So I have been trying this method daily since watching this video and had to come back to comment. I will say that watching the video I was skeptical, only because it doesn't look like you are applying enough balm. But I was wrong, don't tell my wife, and this method works very well. It is now part of my daily routine. Thanks for sharing.
I know I’m a tad late to your videos, I’m just getting into this whole hobby honestly, but you have already taught me so much. I go to do my daily beard routine and listen to your videos while I do what I do. Absolutely love your videos! Thank you
That is admirable how you mention your wedding ring in several of your videos, considering we live in a time where most men (and women's) integrity is questionable at best. I too tip my hat to you, sir lol.
Awesome Dan! I always end with that technique, though I do apply the balm to the rest of my beard prior to that. Going to try strictly applying to the outside now. Thank you sir!
Dan, what a revelation fella. I actually do this in part but, I also run the balm through like other 99% as you say. Will definitely try this method.......and Dan, I have a name for this method........'The Dan c stroke'
Hey Dan I noticed my hair in my beard is poking out even when I brush it or comb it does this mean I need a beard balm? I do not use one at the moment. Didn't buy one because I thought my beard hair was too short
@@DanCBearded I was planning for keratin treatment or beard streightening cream could you elaborate why we should not do that and thanks for replying dan it means a lot to me kindly help. M on my 5 th month of beard growing stage and my goal is to keep full beard square shape. Thanks
Josh O: I agree with the comment 100%. Let me say that I think you have to start with a great beard-then grooming it the right way will yield the terrific results that Dan gets. My beard is curly, and shoots out in all directions, so that when I follow Dan’s instructions, I get a very nicely hydrated, oiled and balmed beard with curly hair that shoots out in all directions. Sigh. You’ve got to start with the right kind of beard, and I’ve pretty well accepted that in my case, what you see is what you get
Sir I feel bad for spamming questions knowing you make an effort to reply to most of your viewers, but given that you're a teacher we can trust, here goes nothing: Is using beard balm everyday problematic if you don't wash your beard with a beard wash everyday? In the sense that it will prevent other products from being absorbed due to buildup? Is a wash with just water good enough to prevent any problems? I assume that when people mention not washing your beard everyday mean not washing your beard with beard wash everyday, where washing with just water is okay?
I do recommend washing your beard after every beard balm day. Rinsing with water doesn’t do enough I do actually recommend washing daily. Just need the right wash!
I have a beard because I don't like the fuss of shaving. Now this primping and preening? Just kidding (sort of). Daughter got me some oil and balm so I thought I'd watch a video on why. (My Wife doesn't like beards, never has)
New sub! Great content. I'll definitely be using this technique from now on. My beard isn't as long as yours (I'm only 17) but this is certainly going to help me maintain mine better
No thanks. Balm is one thing. But using balm, oil, conditioners, washes... That's too much work. I'm not trying to spend more time getting ready than a woman.
This is probably the best place to ask... how important is it to my beats health? I always buy oil and balm together, but I'm starting to not like the feeling of the balm at the middle of the work day. I've been toying the idea of oil only, especially with jelly.
I’ve been waiting for this video. I had a good idea of your method but have had mixed success styling my beard this way. Maybe it has more to do with length, or the grey/white hair that I have, but it seems my beard has a mind of its own. Thanks for the video and all of your great tips! 👍🏻
Dan the man great video this was one of the best informative videos ever !! I know early on I put in like oil but I remember you tell me how to did it a while back and I started to do it that way you showing and it was amazing and tbh , I didn’t do it as often as I like . Those 5am mornings sometimes make it hard but I need to do it this way more often !! Thanks my brotha
I'm going to try this technique out. I'm pretty knew to the game and I've been following your tips since my begining. Lots of people at my job have beards but I've noticed that lately I'm the one who's been getting the compliments. People are now asking me about "my" beard routine . Even guys who've had beards longer than me. I don't take credit for anything. I'm sure to give them the You Tube link to the master Dan C Bearded. Thanks Dan.
