I explain the advantages of braid and demonstrate its use! I use both casting and spinning. I show how to tie the double uni knot for tying a leader to braid!
Braid gets the job done son! Love it! Great vid from a great channel from the greatest fisherman of all time! Never would I have ever thought I’d have a way to instantly send you comments. Love RU-vid! Please keep ‘em coming!
Roland, do not fool yourself, you are head and shoulders above a high percentage of fishermen, even tournament guys. I take everything you say as gospel, use it, and have never regretted it. I am thankful that a professional, at the pinnacle of fishing knowledge, is willing to share with everybody, what he knows. Thanks again for sharing.
Roland has ALWAYS been entertaining and teaching at the same time. First word that comes to mind is respect. Absolutely no doubt braid is a key advantage in many, many, power fishing scenarios. Excellent presentation. Thanks Roland!!!
What wonderful bass fishing education you bring to the novice angler. I've just retired from the Army after 30 years and now I'm enjoying bass fishing again like I used to when I was a kid. I've been watching you on TV back going all the way back to 70's and still you're the man. Never had much time to really get involved with bass fishing while I was in the service, thank God for RU-vid and your bass fishing tips. Really feel better and more confident in how I fish now after watching some of your shows, thanks and keep it up. We need your Bass Fishing Wisdom.
Roland! Please keep on teaching us, I'm 78 and I still get something new every time I watch your shows. I have switched to braid this past summer and I love it. I live up in IN. fishing most of the local lakes, thanks so much.
I grew up watching your outdoors program YEARS BEFORE RU-vid. Watching you on RU-vid brings back so many fond nastalgic memories and excitement about going fishing. Thanks for all you do for the sport.
Braid also works well for fishing small hooks for catfish if you get a snag you can bend the hook and save more tackle and money. Not to mention the time you save tying hooks.
One of the original GOATS! Roland is parting knowledge to everyone to help the next generation and generations to come! Thank you @RolandMartinOutdoors
I would like to say thank you for all of your chips insights and commentary. You have added so much more to my fishing Arsenal than you could ever think. I appreciate you giving back all that knowledge that you have gained over the years. It helps the weekend warrior and the novel has actually become a better Angler. And now all of my fishing rods have braid on it with a leader. THANK YOU!!!
I am 70 years old and I really enjoy watching the old guy teaching :). I do most of my fishing from my pontoon boat and often out fish the huys in the expensive bass boats.
Mr. Roland I’ve been watching you for about two months and my bass just keep getting bigger. I appreciate your approach, willingness to share, and your unique character. I’m going fishing in Mosquito Lagoon in FL next week. Hoping to get some big snook, trout, and reds.
Thanks for the tips! When doing the double uni-knot, I like to double over the braided line because sometimes the braid slips. Last I thought you were crazy about using the black marker to disguise the line, I will be the first to say, my hook up ratio has gone up. Thanks again and keep these videos coming.
Roland has always been the best. I have a lifetime of fishing memories and Roland has been a big part of them. Keep going as long as you enjoy it, we enjoy it also.
I just commented about this topic and here a week later you put a video up. I really appreciate the fact that you take the time out of your day to read what your fans have to say. Thanks for the advice
Thanks for great info.Mr. Martin. I’ve been using braid for over 25 years and agree with you on all. I always used Green Marks a Lot with split tip to camo line end thinking it would blend with vegetation (and fished a lot at night). I will start using black, and also been using Leaders for 1st time.
Thanks for taking the time to give us a piece of your knowledge. I appreciate it and it has been helping me catch more Bass. I have been using straight braid with a black marker this spring and landing far more fish. Thanks Son!!!
I'm 66 years old and I can remember my Dad using I think was a black cord for fishing, maybe they still make it. Good points on the rods with nice size guides.
Braid is the way to go.if I've got a little bit more clear water conditions I'll still throw bread but I'm usually tying a fluorocarbon leader on. Generally about 18-24". There are a few situations where I'll tie a mono leader on but for the most part the fluorocarbon leader. Most TOP water I'm throwing straight braid. I use a Alberto knot or a fg knot. Love you Roland!!! LEGEND!!
