Choosing the best upright vacuum was fairly easy considering the competition. We’ve tested 16 upright vacuums and while some come close, nothing quite compares to the Dyson Ball Animal 3 and the Shark Stratos Upright.
When it comes to choosing the vacuums we’d recommend, we look at a number of factors that impact usability and performance. These include

Features or accessories that improve usability
Dustbin Capacity

I believe that at this point the time has come to compare window cleaning robots, there are starting to be many around, even at reasonable prices. There are no comparisons on the internet, you would be the first!

I tested a few several years ago: moderncastle.com/hobot-298-review/ moderncastle.com/smart-home/hobot-198-review/ After testing, I just wasn't really impressed with the concept in general. These were some of the best robots at the time on the market and none of them were particularly strong at cleaning. Time permitting, I'll see if we can get some of the newer models into our testing queue.

This was a great video!! I liked what you tested, as those were all important! Especially filtration! Shocked that the Lupe was exhausting so much out! Personally, I much prefer Shark over Dyson, mostly due to the Powered Lift-Away feature. SO much more versatile than Dyson. I had a Dyson and was not impressed. I have the Stratos upright now, and it's truly the absolute best vacuum I've ever owned, and I've been buying vacuums for 40 years! Excellent video. Thank you! 👍

Lupe's sealant test was truly shocking. Makes me wonder if we have a defective part somewhere in the system. Stratos Upright is an absolute monster. Easily the best upright Shark has ever made (arguably their best vacuum period). Thank so much for your kind words! Glad to hear the video was helpful.

I have not wanted to upgrade my animal dyson to the dyson 3 because the reviews all complain that the hose is so stiff it can’t be used extended without holding the vacuum otherwise it will fall over. The most they claim is 3 feet anytime you try to stretch out to more than 5 feet it won’t stretch out. Also they won’t move on the carpet that is med level even if you open the vent. It’s more heavy and flimsy. I wanted the new one because of the head mostly but now I want you to tell us any of this true ?

That is true of the hose. It's just not super great to use. You can get more length out of it, but you still have to fairly close. The notion that it "won't move on carpet" is untrue. That was more true of the Dyson Animal 2, but has been resolved with the 3. It's not any more heavy than any high end upright and it certainly isn't flimsy.

This is only cheap vacuums available from a box store. Why not compare non-disposable vacuums as well?

Funniest thing, I guarantee we'll have a commenter before too long talking about how I only listed "the most expensive" vacuum cleaners and complain that I didn't list any vacuums in the $100 range. While there are absolutely more expensive vacuums on the market, the performance difference relative to the price just doesn't make sense, in my view. The vast majority of consumers will be exceedingly pleased with the performance created by $300-$400 upright vacuums.

@@ModernCastle he is likely talking about the quality, longevity, and serviceability of these vacuums. Since these vacuums are bagless, their HEPA filters load up very quickly with fine particulate and become clogged very quickly. Modern bagged vacuums now use HEPA bags that capture the debris and most of the fine particulate before it reaches the pre filter or the actual HEPA filter. It's cheaper to buy HEPA bags than HEPA filters. Warranty service & parts for Shark is almost non-existent, Dyson is a bit better. You should do a follow up video comparing good quality bagged units made by Sebo, Lindhaus, Riccar, Oreck, and Hoover's higher end bagged units.

@@alexanderjamieson7971 Most of these vacuums use a washable HEPA filter, so I don't really see that as an issue. While there is definitely a placed for bagged units, based on the feedback I continually receive from my viewers / readers, the vast majority of consumers don't want to deal with a bag. They all want bagless. Even in the few robot vacuums that have started using a bagged system I see a a huge volume of complaints about the bag. All that said, I do think you for the suggestion. Time permitting, I would love to buy and test more models from each of those brands.

@Modern Castle washing the filters still clogs them up with fine particulate since it is still filtering the water that passes through it. I think most people think of old vacuums with paper bags when they think they don't want to deal with bags. I went from bagless to bagged, and it is miles better. Not having to deal with the inevitable toxic dust plume when you empty the bin into your trash, not having to clean the filters constantly, not having the vacuum breakdown as quickly. Just remove the bag, seal it up, throw it away, place a new bag in the vacuum, and done. It's actually cleaner and far more convenient.

I leave bagged vs bagless up to personal preference, I meant how shark literally doesn’t sell replacement parts for most things