Call it the "Dan C Beard Helmet Technique" with the balm being applied like a helmet to the outer edges of the beard. I actually do my beard the same way, but minus the oil. I like to only have to apply one product at a time, I am a night shower person so I apply my oil at night, then morning I wash up and this dampens the beard then I apply the beard balm the same as you concentrating mostly on the corners as I too have a thick bushy curly beard. Yup last all day for me as well, and this means the balm, or some times I will just use oil in the am on a light day, better be able to cut the mustard all day or it's out! Have a suggestion for a new try , "Huckstle" a new start up from Ohio they have a product called multi- balm for use on your beard, skin, hair, even your wife could use. High quality ingredients some unique scents, I'm using a OUD/ Teak wood wow! I like the product, I have not tried the oil at this point. No affiliation, just one brother to another recommending a nice product. Oh ya the price seems a bit high but you receive almost 4 oz in a quality glass jar. I will give the bit of oil to the skin a try thanks again for quality informative videos, carry on!
I like this method... when I go throughout it loos to greasy. The whole point of me ever doing Balm is like you said, "to LOCK in my style for the day". Thanks my friend!
Absolutely! Here are some firm ones. Luxurious Bastard= tinyurl.com/3cnc5mnh * COMMANDBASTARD = 10% off Johnnie Ray= tinyurl.com/yhyx782m * DANC10 = 10% off
I have a short beard. I've read that in this case I don't need oil just the balm. Using all natural products with same ingredients as found in premium oils. As it's a short beard is this ok as I'm teaching my skin as well as the hair?
I do not suggest that, no. Oil first always, the other products are options. This video should explain it pretty well: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tRzvsSYVbOM.html
I personally go in first with oil and then apply butter throughout the beard. No balm. My beard is at the 2.5 month stage right now, I think once I get another month or two on it I’ll start using balm. Don’t really need as much hold right now!
Dan C Bearded lmaoooooo bro I’ve been so down lately (it’s why I haven’t been commenting at all, sorry) but that just legit made me spit my drink out hahahahaha I say that a lot but that actually made me spit my drink out for real lmao Ten points and a high five to you for that one lol
@@DanCBearded I'm almost 10 months deep into my yeard. I've been thinking of having a full trim done on the anniversary, to make it look professional AND long, I may tack another yeard after to give me nice length, or, if nothing else, only touch up my beard every other haircut which are about 6 weeks, or more, between each other.
Dan - another great video While I apply beard balm throughout my beard, I start and finish on the outside as you do, and I feel like I've gotten pretty decent results Keep up the great content!
Would like to see more of these how to vids. Great vid Dan. Teaching and Preaching!!! Are you using balm everyday now? Thanks buddy keep up the great work!!
I just started growing a beard at the end of October, it seems to be poking out during the day. I would still consider it short, should I be using balm?
I usually apply my balm like I do the oil but I will definitely give this application a try, especially since I’m at the 5 month mark now and need to focus on styling too
Have been using the honest amish oils and balm it seems like the balm really softens my beard nicely . I am new to beard products and find your videos helpful thanks for all the info 👍
Another awesome video, Dan. Have you made any videos regarding Woody's beard balm? I'm curious if you like it. I've had a beard for a long time, but your tips are a game changer. Ill try this one out. Wishing you continued success.
I find that my beard is at a really awkward stage. It's about 4 inches, but the sides are not growing as quickly as the front, and it's a gray beard (more salt than pepper). The side hairs want to stick out on the one side of my beard and applying just to the outside of the beard doesn't seem to hold them in place yet. I find that I still need to apply the balm to the underneath hairs on the sides to aid in the styling and to help me resist the urge to cut away the fly-aways. Once they are long enough, I'll switch to the outside coat of Balm. Thanks for your most excellent coaching on all things beard.
Coming from a background of using strictly oil & butter everyday getting a good hold on my beard I have decided to try balm after watching your videos. My question to you is if I get an oil/balm together in the same scent & use that during the day are you mixing a different scent into the game for your nighttime routine with the butter? Some companies do not carry a matching oil/balm/butter scent.
