Thanks Dan I’ve been growing my beard for awhile now and I’ve always struggled with the do and don’ts and what works best for me and this brought a lot of insight to the conditioning aspect. I can’t wait to start implementing what I’ve learned from your very informative post. Thank you for what you do for me and others keep up the amazing work you do.
Love the breakdown on how conditioner really works. I was one that was definitely using too much in the beginning, once I dialed it back it made a HUGE difference. Thanks again for teaching us the science behind it. Happy teacher’s appreciation week! Lol
I honestly didn't want 2 use conditioner. But as my beard got thicker & longer, it's a must 4 my coarse, coily beard. I condition after every wash & follow up wit a leave in conditioner.
I know myself, like a lot of people, used way too much beard conditioner when I first started. I dialed it way back and it now works fantastic! No longer do I have styling issues and now way less breakage. My routine is that I wash every other day. With a hot water only rinse day in between, just like washing but with no wash, just water. I only use in shower beard conditioner every other beard wash day. So its about 3 days a week I use beard conditioner. My beard is loving this routine I’ve been doing for almost a year now. It truly has made a huge difference in my beard health and styling 💯 Another fantastic video Dan! Great job man and thank you! 👊🤘
The journey continues Dan as I work on my AM routine. This video helped me put the conditioning portion together. Your content is always evolving and I feel on top of my game thanks to you. Cheers.
I use conditioner every other day. Most I’ve tried get instant breakout on neck. Found a light conditioner thanks to Dan, CJ’s sweetwater is life! I don’t leave in very long or beard gets too frizzy to style. Def couldn’t live without it! Fantastic vid Dan!!!
For many black men, yes absolutely! Did you catch this video going over the differences: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zZahuKua8gk.html
Since I saw your video on washing everyday I started myself but I didn't know to only condition every other day I was washing and conditioning everyday but now that I just learned this I will be sure to dile it back some. My beard goals are to have the best and healthiest beard I can grow thank you DAN for this information 💯💯⚡⚡👊👊👍👍
Great Video Dan- I follow your advice to a T . The first time you said don’t allow the conditioner to touch the skin I always think of it and scared too lol I only use conditioner twice a week now. Wash daily with light exfoliating- finish rinse with cold water - Conditioner 2 times a week- Dry beard to 90% dry add Beard oil- let sit for five minutes- blow dry- then finish with heat brush- my full routine takes about 20 minutes and out the door in 30 - Ty Appreciate all you do . See you Monday night.
Excellent video Dan and very educational as always. I use Beard conditioner in my beard 1-2 times a week. My favorite beard conditioner is Au Natural by Defined Beard Company.
The WnH conditioner now Copper Johns absolutely rules !!! The Artius Man is fairly good too. The others I have tried so far I have not been much of a fan. I use a conditioner about 3 times a week now.
I always felt like when i washed a needed a conditioner till i started using Vahalla beard and body wash I have used quite a few washes but this one works the best for me Its a daily wash and it conditions pretty good by itself👊
In your research, have you seen anything that talks about conditioners interfering with oils or butters? I usually only use conditioner a couple times per week. For a long time, I was using Alba shampoo & conditioner, they're not beard-specific but they're pretty good! Now I'm working my way through trying some options from brands that I connect with and trying to see which ones I like more than others.
Super helpful and informative. Thanks Dan! Just started growing out my first tweard in January. I'm currently at about 4.5-5 inches in length. I've never used beard conditioner before, but I think its a great time for me to start introducing it into my routine! I also have a red (quickly turning more amd more white ;) color beard and I believe one of your past videos talked about white/grey beards and that they can really benifit from conditioner. 🙂
Apart from daily beard oil, occasional use of tonic and some wash every now and then, I don't use any other product. Perhaps I'll try conditioner. I heard curly hair in general actually needs extra moisture. Maybe it'll help. Thanks again Dan. Stay bearded!
This explains why it is so easy to comb my beard in the shower with conditioner and why it was such s frustrating nightmare the time I tried to do the same with shampoo.
@@DanCBearded sometimes we all need reminders, especially when we as beard wearers become complacent from time to time due to life commitments. Keep em coming!!!!
Great topic Dan! I do have a question. You mentioned quickly the length of the beard. Would you recommend that people with shorter beards or that are just starting the beard journey use conditioner less often than longer beards? Thanks!
Thank you Dan. More great technical info plus pros and cons that make us more informed consumers. I did not know any of the scientific/technical reasons to use or not use conditioner. All the best to you and the fam and see you tonight.
I wash every day , but only use conditioner 3 times out the week. Only use a couple companies conditioner tho. I was never in the hype of co washing idk how people was co washing every day.
I never cowashed every day or even ever more and 2-3 times a week, but I am glad that I do not anymore at all. Video on the topic for anyone that has not watched yet: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rogy6jCkFog.html
Do you have a video on a standard full "day" of beard management? like i'm trying to figure out my routine and this is what I was thinking so far: 1) Wash, damp dry 2) spray in leave in hair dryer conditioner 3) Blow Dry 4) add beard oil 5) after 5min add in beard balm I was thinking of at night lightly washing out the beard balm, and then add beard conditioner for the night... Does this sound bad?
