud services will soon be or already are with montly fee.

Brilliant information as always. But can you answer me this... Does the Tado system still operate its smart functionality if your router / broadband go down? I know that the Honeywell HR92 TRV's do operate using radio frequencies, and will still work even if your internet goes down.

Very helpful. Could I control two properties with Tado app? I need to control mine and my mum's.

Another question. What happens when the internet crashes like ours with Vodafone does about once a week or so?

I got the Tado room thermostat starter kit that controls the boiler and 4 TRVs 3 weeks ago. Now when I work from home I can have the small home office bedroom warm without heating the lounge, and as I'm not supplementing with my oil filled radiator saving electric too. I won't know for sure until a full year has passed but the feeling at the moment is it will pay for itself in 2 years. A colleague has had Tado for 4 years and said the batteries last 18 months to 2 years. That Honeywell adjustable display looks like a proper overcomplication of a design!!

question: I work abroad 8 weeks away, 4 weeks at home, this means I'm often away in the winter, is there a system I can use to remotely switch on my heating while I'm away if we have cold snap?
@pete7316

I agree about the cloud comment, I don't want my schedule held in the cloud. I want a stand alone system independent of any broadband failure. I had the Hive system and this had the same problem and it just became an ornament on the table when the boardband failed, just as the Tado would. This is why I 'm replacing it with the Honeywell system which holds all configuration and schedule data locally in memory. I also note that EvoHome supports geofencing as of June 2022.

Does Tado have something to control hot water tank? Or is there a smart thermostat product just to control the hot water?
@Kiran_UK
@Kiran_UK Год назад
I have the Evohome system and firstly it does exactly what it's supposed to do, can't fault that. What I do think is ridiculous is that a company as prestigious in the world of controls can't make something as simple as geo fencing work, nor can it data log temperatures, when the system was firing and which smart TRV call for the heat. It's like they made it as basic as possible and have no intention of upgrading in line with its competitors as you've already paid out handsomely for the kit

great video - can you clarify one thing - should the tempreature go down in one room does this then the trigger the boiler to fire up and then turn it off again when the programmed room temperature is reached ??
@PeteMatheson
@PeteMatheson Год назад
Exactly this. If at least one room is calling for heat, the boiler will fire up and warm up just that room, without heating up the other rooms (providing they are already up to temperature)

Can the Tado TRVs trigger the boiler to come on or is that only done by the main thermostat? Does the Tado system work on it's own independent network like the Drayton Wiser?
@PeteMatheson
@PeteMatheson Год назад
Yes exactly that, it triggers the boiler to come on. You’ll need the controller plugged in or the app won’t be able to do anything though!

Late to the party on this one. How do these so called tado smart TRV's actually measure room temperature ? 20c by the rad, is entirely different to the temperature at the other side of the room. Do they have a built in offset for this ? or is it only measuring the temperature at the Rad ?
@simonbeasley989
@simonbeasley989 Год назад
In my home office room the radiator is on the small size, as it's meant to be a bedroom. The radiator is on a lot and I was finding my wall mounted digital clock with thermometer was only reading 18 when the Tado said 20, possibly because the radiator was heating the stat. There is an offset, settable in 0.1 degree increments. Adjusted this by 2 degrees and it's great. The separate wall thermostat would be nice but could get rather expensive.

no mention of the wiser system as I am comparing wiser and the Evo home the only thing I can see so far is the wiser and equally the tado is lacking a visual interface, we have an older person who lives with us so app baised system for them would involve too much pain for me dealing with it ware a clean touch display in one place to change things is better. The other thing putting me off is the wiser system uses ZigBee on the same 2.4ghz band as WiFi and dect so it's quite a busy band in our house. Also tado dose it work if the internet drops out?

Nest Sensors do allow you to control the temperature per room... UNFORTUNATELY..."The Google Nest temperature sensor is only available in the US region as they are not designed to work with the EU version of the Google Nest thermostat. They will only pair with the US version." - Google - July 2022

Installed Tado last year. No heating at all if the internet drops out. No range extenders. Often hear the boiler running at night when the heating is off. Giving up and watching this to decide what to switch to. Don’t buy tado unless you live in a small house with thin walls and perfect internet.

A few things to consider... First off, not anyone is willing to give-up his/her/its location to a Chinese company, allowing those to do whatever with the data and on top of that having to pay for the "service"... We live in an era in which people who value their private life , dismount "smart" home systems ad not the other way around. Next thing to consider is the communication of the devices in a large European home (300sqm, two floors, concrete). That won't work. It's barely possible to get a decent mesh network to cover all rooms. Next is the question if you would buy a brand, about you don't know anything, rather than one with a reputable history of reliability? Noise... Both are terrible! Why not stick to traditional (HERZ or Danfoss) passive radiator thermostats, keep your privacy to yourself and have a decent main unit, which can also be controlled from anywhere in the world? You might say that you won't have the ability to do zone adjustments... How about planing ahead of leaving and having the radiators set to what is needed? I value m privacy more than the few (very few actually) bucks able to save, if ever (subscription and so on)...

it comes down to convenience and having a smarter system. The big convenience is obviously being able to control everything remotely if necessary, which is great for when you forget to lower the heating before going out or want to come home to a warm house. App based scheduling is part of that because it's great being able to adjust things whenever and wherever. Smart rad valves build on top of that and are a great investment in a big home. Networking issues can be figured out easy enough. Now the decision is whether someone in China will actually care what your heating is doing.
@A.Dude.

@@person8203 [Now the decision is whether someone in China will actually care what your heating is doing.] Right! And for this reason I went wit Viessmann and the entire Vitoconnect (that is how they call the device which does the remote trick) logs-i to their Germany based server... Works like a charm. Also, the Vitodens 100 has AI and handles perfectly a scenario in which you don't even have to do a schedule... Super low bills! Happy new year!
