Excellent review!! I have an ames retractable. It looks and functions pretty much exactly like yours. Everything works fine regarding the retraction function. But its leaking out the connection where the supply connects to the reel. I've removed the the elbow and replaced the two O rings cleaned and reattached. It's worse. Can't find anything about fixing this on line. Any ideas?
I can't think of anything other than just buy a new one lol. So the one that I showed in this video just failed on the spring action a few weeks ago so I need to start looking for a new one myself I don't know whether to buy the same one again or not so I got about three years out of it which seems to be average on these types of things
@@jeffostroff Mine is just atr 3 years old, too. they have an improved model. Exactly the same as mine, except all of the connections where the source meets the reel are now all cast aluminium. Top rated on amazon. I loved mine . . . when i checked, all sold out on amazon, walmart, E-Bay, and Costco. not sure if $140 is a good investment for a 3-year hose.
Reading the comments it seems that what I thought would happen is happening to a lot of the reels. The retract function is going out. Think I'll go with a manual one.
@jeffostroff I think they're asking if the hose can be replaced inside the system if something happens to it, leaking, hole, etc. Some of these brands you have to replace the entire reel system.
Thanks for the review. I hate replacing hose reelers, the plastic manual ones are too cheap, the Liberty metal ones aren't bad, but they rust and function poorly after a few years (5yrs). I would like the auto retract since I use two 75 feet just in the rear garden alone, and two 50 feet in the front garden; but there is no way it is sturdy for long term use. I just went simple metal stand, with no crank. Guess I will train my non-existence canine to wind the hose.
Hi Jeff, I have had one of these for a couple of years and it worked fine until now. It won't totally retract. I was going to open it up and clean it and lube it (if required), but I'm a little hesitant on opening it up in case the spring isn't captured. Any thoughts? Thank you!
@@jeffostroff No - warranty is done. For now, I pulled it out all the way and babied it back in, then pulled it out again. Seems to be a little bit better, but a little lubrication will go a long way. I live 1 block from the ocean, so there's a little corrosion inside I'm sure. Thanks for your reply.
@@albarby4688 I'm thinking maybe the plastic expanded and got tighter or maybe the hose is getting jammed somewhere if it doesn't feed in perfectly I really doubt it would be this Spring because how often does it really get pulled in-and-out
We did this review over a year. Right now used it today, still working perfect. I might do a follow up reviews on the hose to show people how it's doing 1 year later. The hose in my front yard is 2 years old, and still working perfectly. It gets used almost every day.
Yes you can But now you are introducing more problems because the wood buried in the dirt is eventually going to rot. All you need to get is a masonry drill bit and just drill the holes and be done with it. if your house is wood siding then just a regular drill bit will be fine
I have a hose reel from vigoro where i need a aluminum sparepart. Home depot can't help me because it is a direct import. Anybody knows how to contact vigoro reel importer or manufacturer directly for parts?
About the Flo-Master 65HR8 hose : one thing you forgot to mention is its durability. They work for a while and then the retractable mechanism stops working and then you spend half an hour trying to reel the hose back. Amazon was able to replace the first one that went bad after a few months. The second hose Amazon issue a credit and a return but I had to reorder a new one at a much higher price than initially purchased. The third one I got stuck with it not been able to return it. In theory it is a good idea but the manufacturing is really very poor executed.
1:32 the water that is ejected out , i took the that hose and extended it to water my lawn. sone time i redirect that exhaust hose into my small pond 2:16 what separates men from boys is a man can think beyond the instructions given by manufacturer. if they only have you two feet , it doesn’t mean that is the limit, you EXTEND IT, put your own hose. unless you want the manufacturer to solve all your problems then expect your hose reel to cost in the range of 2,000 dollars when all you had to do was add your own exit hose for 15 bucks
Luckily ours landed in the garden, but still got tired of all that gushing water every time we reeled in the hose, and the spring mechanism on this newer hose is faster reeling in the hose
It's on amazon for $90 including shipping, so figur the cost of the house is about $70. Here it is: ✅ Flo-Master 65HR8 Retractable Hose Reel, 65 Feet, Brown: amzn.to/2SSmkg7
This one is still working perfectly, we use it almost every day. The same hose is mounted on the front of the house 2 years now no problem. Is it covered under warranty? I don't even remember what the warranty is.
Robert Beltowski this hose reel is a real piece of junk. Mine lasted 6 months before it would no longer retract. Broken rusted spring ! Under warranty, but will cost $34 for shipping and handling from flomaster. Will not spend another dollar on this unit, because it won’t last another 6 months before rusting out inside the drum. Not to mention the constant black residue on both the hose and the ground from the rusting spring inside the drum. Do not waste your money!!!!!!
@@mmario7344 Ha! Ha! Mario, you are correct my spring rusted and the spring broke into two pieces inside. The spring will start to rust and you will know that because of the black rust on the hose and floor under the reel. I have potos if any one want them. This is my second unit and I will not get another one of this type.
No, this is only mountable on the wall with that giant pin that you see near the end of the installation. But...you could build wood box or frame that would hold it in place if you wanted to. Thanks for tuning into our live stream from BJs Club tonight!
Those retractable hoses are rubbish. After a few months they get full of crud and stop working, plus the hose quality tends to be the cheapest thin stuff you can get.
CybreSmee I agree, this flomaster is a piece of junk! Mine lasted 6 months, not paying the $34 for shipping and handling for warranty replacement! Lesson learned!
So far this one is still working over a year later, and the one on the front of the house is over 2 years now. Maybe something jammed in there, or something you can fix yourself?
Thumbs down for giving a thumbs down without having all of the facts. The entire house is going to get painted pretty soon, that hose reel will get taken care of at the time because we will take this reel off the wall at that time, plug up all of the previous anchor holes, and clean everything up before it is painted.
We had a hydro powered hose and hated it. The hose would reel up OK, but it was slow, and wastes gallons of siphoned water every time you reel it in. Not very environmentally conscious.
Thats a pretty decent reel. I got this one and really love it. You should do a review on it - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iad7_r0d7uI.html
You can let it go, just make sure there no obstacles to snag the hose on. Ideally you could walk the nozzle end of the hoze and set down next to the reel, then set make the hose retract. Then back off, get out of the way, and don't trip over the speeding hose.
