BEST & WORST Doctor Who Christmas Specials! 

"The very first Christmas special we ever had: The Christmas Invasion" I beg your pardon, The Feast of Steven was the first one.

A Christmas Carol has to be y favourite, it takes the old story and takes it in a completely new direction that made for a heartfelt story, also it's probably the best attempt at romance the new show has ever made in my opinion.

Matt Smith captured the "old man stuck in a young man's body" brilliantly.

I'm in the minority of actually liking Tennant's last words. I think maybe it's because I didn't want him to go either.

I liked the Titanic episode but I have to stick with my favorite, the goofy romp that gave Alex Kingston her "happily ever after" - The Husbands of River Song. I think without her and the Pond family, the 11th would have had a very bland life. The whole mess of bs story arcs with Clara afterward kind of pointed out that they knew something had gone missing from the show and they couldn't reclaim that awe that came from the whole backwards reveal of the Doctor's family. The even more goofy "Dr Mysterio" episode highlighted the depth of feelings associated with River and the only photo to share a spot on the "Professor's" desk when we meet Bill is his wife. Of course now the Doctor is going through this whole pc nightmare this Christmas and I don't think even River Song could save the Doctor this time.

My favourite is Christmas Carol. It was so unique in comparison to the high energy action Christmas specials. It was all about the characters.

Time of the Doctor is my favourite Christmas special, as Matt Smith was my first and favourite doctor, and to see him leave in such a good and emotional way, just makes me smile.

A Christmas Carol is the best for me. The only Doctor Who Christmas Special that was truly about Christmas.

The Christmas Invasion and Last Christmas are my favourites, it's unfortunate that you're not a big fan of them. But then again I do like the Voyage Of The Damned. Merry Christmas Wingy.

Doctor Who was great today!

That whole belltower regeneration scene in The Time of the Doctor is actually cringeworthy, but even though I didn't like the 11th Doctor I did get emotional during the TARDIS scene. Also, interesting fact about Last Christmas - The Doctor was supposed to watch Clara die of old age at the end of the episode, but it was hastily rewritten when Jenna Coleman announced she was stayting for S9.

I watched twice upon a time and it became my favourite EVER EPISODE and bumped to first in favourite chrismas specials just beating the next doctor MERRY CHRISTMAS

The Christmas Invasion is one of my favourite while Voyage is one of my worst. Although I'll agree that Invasion only become good from that scene on the ship just before the Doctor appears. Voyage I'm not keen on because I'm not keen on disaster type movies anyway. As for Last Christmas, I quite like it and remember thinking it was one of the best Christmas stories we had had for a while as I was never a fan of the eleventh Doctor ones. As for Time, yeah the scene leading up to the regeneration is great and very emotional but I didn't find myself enjoying the rest to be honest and I don't think I've given it a second view since.

If the Sycorax return, I think they should explore the effect the Doctor had on there culture. They are very superstitious, and the Doctor casually killed their leader and (as far as they could tell) destroyed there ship. What if in a million years the Sycorax have grown to see the Doctor as a hungry God, and have adapted their culture to appease him. When the new Doctor (a woman) arrives on the Sycorax planet, they see her as a heretic pretender and capture her companions, so she must find a way to prove to the Sycorax that she is the Doctor in order to save her companions.

If they made an entire new series for when the doctor was on trenzalore instead of 2 min. of what he did. Then Clara coming back at the end of that series like nothing ever happened would have been fantastic.

Surprised that A Christmas Carol isn't on here (imo it is def one of the better specials, and my favorite)

Recently the Council of Geeks channel did a similar video, and on that occasion I commented that my top Christmas specials were Voyage of the Damned, The Return of Doctor Mysterio and The Husbands of River Song. My least favourites were (in descending order) A Christmas Carol, The Time of the Doctor and The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe. I maybe need to re-appraise the Matt Smith regeneration episode after hearing Wingy's defence of it here, though.

I have a real soft spot for "The Next Doctor" I think because it's the first Christmas special I was actually a fan for. Loved David Morrisey and Tennant's performances even if the cybermen were completely wasted as usual. The Doctor, the widow and the wardrobe and Last Christmas are definitely the worst.

Great video! Very satisfied seeing you put down last Christmas & the Christmas invasion. Though I have to disagree with time of the Doctor. Yeah it's entertaining & I really like the regeneration as it gets an emotion out of me, but the story sucks and had so much potential, plus Clara's family was so pointless.

Last Christmas is superb and in the top tier for me!

As well as twice upon a time, which I just got done watching, I also caught the doctor, the widow and the wardrobe on Christmas morning and I really am not sure what to think of it...

Love the videos but i think they would be even better and flow so much nicer without the doctor who style intro thing. Whilst its cool it takes from the flow of the video imo. But still merry Christmas and keep up the good work

Time of the Doctor is a really shit story. Also, I hate Matt Smith's Doctor. BUT, his last scene is amazing and it's the second best regeneration from the NuWho. Both Moffat and Smith did a really good job in this. And man, that bowtie falling in the ground, that's some real clever language. As you said, he made the regeneration the way it should be.

I always feel conned with the Titanic episode. Since Futurama did it in 1999.

- The Christmas Invasion: Very enjoyable. I love the whole 'threat to earth thing'. Makes it seem real. The Santas and the trees are not good though. - The Runaway Bride: As a Donna lover, I like it. I don't like the plot though. It's just too fast, and isn't fleshed out. - Voyage of the Damned: Very good. I enjoyed it. I really liked it. Agree with you on everything you said. - The Next Doctor: I like the concept, hate the pacing. Padded and not fleshed out. - The End of Time: Filth. Stupid. UHHHHHH!!!!! - The Christmas Carol: It's good. I like it. Very enjoyable. - The Doctor, the blah blah blah: Awful. Plot holes, production errors. Good design, awful writing. - The Snowmen: Meh, it's alright. - The Time of the Doctor: Everything you said in the video. I like this episode. - Last Christmas: I disagree. I love this one. Clara is actually a little bit better than you're letting on. I think her and 12 are great together.