So whats different between "leave in conditioner" and "beard conditioner" LOL Some reason I thought leave-in was the one we used but looks like we have 2 conditioners to use?
Totally different ingredients and reasons. Rinse out targets certain weakness in the hair and then rinses the rest off. Leave-in penetrates and absorbs
I shower every other day. I use the BABC wash and conditioner once a week, and the other times I use I guess what might be technically a co-wash? It's Mountaineer Brand beard wash that is really mainly oils as its ingredients.
I wash every night because of my job, but I do wash and conditioner every other day, I use a leave in conditioner as well, I seen a video from @livebearded that said leave in conditioner is better then using butter, so I rinse every out in the morning I apply my oil and butter and off to work I go and do a repeat.
I’ve actually been going completely without any beard “wash/shampoo” or beard “conditioner” for about a month now. And I think it’s been fine. The reason I’ve been doing this is that I’ve always found every beard wash I’ve ever tried (many recommend by the Trusted Teacher) to be way too stripping for my beard. I realized that water alone is stripping in itself. I’ve also stopped using beard butters. I do use beard balm on the outside of my beard for styling and to “wash” that out I will comb through some beard oil throughout the beard before taking a shower and rinsing it all out. Basically beard oil IS my “conditioner”. I’ve been doing this for a while now (a little more than a month I think) and so far liking the results. I have a medium-to-long beard (about half as long as Dan’s in this video).
So your saying you wash out the wax from beard balm with a beard OIL.?? Lol please anyone reading this DO NOT follow this routine. Not washing your beard over a month and using only balm and then combing oil through it is not in any way getting your beard clean… the balm with its wax is just coating it and then just using water every day is not getting the balm out which is fine for a day or two or three but a month of no cleaning suds from beard wash, and then the waxy coat from balm and then combing oil through is not a good idea. Sorry to say man but it’s a terrible idea lol.
I use conditioner after a lazy day off where I don't do nothing with my beard. Easier to detangle. I did enjoy the unscented from Fable and Artius man. I usually pass way more conditioner than shampoo so I should buy two bottles for one shampoo. I rather use unscented to reduce my risks of allergies. 🌹
Great video Dan! I knew basically how conditioner worked, and what it did, but this is really cool to know the exact thing that it is actually doing. I also didn't realize I was over conditioning. I used conditioner every day, because I washed my beard every day, due to work and getting dirty. In my mind if I have to wash that often, I should also be conditioning more as well. Good to know I should dial it back some more.
Dan. I’m new to growing my beard and I just bought your suggested bearded Mack soap bar to strip my beard once a week or so. My question is do you use conditioner right after or maybe the next day? Thanks!
Awesome video Dan!! I love the science behind anything 🤓👍I learned about the hair damage having negative charges and the conditioner having a positive charge and filling in the imperfection gaps 👍 very cool! I took a little break from conditioner, but the beard started feeling dry and brittle, so I'm working it back into the rotation a couple times a week. I use Beard Octane conditioner, and it works great, but it very thick. Thanks Dan, I love learning! 👍🍻
I currently only have one conditioner. It’s from live bearded. I just got it not to long ago. And I bought it just to help with detangle. Where would you say it’s rank is?(heavy, medium, or light)
Great video as always Dan! I personally condition twice a week. Once after doing a stripping wash and once midway through the week. My conditioner of choice is Doctor Nicks. I absolutely love how it works in beard and have no issues styling or combing through. Now what I did learn from this video is that I have been neglecting the combing it through and feel that would improve the already great experience I'm having with conditioner and elevate it up to an amazing experience.
No coincidence this comes up. Wondering is the combination of both “conditioning shampoo”in some of the companies products the same ? I don’t use leave-in(anymore)conditioner. Thanks for the video.
I’m using grave before shave beard wash and loving it, I was going to get there rinse out beard conditioner off of amazon but they don’t have the smaller bottles on amazon canada , is it ok to use a different brand of rinse out beard conditioner then my beard wash? I’m doing some research because I have been lately noticing my beard is more itchy than normal and I am using a good beard oil (honest Amish,I apply my beard oil to a damp beard not dry, I apply my beard oil twice a day and I have been off and on been using grave before shaves beard butter at night ). If conditioner fixes my problem I might buy the large grave before shave conditioner bottle off Amazon, but I need to try a smaller bottle of a company’s conditioner to test if beard conditioner is the right product to start using before I get a big bottle. I would buy the conditioner off grave before shaves website, but don’t currently have a credit card, and don’t want to use my debit card for online purchases. I normally buy an Amazon gift card at the store and fill up my amazon account that way.
Wash everyday with Grandpa's Pine Tar soap then condition with Detroit Grooming Black conditioner. Started washing everyday after seeing your previous video about that. It was good advice! Oh, and I did learn something. I usually do from your videos!