@@DanCBearded sounds good. Currently I am using live bearded the executive scent. I have found that the oil and butter combination work really well together to hold my beard. My first balm I've used is the beard octane but I did just order the Nicholas beard works oud oil/balm. I have the unscented beard butter from live bearded I guess I will use at night to rehydrate. I have noticed with the beard octane it is a little thinner but a great hold
@@DanCBearded I've seen a lot of your videos and I love watching them. Actually my wife enjoys watching them because your wife is involved as well she likes to hear her side of the scent. what would be a good nighttime butter you would recommend?
@@aaronbrowne1114 I would check out belle isle from Detroit grooming. Or citrafella or downshift from beard octane. I have discount codes for both if you go with them
It didn't work for me. It looks like it will work for fuller longer beards. I've been trying this method for the last 2 days and my beard tends to curl up more than usual. Maybe in another year when my beard is longer I'll try it again.
I have just picked up my first beard balm. First time to try it and I loved it today! All whits beard and it is 8”s now. I will be using I more now that I tried it! Thanks Dan!
Hey Dan, do you think you have much success with the balm on the top only method because your beard is so long and thick? Do you think for someone with a moderately long beard won’t see the same success? Thanks brother!
If I'm working a very physical job, then do you think working the balm throughout the whole beard instead of just the outside would be a good idea to help protect against dust and sweat? Or is just covering the outside still good enough? My thinking was oil and balm in the morning for better protection throughout the day from sweat and dust, then wash when i get home and use my oils and butters in the evening.
Sound like you send two hours in the bathroom. Your family must get up at 3 am to get ready for the day before you can lock yourself and the beard in the restroom.
No no no. I am a gentleman… I get up before them, and 3am isn’t too bad. And I wish the bathroom door locked properly, man they just barge in! Tough to look this pretty.
Your video has helped me out alot thanks man. I've been trying g this method and it works out a lot better for me. I wait at least 10 mins or so after I putt my oil in the the balm
I did so this method in my morning routine video so a lot of people subconsciously made the switch after watching that video lol but I thought it deserved its own dedicated video. Glad we have the same method 👊
Wow!!! Ive been using twice as much as you and running it through, and too be honest never liked the way it felt and have more oil only days then not! Cannot wait till tomorrow to apply in this new technique !!! Again info we crave and are thrilled to receive!!
Solid! I don't believe my application is much different: A more measured amount of product -- Little fingernail or Index fingernail, or Thumbnail (unit of measure is Thumbnail. For my hands, Index fingernail is about half a Thumbnail and Little Fingernail is about a quarter Thumbnail) -- and after applying just as you do, I slowly pass a comb through. Once. You mentioned oil: Sometimes I put it on just my fingers, sometimes my palm. But in either event I only rub my hands together once lightly in a semi-circle to get the oil distributed without giving it much chance to be absorbed by my hands. It is beard oil after all; I want it there, not in my hands.
Thank you Dan C really worked well for me, now that my beard is longer and thicker now days ,I'm 21 so it grows more and more everyday , but I always watch you an really appreciate the great advice you give.I lean more everyday from you .Thank you
Yes sir... always oil under and balm to style and hold on the surface. I do reapply but it may be due to the coarseness of my grey/white that just starts to kind of push out the density over the course of the day. I’ve started actually combining just a little balm and oil together for a work through application when I reapply late afternoon and early evening. On busy evenings due to family and life I can even skip a nighttime routine and the beard stays fresh overnight from that application
Love it brother!!!almost the exact way I do it except sometimes I just use a butter for hold instead of balm put apply it the same way just outside...because I do wash and butter at nighttime...because of the trusted teacher's advice....changed my beard game brotha!!!! I am forever grateful to you 🤘🧔🤘....
I thought beard balm was useful for not only styling and moisturizing your beard, but also for sealing the oil into your skin by adding a protective layer. I’m surprised you don’t get it into your skin. Glad this method works for you though, still struggling with dry skin lol.
Have you ever done a review on the beard Club products? I've been doing my beard balm like I'm inside all over looking forward to trying in the morning the new method I'm sure it'll be great