Calling it before I watch it: Widow and Wardrobe is worst. A Christmas Carol the best?

Here's my two pence worth: Christmas Invasion: RTD stated outright that it was not a Doctor story. He wrote it for and about Rose, how she would cope with the loss of her Doctor, how she's grown as a person, how she tries to take what she's learned from the Doctor when she's alone and the world needs him and he's not there. I really like it, and the moment the Doctor wakes up (the running gag about Jackie and the tea is absolutely brilliant) and says "did you miss me?" had me shouting "yes" at the screen. Voyage of the Damned: I can take or leave this story. But the reason it was set in space and not on the actual Titanic is that it was shown that the 9th Doctor had already been on the original Titanic and had saved a family. The one with Santa: Literally forgot its title. Absolutely agree. A completely awful, lacklustre episode. The Time of the Doctor: An overblown mess of a story, ambitious and completely misses all the marks, and serves only to show Moffatt's ego in trying and out-do RTD in the emotion stakes. Clara is basically kicked about like a puppy so she gets to be in the right place at the right time. I will say this: the two regenerations work somewhat. The HUGE one that destroys a town is technically the last of his regeneration energy burning up as I go with the theory that each regeneration uses up more and more energy. The subtle flash from Smith to Capaldi is very much like the Hartnell to Troughton change, signifying the beginning of an entirely new cycle. The one with the brains: I think this was one of the worst episodes ever written and the less said about it the better. Husbands of River Song: I watched it. I watched it again. I remember little of it.

My best to worst Christmas Invasion (Helped me get over Eccleston with Tennants amazing performance. Loved the sword fight was also the second Doctor who story I ever watched so it's very nostalgic to me now) Christmas Carol (A clever retelling of a classic. Gambon and Smith are amazing on screen together. Paints a picture of Kazran's life perfectly) Twice Upon a Time (I love how their isn't an evil plan and dosen't over do things) Time of the Doctor (Very rushed, should've been a 2 parter yet still packs an emotional punch) Runaway Bride (Funny at the start really dark at the end, bit tonally inconsistent) Last Christmas (Weird. Dream Crabs??, Santa?? what the hell) The Snowmen (Least threatnening Doctor Who villian ever) Husbands of River Song ( Was annoying watching this with River not knowing who the Doctor was until the very end. It wasn't that funny. Direllium scene was nice though ) End of Time (Butcherd the 10th Doctor and made him no longer likable. I'm sorry i know it has it's fans but I cannot forgive this episode for making people hate Smith before he even started. The Next Doctor (A stupid misdirect) Return of Doctor Mysterio (The most generic superhero story ever. We waited one year with no who and this is what we got) The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe (Terrible child actors and an incredibly scmultzy ending. The only thing worth watching is the ponds at the end but you have to sit through the rest. Voyage of the Damned (I'm sorry but Kylie cannot act the amount of death in this episode depressed me too.)

Got to say, I'd swap them around in terms of my taste, but each to their own.

The Christmas invasion- an OK story that introduces to the 10th doctor Voyage of the dam- shit but not the worst thing ever Last Christmas is my 5th worst doctor who story of all time The time of the Doctor- an OK story, it's odd that this is the story that made it OK to criticize Moffats stories beyond saying he sucks at writing females.

I quite like these stories apart from time of doctor. The worst ones for me are a christmas carol & doctor,witch & wardrobe.

Just to let you know, the Doctor did know about Alien at one point. In the animated mini series, Dreamland (which is shit), he mentions it while listing a bunch of movies which people in the time period he is in (1958) haven’t seen yet. Does Doctor Who just not have a team which makes sure this kind of shit doesn’t happen, where the writer just completely forgets stuff on the show that HE WAS FUCKING RUNNING?!

[I'm not english so sorry if I'll make some mistakes] - Best: Twice Upon a Time (Yes I watched it and it's even on my top 10 list) and The Runaway Bride (Donna Rulez!) - Worst: The end of Time Part 1 (for me 2nd part was better than 1st) and Voyage of the dammed (because it's very stupid)

I actually really enjoyed last Christmas, it had a good message behind it and I loved nick frost as Santa, his dialogue with everyone was amazing especially Shona or however the fuck you spell her name, I enjoyed her character as well, yes maybe it was slightly ripping off alien and inception but I enjoyed it, I think the worst part of that episode was that fat guy and good riddance that he died he was just blatant unlikeable, everything else though was really good

I do like Matt Smith's ending scene but I am on the side that it would've been a bit better if Capaldi was in the TARDIS at the end and not Smith

Wow.... I'm usually in agreement with most of your choices, but so not on this list. Christmas Invasion and Voyage Of The Damned are both ok stories, mid pointers to me. My favourites: Last Christmas and A Christmas Carol. Stinkers: Doctor, Widow & Wardrobe, The Next Doctor Actually apart from my two faves which I love the rest are mediocre to awful, and the whole everything is covered in snow but the trees are all out in leaf thing really grinds my gears too.

The Christmas Invasion is great imo. i don’t really mind that the Doctor isn’t in it because it’s a good story. I agree with Last Christmas though. I think that was the first story I couldn’t defend, and the point where I started to dislike Doctor Who. And I was a life long fan.

I like time of the doctor as a story, its emotional and stuff, but I think the way they handled the episode was badly done as i cant get thrrough it. I have watched the ending though and I agree with you 100% Karen gillan cameo and the music from rings of akhaten etc