Another great very informative video and your fishing knowledge is next to none as you have been there an done it and got the trophies to prove it .... can't thank you enough for all you show us
And thanks to you Mr.Martin i use that knot all the time thank you again love matching your videos hope one day i can shake your hand have learned so much from you
I just started watching your videos. Man I enjoy watching your stuff. You are so down to earth and love to fish even when it’s a pond you get just as fired up! Thank you for all the helpful insight. Seriously you are the best!
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge Roland. I used 30# braid / 8lb diameter as my main line with about a 3 foot 8# fluorocarbon leader on my worming and top water rods tied with a blood knot. As of now, I will be using a double uni knot. Why? Because Roland Martin says so. All the tips that you have shared over the years, through your television show and now RU-vid have helped me in becoming a more successful bass fisherman. I really appreciate your time and effort in posting these videos. Keep it up!
As always great stuff. I love braid. I started with braid in my spinning reels because it has no line memory. Can set up a feel for awhile a not have to worry about tangled coils. Started using it on baitcasters. Learned a few things. Lower test will "pinch" into itself if you load it up. 30lb is as light as I go. So many variations of braid out there. If you don't like the first braid you use don't condemn using it. Try a different brand. I like power pro. But it takes a day of fishing to quite being noisy thru the guides but it doesn't wind knot and backlashes come out good
Good tips, I love the braided line its lack of memory is a great benefit. I use glow vis at night, it lights up under a blacklight. I met you at a boat show in Louisville Ky years ago after that classic on the Ohio River. We were both young men then, I understand the old man part. I'm in Okeechobee City now but headed back to Kentucky next week.
Thank you so much Roland! I really enjoy your how to videos! I'm new to the local Bass Tournament circuit in my area, Northern Illinois just outside of Chicago, and your how-to videos really help! Keep them coming and thank you again for all of your wonderful content!
Glad you enjoy making these videos, cause we sure enjoy watching em! I’m getting back into fishing again, and I’ve rediscovered you and Mr. Dance. Brings back so many memories of when I was younger and fished with dad...best memories of my life. Your videos are always so informative, and are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mr. Roland
Thanks for the tip about standard guides with leader knots. I wondered why my uni knots weren’t going through my microguides when pros like yourself never seem to have an issue. Now I know the reason. Maybe an FG knot would work but I like the quicker double uni you use better. Thanks!
Thanks, braid is just way better casting on spinning reels and for power fishing casting reel set ups. too. But with braid, like any line, there are differences. I had to experiment to find the brand that works best for me. I like the black marker tip too. Cheap and does the trick! Keep them coming!!
I have just started using braid as of last fall. This video answered some questions about it. Also I am going to try the black magic marker on the 2 feet of line from the lure. My pond has a lot of water lilies on it now that spread like wildfire. So the braid is working out good! Thanks for another great video.
Mr Roland, I hear I'm getting to be an old guy too.. I don't know. Have been following you for over 50 years and have enjoyed using the tactics you've shown. I have some good successes but it is my dream to fish with you someday before we are BOTH TOO OLD. TIGHT LINES.
Roland, you got me to try fishing a frog again...just thought I'd check in and let you know about an hour ago I caught the biggest bass I've ever caught in the little lake behind my house. 5 lbs.+, not a true monster, but until now the 4 pounder my daughter caught has been the biggest. Thanks for the incentive to try a frog again!
Yep the year Spiderwire came out all those years ago... I haven't used mono since. Switched to fluorocarbon leaders. I remember using 30lb test braid in the beginning, but now every reel has 10lb braid for bass to snook. (central Florida) for the last 2-3 years I've switched to the red color power pro.
@@RolandMartinOutdoors Ever since I found out you were on youtube. my son and I have been watching the shows. He finally put down the gaming pc and really wants to fish all the time. I have no problem with that! it only took 15 years!!! However, watching you fish with casting reels is making me want to buy one again. I probably can't afford your casting reels..but still might get one before summer ends. We finally have a Bass Pro Shops locally! (Daytona Beach)