Thanks! I will say that pine tar soap is really stripping and not the type of wash I recommend for daily use. I also not recommend following with conditioner every day. Here is an example of my routine: - 3 days a week = gentle wash followed by conditioner - 3 days a week = gentle wash with no conditioner - 1 day = stripping wash followed by conditioner
Pine Tar soap does strip, but it's kinda why I like it. It removes all the built up old oil and whatever from the day before and starts me out fresh. Followed with the Detroit conditioner and HA oil has been a good routine for me. I would be willing to try a different wash, but the reason I like Grandpa's is lack of additional chemicals found in many beard washes.
The problem with using a stripping wash more than once a week with that high of a pH level, is that it will start to strip the fibers of the beard. Take a look at: Beard wash by Doctor Nicks= www.doctornicks.com/danc * DANC = 15% off Or LCW by Beard Octane= beardoctane.com/DANC * DANC10 = 10%
@Dan C Bearded ok thanks Dan. I used to wash with Grandpa's about twice a week, which was what George Bruno suggested. Was doing that for 6 years until seeing your video about daily washing and started doing that. I really havent seen any bad effects from using it, but what yiu say makes sense. Do you like Detroit Grooming wash? I could order some next time I get the conditioner.
Impossible to give any kind of exact there. Here are common examples: Proteins Hydrolyzed proteins Amino acids Silicones (dimethicone and derivatives) Esters (glyceryl stearate, isopropyl palmitate) Fatty acids (coconut fatty acid, stearic acid, lauric acid)
Hey Dan! I really love the little beard wash hockey pucks you recommend like bearded Mack. Are there any hockey puck style conditioner bars you’ve tried and like? Good stuff as always!
What happens when you try to put butter in after you get out of the shower and using conditioner? Is the conditioner going to prevent the butter from doing its job since the hair still has a coating of conditioner on it?
So I came away learning about the negative and positive charge affects, really cool. Now that my beard wraps my face does that change the amount used and frequency? Plus what is the shelf life of conditioner? Also are there still benefits for combing conditioner through a short beard? Awesome video Dan.
Conditioner is for the hair, so the less hair the less conditioner. Frequency is preference. For a short beard there is less benefit for conditioner and/or combing with conditioner.
how long does conditioner last like i have some from 2 years ago since i have a small beard i do not use a lot in beard..Great vid Danc Stay Bearded and Stay Positive
Dan, would you recommend I use beard balm and beard conditioner on the same day? Say I am taking a shower in the morning, use conditioner, get out of the shower, then apply beard balm when I am grooming it after the shower. Is that okay to do?
@Dan C Bearded okay thanks! That was a concern I had because I thought the combination of the oil, the balm, and the conditioner would make my beard too greasey.
@Dan C Bearded well, how much would you consider too much for people with short beards, and what is your recommended amount for men with shorter beards?
Should ypu avoid using a beard scrubber with conditioner? Also would it help with the hot summer. My mustache has been suffering with this heat. Like really dry tacky. Then beard is pretty tchy. But after I shower have been using really cold water at the end. That helps and then beard octane latherwisng wash and combing it in the shower.
@@DanCBearded sounds great. I will be looking forward to your review. It has beeswax pretty high up. Just got the Bearded Mack grooming conditioner. I will be doing a stripping wash followed by that today. Thanks for all the info! I have learned so much from your videos!
Beard oil, beard wash, and beard balm are likely going to be your best bet. Give this company a look: Doctor Nicks= www.doctornicks.com/danc * DANC = 15% off
I think I have a good routine, oil and butter at night, oil and balm in the the morning applying always on a damp beard, I wash 2-3 times a week but i still loose a lot of hair when combing. I use a Chicago comb model 8 and try my best to be as gentle as possible when using it, still I’m loosing maybe 40ish hairs a day. I’m trying to drink more water and I use a good quality brand (Beard manners. From the UK please do a review!) but they don’t do a conditioner, so maybe a conditioner is what I need to help limit the hair loss, what do you think? Love your videos Dan been subscribed a long time now. Love to the family
I bought the Beard Octane Downshift lather conditioning wash. I used a little too much but it made my beard super soft an smelt great. It didn't feel it was going to break or have a hurt feel? If that make sense. I also am going to try Blue Collar an see how that does.
Hey Dan, I was thinking the conditioner needed to be massage into the skin. You said you would talk about it later but I didn't hear it and I listened twice. So what do you do? Put it on your hand and rub your hands together and put it on the hair mixing in into the hair without spreading it on skin?
Someone gave me a bottle of Fa**e co-wash, ive seen your videos on co-washing. Can I just use it as a 5min shower conditioner after a wash once in a while? Or is it unnecessary?
Hey I haven’t used Beardbrand conditioner but I have two bottles of beardbrand beard wash and I have used it don’t know what kind of wash it is like a stripping wash but I have shave, on April 16, 2023 and haven’t shaved since just letting it grow do you recommend beard rand conditioner
